Pure Digital Evoke 3 DAB Radio - top sound for a portable radio

Advantages: Great sound, great features, record to SD card
Disadvantages: Can't record one station whilst listening to another, no MW and not the most intuitive to use.

...I pondered for ages trying to decide between the Roberts RD55 and Pure's Evoke 3 as I wanted something that had functionality to pause and rewind, record (specifically to SD card), play FM stations, have stereo sound and play MP3's as well as one that gave great sound and could carry base and wouldn't distort at high volumes but I couldn't find anywhere on the net that compared the 2. I knew the Evoke 3 had won loads of awards but that was in 2006 and with it being 2008 I realised technology would have moved on so the newer RD55 could have improved or equal quality sound without having won any awards. In the end I realised the only option was to actually go into a shop and listen to the sound for myself (having a baby I'd put off doing that as it can be such a mission to get out these days!). Review of Pure Digital Evoke 3

The Pure Highway saved my life

Advantages: Very Portable and very easy to use
Disadvantages: Suffers from poor signal in some remote areas

...I use the Pure Highway every day in my truck and I have to say it is brilliant. It tunes into a spare FM band on my in cab radio and sounds first class. It is so easy to use and looks great as well. The Pure Highway fits into a small space on my windscreen out of the wiper swipe and keeps me legal. The Highway takes its power from the cigarette lighter and has an internal Arial that is fixed to the windscreen. I found this system ok for most journeys but when I was in more remote parts of the country I suffered from digital drop out. The pure allows you to fade this rather than here that awful screeching sound. I eventually purchased an outside Arial that fits on the cab roof via a magnetic base. This allows me 100% coverage all over the UK so far. I rely on my Pure Highway every day and I have to say it has never let me down...

I went with the glossy white version. The Pure One mini is only 6 inches by 6 inches and 2.5 inches deep and without the battery pack is less than 1kg in weight. Pure Digital Sound for Sleepyheads.

...software upgrades that are available. All in all I can find nothing to complain about with this radio except, that it is not a portable radio that can be powered with batteries. We have a Pure Digital Evoke 1 which we have had for a couple of years for downstairs use. I was lucky enough to get this radio with my Boots points that I had been collecting for years in their winter sale. I really cannot rate this product more highly to everybody, it has given me everything I want from a radio and more. I purchased my Tempus 1 from JohnLewis.com and it cost me £99.95....

That in mind, although now single and able to choose my own channels, I had got out of the habit of listening to the radio at home and wondered if this rather expensive purchase would be worth it. If you have Sky or Freeview you can pick up some of these new stations on your TV but that is not very portable if you want to listen to the radio in the bath for example. There are some attractive radios out there, such as the wooden Pure Evoke and the trendily retro Roberts' ones that sold for £80-100. They looked great but I didn't feel I could justify the cost. PURE ONE DAB

Advantages: Great sound, attractive, easy to use.

...Wow! What can I say, I bought this in 2007 for £49.99. It is an excellent DAB Radio and depending where you are there are about 32 stations. The radio is light, small and easy to carry on long-distances. Attractive, mine is black. The night-light display is easy to read and after about an hour you will learn how to use all the functions and options. It receives FM and DAB. It does not have a carry handle so it is not as practical as some. With a lovely clear tone and a a one watt speaker, it is loud enough. The first one I bought was fine until a week later it wouldn't turn on. So, I took it back and got a replacement , the salesman saying he's never come across a faulty PURE. Anyway, my replacement as been absolutely brilliant. I have bought my father one and he has had no problems with his either. Highly recommended....

Advantages: Access To Digital Only Stations, Clear Reception, Looks Very Nice
Disadvantages: Single Speaker, Expensive, Only 6 Presets.

The only thing that is annoying is that with old analogue radios you could still listen to stations even if your reception wasnt perfect, you could choose to listen with some interference, With DAB you cant, its all or nothing... if the signal isnt spot on you just wont get the station. It would of been nice to have the option but this defeats the object of digital I guess. The radio is quite heavy but as I said earlier its mains only powered so it wont be moved around much. ...I purchased a Pure 1500 Handheld DAB / FM Radio and had it for one week as I did not get on very well with the buttons. I consequently found something else in its place. Here is the lowdown of the Pure 1500 handheld DAB Radio.
