Fiat Grande Punto dynamic Sport 1.4

Advantages: Looks like a nice car and is well specified
Disadvantages: could turn out to have niggling faults and local dealership is useless

...I bought a 12 month old Grande Punto Dynamic Sport 1.4 from Picadilly Motors in Wakefield and the experience was a good one. However since owning it for just over a month it has developed a rattle in the rear off side door and the door lock in the same door has gone intermittent. Sometimes it will not lock sometimes the outside handle doesn't work. I booked it into a Fiat Dealership locally, in Stockport, with a 10 day lead time, telling them of the lock and rattle problem and they diagnosed it needed a new lock and i would have to come back when the lock was obtained. Several days later I took it in for a fix while i wait and 11/2 hours later they notified me that they had got the wrong lock, the one for the nearside rather than offside.it has to go back again. i can see this is going to be fun. The rattle was supposed to be fixed...

Fiat Grande Punto 1.2 dynamic

Advantages: Cheap, good looks, equipement, running costs, spacious
Disadvantages: underpowered, build quality not up there with the class best, Fiat dealers

...Price is good, and can be many thousands of pounds cheaper than a clio, corsa e.t.c. The new punto is also cheap to run, and with long 18.000 mile service intervals servicing is cheaper than some rivals as well. Economy of 40 MPG for my 1.2 petrol aint bad either. Although the engine is underpwered for a car of the size and weight, so needs revving a bit, but at home on the motorway at decent speeds. A slightly more powerful engine would improve economy as there would be more power to shift the bulk of the car, but as it is thats my only complaint about the engine. Safety - Full 5 star NCAP rating with 6 airbags accross the range, so if im driving it i feel safe and secure. Comfort - Very comfortable to be in, with controls mounted on the wheel. Seats could be more supportive, but other than that the fiat is a nice place to be in...

Fiat Punto 52 plate 1.2 Dynamic (5 door)

Advantages: A small, low cost, but zippy car which is also reliable and easy to fix
Disadvantages: A difficult car to drive

...I recently purchased a Fiat Punto 1.2 Dynamic (5 door) straight from the dealers (Rockingham Motors, Northants). The Fiat website was exceedingly useful and allowed me to email the dealers to arrange a test drive. In short the car was excellent: at a cost of £3300 for a 52 plate with only 42,000 miles on the clock and 6 months warranty. The car's benefits by far out weigh the negatives which I have seen and been told by friends (i.e. not reliable, cheap nasty car, not spacious). The drive itself is comfortable, but I have been informed by passengers that in the back it is not so good. It is excellent for short journey's for both comfort and fuel efficiency (even though I had some issues opening the petrol cap). Longer journey's it guzzles petrol but I expected that with such a small engine. For me, I needed a reliable car...

Pedalling the Punto

Punto To The Rescue

Advantages: Decent engine with low emissions and fuel in-take.
Disadvantages: Tiny top speed and power-steering failure occurs too often.

...I purchased my Fiat Punto 6months ago from an auction in Nottingham, for just £1,000 + £200 auction charge. The car was in great condition (besides a flat tire which put bidders off), with only 41,000 miles of the clock! When I got the car home I discovered a few small problems which may or may not be common in most Punto's: - The doors were creaking loudly when opened and closed. This was something I knew WD40 couldn't fix as the clicks were vibrating the doors, making it clear the issue was past an oil deficiency. - I had several problems with the powersteering (a common issue in Punto's). When leaving a car-park I put the steering wheel in full lock and the power steering failed. It came back however and remained in tact. Then later I noticed the steering begin to deteriorate and eventually I was forced to drive on the cars...

The Punto experience.

Advantages: Cheap, roomy, stylish, nippy, practical, reliable.
Disadvantages: A bit of a struggle on motorways, not comfortable enough for long journeys.

...You know the saying that a dogs bark is often worse than its bite, well the same can be said for trees. Following a car accident in April which resulted in my car being written off after an altercation with sycamore tree, I was in search of some new wheels. After much deliberation I opted for a Fiat Punto S60 which was on a P (1997) plate, with just over 51,000 miles on the clock and was priced at £1,600 from a car dealer. This was around £200 less than the price suggested by Parkers Car Price Guide, so I considered it a bit of a bargain. EXTERNALLY Punto's are probably not the best looking cars on the road, but I've seen worse. Punto against the rest

Advantages: Price, space, looks, extras/spec, easy to get hold of!
Disadvantages: erm, i guess its just personal taste!

....25 zetec, and again 5 doors are difficult to find! Next door for Vauxhall's Corsa. First impressions; quite smart, but very small! Sitting in the back my knees were almost touching the dashboard! However the spec isnt too bad, but room in general was very low, noisey engine, rough ride, and very over priced for what they are makes this tiny car out of the window. On the way home, rather annoyed that we could not find a descent match, we saw our local Fiat dealers, and thought a butchers at a Punto wouldnt do any harm. The staff were very helpful to start with and my father and i were thown the keys to a brand new Fiat Punto 1.2 16V Dynamic 5 door, in a spendid looking blue. As we sat into the seat, something seemed to spark, and we suddenly realised that we were sitting rather high up for a supermini, and had a great view of the road...
