Ramada Belfast

Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -

...I stayed in the Ramada Hotel in Belfast and I must say that the experiance had its flaws and its charms. I normally stay in the Hilton or the Europa in Belfast if I ever decide to stay but because of the busy Valintines Day period I was unable to book a room in either of these hotels so I then decided to book a room with the Ramada. The price of this hotel was reasonable, at £79 a night, I think that this is a great price for a hotel of this standard because compared to the Hilton thats rooms can cost up to £125 a night for a twin room this is a great price for a Friday night, though the Travel Lodge probably would have been cheaper if you decide to go away for lesiure reasons sometimes that hotel wont cut it. The Room I received was clean, tidy and had lots of space in it, there were two double beds and it allowed smoking (as I...

King of Queens

Advantages: Funny, good characters
Disadvantages: None

...King of Queens is an American sitcom set in New York. The King in question is Doug Heffernan and the Queens they relate to is actually the suburb of New York he lives in with his wife Carrie. I think this title is a really clever play on words and sets the scene for quite a funny sitcom in my opinion. Doug and Carrie are the main couple in this sitcom and it?s really them that the whole show revolves around. They have a nice relationship but bicker like most couples and they really play on each others stereotypes to get the laughs out of the audience. For example Doug is rather fat and so they definitely play this up on the show. He is generally always eating my Carrie facilitates this by buying him or making him his favourite foods. Doug is played by the very funny Kevin James who has been in movies such as Hitch, I Now Pronounce You...

The Belfast Zoo

Advantages: Lots for people to see and do
Disadvantages: Quite hilly and wear something warm if not sunny as it is open to the elements

...The Belfast Zoo is set in the beautiful Cave hill area, from the top of the zoo there is such a view over the lough and Belfast. When you arrive at the zoo there is quite a steep approach and inside the zoo is quite hilly too which is not great for people with walking difficulties. There is an electric train which travels all the way round the zoo so you dont have to miss out. Prices our reasonable and disabled people go free. The first things you encounter when you enter the zoo are a kids farm on the left hand side there kids can see a number of animals, donkeys, cows, goats, pigs and piglets snakes, bats, also in this area there are lemurs which run free it is wonderful for kids and adults alike. Leave the farm and on your right there is a lake with beautiful flamingos and an island with spider monkeys, move a little further on and there is...

Belfast International Airport

Advantages: Internet, Cheap car parking
Disadvantages: Can get boring after 18 hours

...Belfast International Airport (Belfast Aiport) I flew out of belfast airport around four years ago, when I did fly out of the airport it was a bad time to fly out. The day before we where to depart to orlando the shoe bomber came on the scene! So the airport secuirty was put up. But the airline I was travelling with most of their planes had Technical difficuilties. So I was delayed for 30 hours and had to stay in the Hilton over night. So I should be able to tell you enough about it as I was in it for 24 hours. Area... The Belfast airport isn't in belfast, it is closer to Antrim a city near belfast. The airport is around 12 or 13 miles away from Belfast. So I don't know why they called it Belfast International Airport. But there is a hotel beside the airport. So if you have a early flight and you coudn't be bothered to get up...

Travelodge Belfast

Advantages: Cheap, very friendly staff, great location
Disadvantages: No luggage storage, basic room

...I stayed at the Travelodge Belfast in October 2007. The reason for a trip to Belfast was a concert to which I had received free tickets. I left booking the hotel til a couple of weeks before the concert and there wasn't a great deal of choice available. We paid £79.00 for the room, I booked it on a site where I paid 10% deposit and paid the reaminder on arrival at the hotel. We stayed on a Monday night, we got the bus from the airport to the Europa Bus Centre which is located in the city centre. We walked the short distance to the hotel (it is basically down a street and across the road - about 2 minutes walk). We found the hotel easily and were greeted by the receptionist who was very friendly and enthusiastic about the city and the concert we were attending. We were checked in quickly with no problems. The receptionist spent...

travelodge belfast

Advantages: cheap clean rooms
Disadvantages: quite basic

...When looking for somewhere to go for my hen night (or weekend as it turned out to be) I wanted somewhere cheap not just for me but for the others as well, as most of them are on budgets too. I scowered the internet and came up with two nights including flights with a well known budget airline for £90. Bargin we said and booked it. As we were a group booking I was unable to do this on the Travelodges website so I had to phone the main reservations up. This was a simple thing to do as my call was answered very quick and rooms booked all in approximatly 5 minutes. Then everything else was done via email such as booking forms, confirmations etc. When we got to Belfast we took a taxi to the Travelodge on first impressions it seemed fine and the recepionist was very smiley. As we arrived in the morning our rooms weren't ready so we were...

Drama Queen!

Advantages: Superb script and acting, challenging your views, simply fantastic
Disadvantages: Some scenes are just speculative

...I was quite shocked to see that ITV were screening the Oscar winning movie "The Queen" already on Sunday night, so I knew I had to tune in to see what all the fuss was about. As you may or may not know, The Queen won lead actress Helen Mirren an Oscar, a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, a Screen Actors Guild Award and an Award at the Venice Film Festival for being the Best Actress, along many others both for Helen Mirren, and the film was a whole. It has been hugely successful, and because of this I was thoroughly looking forward to seeing what all the fuss was about! The film shows us the events from when Tony Blair was elected as Prime Minister in 1997, to the death of Princess Diana at the end of August 1997. It focuses on the backlash that came about against the Queen when she did not appear to speak publicly on the Princess' untimely death...

Review of The Queen (DVD)

Queen of Harts

Advantages: The performances of the whole cast, subtle and powerful
Disadvantages: Perhaps a bit pro-royalist

...One of the most critically acclaimed and award-winning films of last year was Stephen Frears?s The Queen, starring the Oscar, Bafta and pretty much every other award-winning Helen Mirren as Elizabeth II. The film begins with the election of 1997, when Tony Blair (played here by Michael Sheen) became PM for the first time. We watch as he nervously conducts his first meeting with the queen, in which she has to formally ask him to become Prime Minister and all that official stuff. The film then moves forward to Sunday 31st August 1997, which everyone over a certain age will remember was the day when Princess Diana and Dodi Al-Fayed were killed in the Paris car crash. Saddened, but hardly grief-stricken, the Royal Family (Prince Phillip played by James Cromwell, the Queen Mother by Sylvia Sym and Prince Charles by Alex Jennings...

Queen of the Valley

Advantages: Interesting, very interesting!
Disadvantages: The most famous tomb is now closed.

...Day 1 in Egypt, site number 2 (and it is only 09:30), so let's do away with the babble and launch right in.... ~What's this place all about then?~ The Valley of the Queens is the burial site for the Queens & children of the Pharaohs of the 18th, 19th & 20th dynasties (1550 - 1070BC). It is said that there are about 70 (some claim as many as 85) different burial sites in the area. Probably the most famous tomb here is that of Queen Nefertari*, which is the largest and most spectacular in the valley. Unfortunately, this tomb is now no longer open, we were told by our guide that a couple of years ago there was some rain in the valley, which caused some damage to Nefertari's tomb. The Egyptian Government went about restoring the damage, and spent roughly a cool million on it. To recuperate the funds they opened the tomb, but...

More about Belfast

Advantages: Lots to see & do
Disadvantages: Some people

...and Queen's students Union, open to non students. Queen's student union also houses one of the most popular nightclubs in the city. Some puns and clubs can be a bit rough, but as with everywhere, keep your wits about you & you'll be fine. The shopping is also good in Belfast, although the city centre is mainly high street chains. Debenhams is the only department store, and it is smaller than a lot of similar stores I have visited, but is well stocked and staff are friendly. The city centre, shopping wise, is easy to navigate, as it seems to be laid out in a grid, with each street running parallel to a main street. Castle Court is the main shopping centre within the city centre, incorporating amongst others, debenhams, tk maxx and the Burton group. There are plans for a large House of Fraser, but work has only recently started on this...
