Review of Quad 22 L

21 - Counting cards pays off.

Advantages: An interesting story, more so because it is based upon fact.
Disadvantages: A bit predictable towards the end.

Even more so because the film is based upon fact. 21 is based on the book 'Bringing Down The House' by Ben Mezrich. What's it all about? The film is centres on the character of Ben Campbell played by Jim Sturgess. He is a student at MIT in Boston, who desperately wants to get into Harvard Medical School to become a doctor. The film opens with him being interviewed for a scholarship there, as paying is out of the question. The interview doesn't appear to be going so well, but then the story turns to Ben in maths class and here his natural ability shines. Quad 306 current dumper

The Quad 306 is a power amplifier. That means it just provides the power for the speakers. A separate control unit (or pre-amp) is needed to connect the other equipment to. Quad 11L speakers Look good. Sound good.

Advantages: Ease of positioning.
Disadvantages: Attract the dust.

...The Quad 11L is a bookshelf speaker, and it is the smallest in Quads 'L' range. The 12L is a slightly larger bookshelf speaker, and there are two floorstanders. The 21L and 22L. The 'L' series first appeared in 2001. Actually, there was the 10L which came out in 1997, which I believe was smaller than an 11L and was made for Quad by Spendor. So strictly speaking the 'L' series started then. But the current range dates from 2001, and is made by Quad. Prior to the 'L' range, Quad had not produced (or badged) any box speakers. They have been famous for their electrostatic speakers since 1957. These are not box type speakers, but are flat panel speakers and are quite expensive. The current range starts from £3500. So the box type speaker range was quite a departure for Quad. Whether it was a commercial decision or not I don't know. But...

ATV Quad Lame

Disadvantages: Gameplay, graphics, sound, longevity, value for money and multiplayer functions.

...ATV Quad Frenzy is a racing game on the Nintendo DS where you race on a quad bike. It's also boring. GAMEPLAY You can either play a quick race, in the championship, where you get virtual money which you spend on your bike, play multiplayer or practice. It sounds OK, but it's poor. GRAPHICS The graphics on ATV Quad Frenzy are OK, but could be widly improved. The graphics are also really basic and there's no detail at all! SOUND There are a few music tracks on Quad Frenzy, but they are simple and not much work has been put into them. LONGEVITY The game will last you about 1 hour, then it gets boring, even with multiplayer! It's lame and dull! The Quad 34 - still a good'n.

...The Quad 34 is a preamplifier, also known as a control unit. It doesn't actually do much amplifying, as that is done by the power amp. The 34 first appeared in 1981, and matches the 405 power amp and FM4 tuner. It was the second preamp in the Quad series '4', the other being the larger 44. The 34 has fewer interchangeable modules than the 44. With the 44, all of the inputs at the rear (for radio, aux, disc etc) were replaceable. With the 34, only the disc (turntable) input is swappable. This is so that different turntable cartridges (mm, mc) can be accomodated. It may be confusing to call the turntable input 'disc', but this was before the appearance of CDs. ...This is a review of the Quad 66CD player, not the 66 amplifier. In fact it is my second attempt. The first got lost somewhere into the ether due to a problem with the Ciao site, I think. The 66CD is part of the Quad 66 series of hifi components. The other parts are the 66FM tuner, 66 preamp/control unit, and 606 power amp. There is also the 66 remote control unit which is extremely large, usually called a console. The 66 series was in production from the early 1990s, and only for a few years. None of the components are therefore available to buy new. Unless you're lucky enough to find new old stock, which does happen. The original price was around £800 per unit.
