Another Great Ramones DVD
Review of Ramones - Too Tough To Die - A Tribute To Johnny Ramone DVD by
joe-survey
Advantages: Everything
Disadvantages: Nothing
...Stein, that covers the events of that evening and the second part of the DVD covers the unveiling of the Johnny Ramone Bronze statue at HollyWood forever, also the resting place of Dee Dee Ramone. It features commentaries from many of the musicians.
Extra information
Length: 78 Minutes
Age Rating: 15
Region: Region 2
Format:PAL
My Opinion
This is a touching documentary and one that leads you with many different emotions. You will fell happy, sad, depressed and excited throughout. However, it's not all mood and gloom. The performances are good by all the musicians, my favourites being Rob Zombie and Henry Rollins. This is another great Ramones DVD but for different reasons. Personally i wouldn't watch this as an introduction to the band but rather as something to watch once you are a fan and know the songs. It's hard to...

Great for an unofficial DVD
Review of The Ramones - The True Story DVD by
joe-survey
Advantages: Live footage
Disadvantages: Not official
...Ramones
The ramones were a punk rock band from America. They played 2,263 gigs and toured non stop for nearly 22 years. Their songs are short and usually clock in under the three minute mark. They all took stagenames with the surname Ramone, although none of them were related. Within eight years of their breakup, three of the founding members had died.
The true Story
As you may have guessed, this is the true story of the Ramones. It stars founder member Tommy Ramone, tour manager Monte. A. Melnick, art director Arturo Vega and founder and owner of CBGB's, Hilly Kristal. It includes rare broadcasts from Joey, Deedee and Johnny Ramone that have not been released on DVD before. It shows the story behind the history and music of the Ramones.
My opinion
As another unoficial release, this one is pretty good. I havn...

"It is not easy being in A Rock and Roll Band"
Review of Ramones - End Of The Century (Wide Screen) by
Champ666
Advantages: Insightfull glimpse into their world
Disadvantages: Not Enough Music
...This DVD has already got me into trouble with the other half; I got it yesterday from the Music Zone on Market Street for £11-97, and headed off home to watch it. After I finished watching it I phoned up the other half as I had promised and got a bollocking for watching it without her, I told her it was the Ramones and she should not expect self control from me when it comes to the Ramones. Also this is the first ever DVD I have bought for myself not owning a DVD player you see and I had to borrow my housemates PS2 to play it, but it is the Ramones and I love the Ramones. I got the limited edition packaging which comes in a cardboard box made to look like a leather jacket, and it also comes with two badges, what more could a Ramones fan want??????
The Ramones amost single handedley kick started the UK punk scene. They stripped down...

Gabba Gabba Hey
Review of Ramones - End Of The Century (Wide Screen) by
bullybwoy
Advantages: Great documentary for a band who were so often overlooked by the industry
Disadvantages: Extras are a bit poor considering the wealth of footage at their disposal
...'End of the Centrury' is the long-awaited documentary detailing the career of the Ramones. I say long-awaited because due to legal issues regarding the archive footage on the film, interview release forms not being signed, and the film-makers' money problems during the making of the documentary, it very nearly didn't see the light of day. A tour of the various film festivals ensured that the word got around so that finally, legal issues and money problems ironed out, it saw the light of day in UK cinemas last year & came out on dvd sale & rental last week.
I have been reading Legs McNeil's oral history of punk rock, 'Please Kill Me' and its an excellent companion to this film because many of the characters within that book are documented here, and both the book and this film give you the background as to how the Ramones came about...

The One Idomeneo DVD To Own
Review of Mozart - Idomeneo DVD by
EpinionSmorg
Advantages: Brilliant staging, brilliant music, whole cast esp Anja Harteros
Disadvantages: Bipolar Idamante.... the dude can use some sedatives
...with a glorious rendition of the spectacularly difficult Munich version of 'Fuor del mar' by the Mexican tenor, Ramon Vargas, in the title role of Idomeneo.
Vargas also shows himself a better actor than I had imagined him to be. And his voice fits the role perfectly. It is a noble and lyrical voice capable of flawless coloratura runs (florid decoration of the vocal line) and good dramatic thrusts to highten the drama. As his son Idamante is the Czech mezzo Magdalena Kozena, who is vocally nearly perfect for the role. I don't care for her theatrical interpretation of Idamante, however. I think the elegance in the music isn't well served by this manic-depressive portrayal.
As Ilia is the Russian soprano Ekaterina Siurina, who acts well and has a very beautiful and strong soprano voice. A pity that the acting doesn't creep into the voice much (and...

Royal Rumble Review (Like the alliteration? lol)
Review of WWE - Royal Rumble 1995/96 DVD by
Liambrown999
Advantages: Two great PPV's in one!
Disadvantages: NONE!
..., Isaac Yankem and Yokozuna.
Goldust vs. Razor Ramon
Smoking Gunns vs. The Body Donnas
Ahmed Johnson vs. Jeff Jarrett
I hope that any wrestling fan out there is interested in this DVD package as I feel that these two Royal Rumbles in particular are very good and well worth the money. For anyone who is looking to buy a DVD for their children who may have recently got into wrestling; this is from 10 years ago so do not be expecting to see John Cena, Batista or Mr. Kennedy on these DVD's
However, if they are fans of wrestling then they should still want a DVD package like this as it is a 'blast form the past' and shows some of the more well established wrestlers in their prime. Anyone who wants to show their children the wrestlers that they grew up watching...

There's A Lot Missing 'From The Vault'!
Review of WWE - From The Vault: Shawn Michaels DVD by
MizzMolko
Advantages: Some of Shawn's best matches from 1996, with commentary by his lovely self
Disadvantages: Only 7 matches which you may already own if a fan of 90's WWF.
..., many of the matches featured on the 'From The Vault' version are included here, such as his bouts with Bret Hart, Diesel and Mankind. Obviously, the advantage with the former is that you get the Wrestlemania X match against Razor Ramon, which is defiantly one for your collection. However, if you want to really look into depth at Shawn's first title run back in 1996, right until the heartbreaking moment when he lost the belt, than the 'Heartbreak Express Tour'/'Boyhood Dream' is better.#
If you've read my previous Shawn Michaels review on the 'Heartbreak and Triumph' DVD set, you'll know that it features a much wider variety of matches, primarily as extras. It is also better if you want more of the interview or story type segments as it is not only Shawn commentating this time but many co-workers and friends, including Triple H and his...

The Complete Story of Heartbreak and Triumph?
Review of WWE - Shawn Michaels - Heartbreak And Triumph DVD by
MizzMolko
Advantages: Some good, insightful moments and 'forgotten' matches
Disadvantages: Almost the same as the autobiography, lacking depth in some places
...of the classic matches and occurrences mentioned on here, including some of his epic bouts against the now Late Owen Hart and Razor Ramon.
The 'Heartbreak Express Tour' from June 1997 is the first complete Shawn video that I bought. I have to say that whilst its quality has faded due to the wear and tear of so many enjoyable watches, it again shows the stepping stones to the product that is now known as 'Heartbreak and Triumph'. It includes, again, many of the events and match highlights included on this set but is still a good and valuable purchase if you are a big fan of Shawn's but not essential if you are just starting to watch wrestling or become a new fan of the man himself.
However, the most recent of these packages is the 'From the Vault' DVD that was released in 2003. If you haven't got this before 'Heartbreak and Triumph', beside...
