Carbon Monoxide Detectors
Advantages: Peace of Mind
Disadvantages: Have to remember to change them
...detectors, the ones I chose were from Tesco and a twin pack costs £4.99 which is a small price to pay for Peace of mind. These discs are placed on the wall near gas appliances and a change in the colour will register whether carbon monoxide is apparent. I now live in the country, without gas but if I remember right the detectors last for 60 days and then have to be replaced.
They also must not be placed near nappies or any cleaning products that could contain ammonia as this could affect the reading.
This product though is no substitute for having your gas appliances tested professionally...

Gives you a sporting chance...
Advantages: Excellent detection range for both Radar and Laser based speed traps, full info display, voice alert, effective against Ku band Mini GATSO cameras
Disadvantages: Will nor spot passive devices such as SPECS and TRUVELO, planned to make it along with other detectors of it's type illegal in 2006
...NOW BEFORE I START THIS REVIEW.
I AM NOT CONDONING DANGEROUS DRIVING OR UNNECESSARY SPEEDING.
The Bel Euro 550 is an updated and enhanced verison of the Bel 980 I reviewd earlier-some of the review will be duplicated but not everybody is going to want to read two reviews to get info about one product so here goes..
I owned a Bel 980 for almost two years back between 2000-2002 and was very happy with it's performance.Progress never stops and eventually it has been updated and enhanced.
Now, I purchased a Valentine One and my boss recognised the need for a good Radar detector but didn't want to spend £400-600 on it. So after a discussion, I recommended the Euro 550.
The Euro 550 is the current top of the range detector available from Bel and available through a number of suppliers. RRP is currently £399.95 through Networx...

Why do i need a speed trap detector?
Advantages: Detects everything known to man - almost!
Disadvantages: Expensive to buy and ongoing update costs
...Firstly, i do not condone the breaking of speed limits but along with my review of this product i will also explain my reason for purchasing it.
I purchased my Snooper from In Car Express who are a automotive specialist in Cambridge. They have an excellent website and their prices are very competitive. I can recommend them.
I actually purchased the S6-R Plus which is exactually the same model as the S6-R apart from the display. The Plus has a relaxing blue display compared to the original green one. This Snooper consits of three components; the main display; the laser/radar detector; the GPS antenna. It additionally has the added benefit that you are not required to conect it to a computer to update its database of fixed camera locations, as it has an inbuilt modem and can be connected directly to any telephone socket.

Snooper SD815is
Advantages: 5 Band detection, range of use
Disadvantages: A bit too sensitive at times - keeps bleeping
...Having received 2 fixed penalties for speeding in 1 month, at speeds not significantly over the limit, nor at anything like some drivers you see flying past you (but that's a different story!), I decided to buy a radar detector. The models available differ vastly in price, ranging from about £100 upto £600, with the major differences being the detection range and frequencies covered. The cheaper models only cover 4 bands, missing out the new mini-gatso cameras, so I opted for the Snooper SD815is, giving 5 band detection and good range, upto 2 miles for radar and laser guns, 600 yards for the mini gatsos and 100 yards for gatso cameras.
The unit sits on either a frame using suckers to fix to the windscreen or with a bit of velcro to attach to your dash and is powered via the fag lighter, though you can hardwire the power lead into...

Super Snooper
Advantages: Gives You A Chance
Disadvantages: False Alerts (but you soon work it out)
...THESE UNITS ARE NOT A LICENCE TO SPEED AND I DO NOT ENDORSE SPEEDING. THIS IS MEARLY A REVIEW OF THE PRODUCT. IT IS PROVEN THAT PEOPLE WHO USE THESE UNITS HAVE 24% LESS ACCIDENTS. BY KNOWING WHERE CAMERAS ARE THE OVERALL AVERAGE SPEED MUST DECREASE.
QUICK OVERVIEW
What is a snooper?
For those of you that don't know what these great little gadgets are, they are speed camera detectors. Basically they give you a chance of saving some points, your licence and a bit of money (after initial cost). They are aimed at making drivers slow down because they know there is a camera. It's also proven that snooper users have less accidents (it says so on the box at least). Oh and they are 100% legal in the UK.
IN DETAIL
Range
GATSO Cameras can be detected upto 75 yards
MINI GATSO Cameras upto 400 yards
LASER and RADAR Guns upto 1 mile...

* Smoke Alarm alert, time to think! about Death! .
Advantages: These do save lives.
Disadvantages: £20 ish - Same as a night out? Hair-do? Exactly!
...OK, This review is on smoke alarms, this is the point where you stop reading, there is nothing interesting in these reviews, and something automatically stops you reading. Someone's kids will die this Christmas, makes you think doesn't it?
These ones by Aico, The company sounds Japanese, but actually they are from Shropshire. These alarms have all the advantages of a battery model, but are mains powered. These are also known as Hard wired smoke detectors. They are also fitted with a lithium battery as a back up, and this trickle charges from the mains, so you will never have to replace it.
There are different types of detector, these are of the ionisation variety, but that does not concern us. Just accept that they are suited for fast flaming fires, and that the vast majority of smoke alarms in the home are of this type...

These tiny little disc's could be the difference between life and death so please read on and if you don't have them or an electronic detector go out tomorrow and get some.
WHAT IS CARBON MONOXIDE ?
----------------------------------------------
Carbon Monoxide is known as the silent killer being a clear odourless gas that can take your life without you even knowing it is in the air. It does take a while to build up to a fatal level but without detectors the first you will know about it is when you can't move and feel sick then it's to late. Carbon Monoxide is a by...

The Silent Killer
Advantages: Will save your life
Disadvantages: None
...This is a must buy, life saving device for everyone.
Carbon Monoxide is a dangerous gas than can have a serious effect on your health and can lead to death. It is a silent killer as it has does not smell like gas does and it has no colour so it is not possible to detect if you haven't got one of these detectors.
Carbon Monoxide can lead to death as once you breath the gas in, it sticks to your blood cells making them less effective at carrying oxygen around your body.
If you have more headaches than normal and flue symptoms that you can't get rid off, it could be due to an abnormal level of Caron Monoxide in your home.
For piece of mind, £4.99 for two, they are a bargain. After all you can not put a price on yours or your family's life.
They are two disc's with sensitive spots in the middle which is the detector part...

Light up your mother in law!
Advantages: Excellent level of light, work very well, cheap
Disadvantages: None for us so far
...My mother in law was coming to visit us a few weeks ago and we were getting things ready in our new cottage. She has recently had a hip replacement operation and is recovering very well but we wanted to make sure that the cottage was as safe as we could possibly make it for her.
One of the things we wanted to get was a night light of some sort as she usually gets up in the night to go to the toilet.
We looked at the ones available in B & Q and chose a Motion Detector LED Night Light by Masterplug. The pack contained 2 plug-in night lights and cost £9.98.
The lights come packed in a see through plastic package with a cardboard insert so that's all recycleable then.
Each one is about 11cm tall by about 7cm wide and 5cm deep with the actual light being circular and just over 5cm in diameter. The light is set towards the top...

WHERE IS THE CURRENT !!!!
Advantages: Could save your life.
Disadvantages: None.
...Have you ever been one of those people that just hammers nails into the wall when you want to hang a picture ? Perhaps you've drilled to put up shelves ? Perhaps you are one of those people that is a little independent and that does not like to ask anyone for help ?
If you fit into any of these categories on the D.I.Y. front, then really this tool is the one for you.
What is it ?
This tool is a detector and what is does basically is measure the density of the wall to show you where there are studs (woodwork which is useful for hanging pictures !), where there are hidden differences in density that you may not otherwise be aware of, but most of all, what it does it save lives, and this is how.
You simply hold the gadget over the wall or ceiling or floor that you want to drill into and turn it on and what happens then is...
