Taking the P out of "Quality"

Advantages: Somewhere to park, food quite good
Disadvantages: Filthy cramped rooms, uncomfortable beds, noisy

...the noise from the kitchen's extractor fans to keep me awake. Having given up trying to sleep I put the TV on to drown the noise, Channel 4 at 2 am is not great viewing but does have the advantage of drowning out the hum. Eventually I managed to doze for a couple of hours but woke at about 5.30, as some guests returned from the local club and passed my door. Breakfast was OK, buffet style with planty of choice, I have never had bacon that didn't taste of anything so this was a great new experience for me. on checking out I paid £65.75. This was for dinner, bed and breakfast plus a few pints of beer. Not expensive for a hotel but overpriced for the "Quality" of service received. Can I advise anyone driving into Birmingham along the Hagley road looking for a hotel to keep going and not turn into the "Quality"? THe Thistle is...

Not a high Quality Hotel

Advantages: Great location, great breakfast

About a month ago, my good friend Rory called me to put forward some ideas as to what we could do for his Birthday, after about 20 minutes in deep discussion and rampant surfing we decided that it would be a laugh to go to Brighton for the entire weekend to celebrate his birthday. Birmingham Britannia Hotel - Average

Advantages: central location, reasonable room size
Disadvantages: dated furniture, noisy generator, rubbish towels

...I stayed at this hotel for work purposes on Monday 3rd March in a single room on the sixth floor. We paid £70 B&B. My initial reaction was to be extremely negative about this hotel, however, on reflection i think it is important to point out some of its good points. I would not say it was an enjoyable experience, however, it was adequate and i've had worse! On the plus side - This is a proper city centre hotel - right in the centre of town, close to shops. If you are visiting Birmingham to shop, this is perfect. The kettle and toilet were clean, which is always a good start! The member of staff who booked me in was pleasant and helpful. There was an error with our booking, we had 4 rooms booked, but only two of us were on the list. She gave me the list to check through - which had other guest's names and personal details...

DAYS INN - BIRMINGHAM WEST - £54.25 DOUBLE ENSUITE

Advantages: Cheap and cheerful, clean and tidy
Disadvantages: very basic, no frills, but at that price who wants them?

...We live in Devon and had tickets for a Runrig concert in Birmingham Symphony Hall. We live out in the country so going out into the big wide world can be quite scary you know what with all the guncrime and murder in the big cities!!! We were a bit wary of staying in the centre of Birmingham mainly due to cost, so we looked for somewhere on the edge and found Days Inn in West Bromwich, Birmingham. It is just off junction 1 of the M5 which was great and easy to find. We then took a taxi into Birmingham later on. This cost £12 each way, but thats another story! The hotel had underground parking which made us feel that the car was secure (no need to take the wheels in with us)!. The hotel is based on several floors of a large 10 storey building, with reception on the ground floor. Our swipe card would not open the room door...

There are 75 ensuite bedrooms but you will need transport to Chester as it actually at Little Sutton, Ellesmere Port and was at least 11 miles from Chester itself. BACKGROUND: We chose to go on a weekend trip to Chester, my boyfriend Robert and I with Gee Vee Travel (see separate review) and it used this hotel as a base. TRANSPORT We visited Chester by coach and used this hotel as a base only. Some people on our trip had been informed that it was possible to walk into Chester from the hotel but this is not possible as its 11 miles away and you would have to cross the M56 and the A41, which are extremely busy roads. not a QUALITY bed....

...As you'll know from my hotel review I have just been on holiday (althought it seems like a lifetime ago now!) As we had a 11.45am flight it was to be an early start...2 hours for check in, transfer from carpark and actually getting to gatwick itself (over a 2 hour drive for us) so it would have been very early we decided to stay over the night before. After initially not wanting to do this come the day before our holiday I was quite excited and looking forward to it. Is the 'Quality' hotel really 'Quality'??

Advantages: Good sized rooms, beautiful food, comfy beds!

...And the survey says....yes! After spending hours on the internet looking for a room for a night, I decided on the Quality Hotel in Wolverhampton. The quality hotel offers a variety of rooms, from a basic room with 1 single bed, to a family room if you have children. Prices start from around £50.00. It is situated within easy reach of Wolverhampton centre.The room I stayed in was a standard double room which cost £59.50, this was for room & breakfast for 2. Obviously you do pay extra for having breakfast, but if you pay for room only then decide to have breakfast, it costs £10.95 per person. On arrival the staff were very friendly and fast at dealing with checking in, however we discovered there are no lifts at this hotel, only stairs so this isn't suitable for anyone who is disabled, as there are no rooms on the ground floor. DOESN'T THE NAME QUALITY SUGGEST A VFM PRODUCT?

Disadvantages: URGH, DIRTY ROOMS, POOR FOOD, SOMETIMES HAS HIGH RATES, TERRIBLE SERVICE

...of the West End were totally chocker. So, having booked my flights months before (£54 return with EasyJet), I set about finding a hotel in Glasgow ? easy peasy, isn?t it? Um a resounding no to that one, the main Hilton had rooms, £185 per night, way outside my subsistence levels and having already visited Sheffield, Manchester and Preston that week, with Ibiza the following, finances weren?t really on my side. A continued surf on the web found a room in the Quality Central Hotel, (3 ***) Glasgow for the paltry (cough) sum of £105 B&B. Having stayed at the Clarion Hotel Clitheroe (the big brother in the Choice Hotel chain) and received a cracking deal there through laterooms.com with good quality rooms and food, I thought it would be worth a try, but hang on, that was £45 per night through laterooms.com, so maybe I could get it cheaper...
