...My friend and I are usually more than happy to slob out in front of the TV with a take-away on a Friday night. Last week, though, we had plans to meet up someone we were at university with a couple of years ago and we didn't particularly want him to see us in all our glory (or distinct lack of). We therefore decided a trip to a local restaurant was in order and as we were meeting in Putney, a restaurant in Putney it was. My friend chose Strada because she'd eaten there before and knew that the food was good as well as being reasonably priced. Kinetica @ Putney Leisure Centre

Advantages: pay monthly membership, no joining fee, huge high spec gym, car-park
Disadvantages: dated changing facilities, showers not up to much, very busy peak hours

...Putney Leisure Centre does exactly what it says on the tin..... and more! Yes its a leisure centre, but it's also a modernised gym on 3 levels wich caters for all lifting and cardio needs. Members are generally serious about their health and you very rarely see someone jogging whilst glued to their mobile! Being a leisure centre and gym means that its a family friendly environment but you are not invaded by young children and teenagers as you're trying to get through your workout. The gym was recently upgraded and a childrens suite installed for certain age-groups to train in safety. The one big factor for me was that you are not tied into a 12 month contract or lumbered with hefty joining fee's. To me this suggests that Kinetika have to work harder than most gyms to keep you coming back every month... which in turn makes Kinetika...

Kinetica Putney Leisure Facilities Review

Advantages: cheap, no joining fee, good cardio equipment, good range of workout classes
Disadvantages: overcrowded, nasty swimming pool

...times which does help to keep things moving a bit faster. There does not seem to be any limit on the number of members and you constantly see people being shown round the gym, signing up and having inductions. This is most noticable in the new year and in the summer when everyone decides to try to get fit. The range of workout classes is very good and the quality of instructors high. A new workout programme started in september and now has Body Combat, Body Balance, Body Pump and Body Jam which are all pre-choreographed classes. There are also aerobics, step, conditioning, yoga, salsa aerobics, circuit, aquarobics and more classes. The timetable is such that it is possible to fit in a variety of classes after work or go during the day to a variety of classes on days off! My main complaint at about Kinetica Putney is...

Good cheap Thai food in Putney

Phil?AKA Lostwitness?Le Témoin Perdu as he?s known throughout the backstreets of Paris and Marseilles?recently wrote a very funny and quite irreverent critique of Asda taking as his template the theme: 30 Things I Hate About You. I read it, grateful for some humour on an otherwise fairly gloomy sort of day, wrote a wee comment in his guestbook (as is my wont) and was rewarded by a direct challenge to write a similar sort of review myself. Fitness facilities review

Advantages: cheap (at the moment), with numrous aerobic facilities
Disadvantages: cramped and crowded at peak times

...Having joined Putney Leisure Centre when its fitness area was run by Cannons, I was happy with its cheap and cheerful, but comprehensive, facilities. At the end of September, Kinetica took over the running of the centre, and immediately brought in a truckload of new aerobic equipment - cross trainers, bikes and treadmills. Although this seemed encouraging, I was less happy that the greater emphasis on aerobic exercise had taken away all the resistance machines I was using at the time! Putney's big problem at present is the relative lack of space - while they have upped the number of machines significanlt, it's all rather cramped, and at 7 pm on a week night you can find yourself waiting for some time for access to a machine. However, I notice that there are plans to restructure the whole of the building, which will hopefully...

High and mighty

Advantages: Fascinating look at a man whose achievements are little remembered
Disadvantages: Perhaps not the most inviting or 'nice' subject for a book (but life's not always nice!)

Toot! Toot! Tootsies!

...Tootsies is a chain resturant, and I'm going to be reviewing the Tootsies in Putney, near Fulham FC's Craven Cottage. *FOOD* I went to Tootsies with my dad, when we were going to a football match. And we felt like burgers when we arrived and saw the menu. I ordered a "Classic Burger" that was about £5.95, and my dad ordered a "Jalpeno" for about £7.95. When the food arrived, the burgers both had sticks sticking through the middle. Its original, but you either eat around the stick, or take it out. The food itself was very nice, but I don't like bacon, tomato or lettuce! So my dad ate it for me! My "Classic Burger" was a burger, between a bun, with cheese, bacon, tomato and lettuce in the middle. The food did taste very nice. When it came to desserts, I had a 3-scoop vanilla "Jersey Ice-Cream" and my dad had a 1-scoop...

Advantages: Prime location and plenty of history
Disadvantages: Very outdated when compared with other clubs at the same level

...Let’s face facts – Craven Cottage is an outdated ground that, according to current stadium regulations, has no place in the First Division, let alone the Premiership in which Fulham will probably be playing next season. That aside, I have to admit to having a soft spot for this stadium, for one very simple reason. Cast your minds back to a Friday night in November 1991, it’s the first round of the FA Cup and Isthmian League side Hayes have been given a plum tie away to the once-mighty Fulham.
