..."MY ENEMY THE QUEEN" I am lady, age 69 years, who lives in the deep south of the US. For the past decade, I've sought out books of historical fiction; particularly set in the British Isles. I found this book entirely fascinating!! If the historical time period it covers is anywhere near factual, then it provides a broad and well detailed panoramic view of Elizabethan England. The life and times of Queen Elizabeth1 are graphically written. Attention to even the smallest detail of apparel, eye color, physical appearance, and personality present Victoria Holts brillant writing ability. The story takes you back, almost in person, to Elizabethan England, and the court of the Queen. It's very much worth reading, if you like historical fiction....

Queen Victoria Building a must for Shoppers

Advantages: Great shops, especially menswear
Disadvantages: None really

...For all those Shopperholics who are planning a visit down under, must pop along to the Queen Vic. Apart from over four floors of shopping floors, though not a mall in any standard, the shops that are located a local chain stores like country road australia, Oranton leaver goods Marcs just to name a few. After doing that long awaited shopping spree, head to the ground or lower ground floors and try some of the great food available in one of many cafe's/bars. The Building is easy to get to by public transport. The nearest station being Town hall is simply across the road, or take one of the buses from Central Station up George street and it will drop you right out the front. I would recommend anyone heading there to check out the country road store. If you are travelling with good old sterling, you will be amazed at the quality...

...Nottingham has two large shopping centres, the Broadmarsh Centre and the Victoria Centre, situated at opposite ends of the city centre .The Victoria Centre is the bigger of the two, containing 120 shops (not counting all the various stalls in the market area.) Getting there is easy - if you drive, there's parking for over 2700 cars . If you don't drive, don't worry - almost all the Nottingham City Transport buses stop either directly outside the Victoria Centre, or within a few minutes walk of it . Other bus companies from slightly further afield, such as Trent Barton , terminate at the local coach station within the centre . If you're walking, the centre is signposted from various points in the city centre, and at the end of the day when you're weighed down with shopping, there are 2 taxi ranks directly outside the main entrance...

King of Queens

...King of Queens is an American sitcom set in New York. The King in question is Doug Heffernan and the Queens they relate to is actually the suburb of New York he lives in with his wife Carrie. I think this title is a really clever play on words and sets the scene for quite a funny sitcom in my opinion. Doug and Carrie are the main couple in this sitcom and it?s really them that the whole show revolves around. They have a nice relationship but bicker like most couples and they really play on each others stereotypes to get the laughs out of the audience. For example Doug is rather fat and so they definitely play this up on the show. He is generally always eating my Carrie facilitates this by buying him or making him his favourite foods. Doug is played by the very funny Kevin James who has been in movies such as Hitch, I Now Pronounce You...

The Grand Old Dame of Sydney

Advantages: Amazing toilets, beautiful decor, many wonderful things to see.

The QVB, as it is known locally, is one stunning shopping mall, and even Pierre Cardin reputedly described it as "the most beautiful shopping centre in the world". Located on George St. in downtown Sydney, it was built in 1898 as a market hall to celebrate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee, and the designers didn't leave anything out. From the outside, the sandstone Romanesque giant is topped by a huge glass dome, and is definitely one of the most beautiful buildings in Sydney. But the inside is even better, with splendid stained glass-windows, wood panelling, patterned floor tiles and handsome period style decoration. I was there at New Year 2004, and the massive Christmas tree and sparkling decorations made it even more spectacular. There are over 180 shops...

Drama Queen!

...I was quite shocked to see that ITV were screening the Oscar winning movie "The Queen" already on Sunday night, so I knew I had to tune in to see what all the fuss was about. As you may or may not know, The Queen won lead actress Helen Mirren an Oscar, a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, a Screen Actors Guild Award and an Award at the Venice Film Festival for being the Best Actress, along many others both for Helen Mirren, and the film was a whole. It has been hugely successful, and because of this I was thoroughly looking forward to seeing what all the fuss was about! The film shows us the events from when Tony Blair was elected as Prime Minister in 1997, to the death of Princess Diana at the end of August 1997. It focuses on the backlash that came about against the Queen when she did not appear to speak publicly on the Princess' untimely death...

...One of the most critically acclaimed and award-winning films of last year was Stephen Frears?s The Queen, starring the Oscar, Bafta and pretty much every other award-winning Helen Mirren as Elizabeth II. The film begins with the election of 1997, when Tony Blair (played here by Michael Sheen) became PM for the first time. We watch as he nervously conducts his first meeting with the queen, in which she has to formally ask him to become Prime Minister and all that official stuff. The film then moves forward to Sunday 31st August 1997, which everyone over a certain age will remember was the day when Princess Diana and Dodi Al-Fayed were killed in the Paris car crash. It is said that there are about 70 (some claim as many as 85) different burial sites in the area. Probably the most famous tomb here is that of Queen Nefertari*, which is the largest and most spectacular in the valley. Unfortunately, this tomb is now no longer open, we were told by our guide that a couple of years ago there was some rain in the valley, which caused some damage to Nefertari's tomb.
