Snoopa Duper
Advantages: Good, cheap GPS snooper,
Disadvantages: bit temprimental
...I brought an S3 Snooper of of ebay for bout £119.99, all the way back in march, I brought as like most motorists i didnt want to risk my licence because of all the new speed cameras popping up everywhere.
It works fine after a warmup period of about thirty seconds, plugs straight into the cigerette lighter easy peezy.
Needs to be updated reguarly on the internet usually once a month as on the snooper website they reguarly update the location of new speed cameras, picks up all the new speed cameras, like the Specs, that pick you up as you enter a zone and then at the end of the zone and calculate the average speed, it beeps when you are in the zone and at the start aswell, it shows a visual warning and an audible warning that can be adjusted to turn the sound down. The audible warning is in the form of beeping which gets louder...

Audi S3
Advantages: Fast, sporty but subtle, great handling
Disadvantages: Fuel economy, lots of abused cars out there
...I own a 2002 S3 225bhp. In a few words - fast, good mid range torque, sporty look without having the boy racer look. It's a classy car which is quicker than most on the road.
The only down points, and this is being picky is the fuel economy, noticeable turbo lag (especially when more than 2 people in the car) and the high service costs if you take it to audi. I take it to a vw-audi specialist though and they're fine.
Prices are good now and i would recommend a fully loaded one - at least try for cruise and bose. I have sat nav too which is worth it.
I don't have chrome mirrors and wouldn't at the price quoted for the originals - plus slightly tacky looking as there are a number of fake S3s out there with the cheap plastic chrome looking mirrors.
Also I would prefer full leathers as the suedes get a bit worn on the drivers...

Audi s3 2001
Advantages: excellent solid package with lots of credability
Disadvantages: mabye not wild enough for some
...I bought my audi s3 in january, so after 6 months of ownership I`d thought I would write a review.
Cost of the s3 was expensive compared to most other hot hatches I paid £13k for a 2001 with 34,000 miles with full service history.
Options wise the list is almost endless you can have the usual metallic paint, leather, sunroof, armrest. The s3 options are chrome mirror covers and lower side mouldings, Bose stereo upgrade heated seats, sat nav and cd changer in the boot.
Mine is metallic grey with full heated leather, sunroof, Bose stereo upgrade which I love
Tip- hold out for the car you really want and be prepared to wait to find the right one, theres no point settling for something you didn`t want!
I have just taken it in for a service at Audi it needed the full one at 36k with a bit of negotiation I managed to get it...

Advantages: Bargain to be had, Quality and Power, Prestige but not a bore
Disadvantages: Expensive Insurane, Running costs,
...The Mk1 Audi S3 built from 99 till 2003 and based on the A3 model it is the flagship of that range. there were 2 variants the 210bhp (99-02) and the 225nhp (02-03).
Both Had the same 1.8 liter straight 4cylinder Turbocharged engine, the second had a variable valve timing to increase the bhp output. Manufacturer stated a 0-62 of 6 seconds.
It was dubbed a Quattro as it used a 4 wheel drive system to distribute the power to where it was needed the most.
The S3 was officially sold in Uk, Europe, Mexico and Australia but not officially in the USA.
Some of the Main Features that came as standard on the new car were; xenon HID headlamps with high pressure washers, front fog lamps, 17 in "Avus" alloy wheels with 225/45R17 tires, electrically adjustable Recaro leather seats, climate control, alarm, electronic traction control...

Gives you a sporting chance...
Advantages: Excellent detection range for both Radar and Laser based speed traps, full info display, voice alert, effective against Ku band Mini GATSO cameras
Disadvantages: Will nor spot passive devices such as SPECS and TRUVELO, planned to make it along with other detectors of it's type illegal in 2006
...NOW BEFORE I START THIS REVIEW.
I AM NOT CONDONING DANGEROUS DRIVING OR UNNECESSARY SPEEDING.
The Bel Euro 550 is an updated and enhanced verison of the Bel 980 I reviewd earlier-some of the review will be duplicated but not everybody is going to want to read two reviews to get info about one product so here goes..
I owned a Bel 980 for almost two years back between 2000-2002 and was very happy with it's performance.Progress never stops and eventually it has been updated and enhanced.
Now, I purchased a Valentine One and my boss recognised the need for a good Radar detector but didn't want to spend £400-600 on it. So after a discussion, I recommended the Euro 550.
The Euro 550 is the current top of the range detector available from Bel and available through a number of suppliers. RRP is currently £399.95 through Networx...

Super Snooper
Advantages: Gives You A Chance
Disadvantages: False Alerts (but you soon work it out)
...THESE UNITS ARE NOT A LICENCE TO SPEED AND I DO NOT ENDORSE SPEEDING. THIS IS MEARLY A REVIEW OF THE PRODUCT. IT IS PROVEN THAT PEOPLE WHO USE THESE UNITS HAVE 24% LESS ACCIDENTS. BY KNOWING WHERE CAMERAS ARE THE OVERALL AVERAGE SPEED MUST DECREASE.
QUICK OVERVIEW
What is a snooper?
For those of you that don't know what these great little gadgets are, they are speed camera detectors. Basically they give you a chance of saving some points, your licence and a bit of money (after initial cost). They are aimed at making drivers slow down because they know there is a camera. It's also proven that snooper users have less accidents (it says so on the box at least). Oh and they are 100% legal in the UK.
IN DETAIL
Range
GATSO Cameras can be detected upto 75 yards
MINI GATSO Cameras upto 400 yards
LASER and RADAR Guns upto 1 mile...

Snooper SD815is
Advantages: 5 Band detection, range of use
Disadvantages: A bit too sensitive at times - keeps bleeping
...the 12v supply. In use, the unit works well, bleeping away, usually when there's no sign at all of any speed traps, which usually means there's a pelican crossing nearby, they use an infra-red detector on the top of the lights which the snooper picks up as well.
So far, it's picked up all of the gatso cameras I've been past, usually giving an adequate warning, enabling me to check my speed. Though this depends on environmental factors, such as whether it's raining as the signal from the traps deteriorates when the air is damp. There's a few cameras that I've been past that I've noticed aren't turned on.
On the motorway, the snooper comes into it's own, it's already given me advance warning of 3 laser/radar traps, allowing me to pull out of the outside lane, check my speed and let everyone else fly past me, only to notice the bloke in...

Why do i need a speed trap detector?
Advantages: Detects everything known to man - almost!
Disadvantages: Expensive to buy and ongoing update costs
...Firstly, i do not condone the breaking of speed limits but along with my review of this product i will also explain my reason for purchasing it.
I purchased my Snooper from In Car Express who are a automotive specialist in Cambridge. They have an excellent website and their prices are very competitive. I can recommend them.
I actually purchased the S6-R Plus which is exactually the same model as the S6-R apart from the display. The Plus has a relaxing blue display compared to the original green one. This Snooper consits of three components; the main display; the laser/radar detector; the GPS antenna. It additionally has the added benefit that you are not required to conect it to a computer to update its database of fixed camera locations, as it has an inbuilt modem and can be connected directly to any telephone socket.

Snooper 715iS
Advantages: Warns you when Gatso Cameras are nearby
Disadvantages: Can be quite loud, Petrol Station camera's set it off.
...I have used this speed camera detector now for about 9 months and have found it very useful. I purchased it because I had been doing a lot of travelling in areas I didn't know and therefore didn't want to be caught out by a Speed Camera.
It is designed to detect Gatso Cameras. These are the most common sort of camera you can get caught by and are the bright yellow ones on the side of the road along with horizontal lines in the road. Because the cameras are operated by infrared, the Snooper picks up this signal and sounds the alarm. What is interesting is that sometimes there isn't a camera inside the box but the light will still flash. Because it is the camera that has the infrared attached to it, if you approach a camera box without a camera being in there, the alarm won't go off. Thereby you can see which have cameras in them...

Carbon Monoxide Detectors
Advantages: Peace of Mind
Disadvantages: Have to remember to change them
...detectors, the ones I chose were from Tesco and a twin pack costs £4.99 which is a small price to pay for Peace of mind. These discs are placed on the wall near gas appliances and a change in the colour will register whether carbon monoxide is apparent. I now live in the country, without gas but if I remember right the detectors last for 60 days and then have to be replaced.
They also must not be placed near nappies or any cleaning products that could contain ammonia as this could affect the reading.
This product though is no substitute for having your gas appliances tested professionally...
