...Q was founded in 1986 to match the existing monthly glossies, Vox and Select, and to provide a grown up alternative to Smash Hits. Here is a breakdown of items and regular features in a typical issue of Q. I have rated each aspect out of 5. SPINE MESSAGE ------------------------ A cryptic message in tiny font on the spine. It used to have something to do with the cover star, but lately the message can relate to anyone featured in the issue. A recent one read: "Lulu, Cerys Matthews, the Hamiltons". It turns out they have all been guests of Cable TV, a BBC Wales chat show hosted by Stuart Cable (ex of the Stereophonics). A small Q&A with the Stereophonics featured a question about Cable's sacking. Get it right and printed and you win whatever electrical item is on offer that month. Q&A for the Ciao Cafe

Advantages: Killed a bit of time
Disadvantages: Boy am I indecisive

I hate feet, not sure what it is, i've never liked feet, they freak me out and I cant do anything to avoid the things! Even if I dont have shoes on I have socks, i'm like my dad, all the rest of my family like bare feet but not me and dad. This Q&A was designed and developed by Coolaskaha. I spotted a few other members who had done it so thought i'd give it a go, i've become quite fond of the challenges. Peace and quiet in central Zurich

Advantages: Location, breakfast, comfort, cleanliness
Disadvantages: Small; a little pricey

...Helmhaus Swiss Q Hotel is one of the hotels in Zurich offered by Expedia in their flight plus hotel deals, and this is how we discovered it. Whilst not the cheapest option, its central location meant we could save both time and money travelling to and from the city. What's more, breakfast is included in the price. Reviews on Tripadvisor were very favourable, and a look at the hotel's website further encouraged us to make it our choice. We did not regret this. My son and his partner booked a double room for three nights, and I booked a single for one night only. I cannot comment on how easy it is to book the hotel directly, as our reservations were made through Expedia. We booked in June for a stay in late August. All three of us travelled with hand luggage only, and in about fifteen minutes we were easily able to walk from Zurich...

The Strand Palace Hotel

Advantages: Central location, clean

...We stayed at this hotel in London a little over a month ago now for two nights, we chose this hotel mainly because of the central location and because it was only a ten minuite walk from the show we had booked to go too. Check in was very quick - About ten minuites and the staff at the reception seemed very friendly. My first thoughts on the hotel was that it looked really clean and that it was nicely decorated and it looked modern. I was a little dissapointed with our room as it was very small and basic, our room had a double bed, tea and coffee making facilities, a tv with satellite and a small, basic en suite bathroom with a shower. The views from our room very very poor - A block of offices which made our room dark as they were so close. The hotel has two bars and two resturaunts, the bars were again nicely decorated...

...Q Magazine must be one of the most easily recognizable publications around, with its big white Q on a red background in the top left corner. From its launch back in 1986 there has been 197 issues and it has now become Britains biggest music magazine. Over the years its journalistic style has changed, some times to keep in line with current trends and also to appeal to a wider audience. It has recently undergone a minor facelift in an attempt to make the reviews easier too read. FREE CD ******* have only just managed to get hold of a copy of the December 2002 issue as the shops have either being sold out, the copies have been mangled or the free CD had been pinched! Hotel International

...I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights. LOCATION: The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal. PRICE: Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time...

Advantages: entertaining, funny, comprehensive, great free CD

...Q is one of the biggest-selling monthly music magazines on the market. It's been around for ages now and its popularity endures. I've been a reader on and off for about 8 years, and I can say that this month's edition is one of the best I've bought. Q's writers are clued-up and funny. You can tell that they just love music - not just the latest 'must have' music, but music that's good whatever its genre. Sure, the writers can sometimes be arrogant, sometimes be sneering, and sometimes they get things mighty wrong (I always remember their damning 'it'll get nowhere' review of Oasis' What's the Story), but they make up for it with quality journalism, great in-depth interviews, hilarious mickey-takes and a slick professional style.
