The Ramones
The Ramones must now rank as one of the most brilliant prototypes ever. The New York band helped spark British punk in the 70s, inspired US hardcore through the 80s and 90s and now once more their...

Ramones Masterpiece.
Review of Ramones - Ramones by
markcrymble
Advantages: Some Amazing Songs!
Disadvantages: Only Lasts 30-od minutes ( without bonus tracks )
...' Hey Ho, Lets Go! '
A line that generated a whole new kind of Punk Scene. The Ramones didn't take everything as serious as there UK counterparts, they were happy to sing about love and girls, they were happy to where leather jackets with tight jeans with numerous holes and white tee-shirts - not mentioning the hair style! The Ramones were unique, they came out with their own style, their own look. They shocked the mid 70's music scene with 1 and a half minute songs, which hadn't been encountered in years. But it wasn't a boring 1minute, oh no!
The Ramones music was full of energy and packed with power. They were talented musicians and Joey Ramones was a prolific lead singer. There will never be a band as unique, as groud-breaking yet as simple as the Ramones ever again, ever.
This album was the the first of many by the Ramones...

Journey To The Centre of A Ramones Mind
Review of Acid Eaters - Ramones by
Champ666
Advantages: Loads
Disadvantages: None
...In 1993 the Ramones did that thing that artists who have ran out ideas do..... Release a covers album. The reasons for this I do not know but could have numbered from the fact that original members Johnny and Joey did not speak to each other, and without that line of communication then songwriting is very difficult. They could have drafted in Dee Dee Ramone as a songwriter but he was battling his own demons and according to his Autobiography had been paid a pittance for the songs he gave them for the previous album (Mondo Bizzaro). Dee Dee was a very bitter man about this. So at the time he was very unlikely to be in a mood to give them any new songs. But Marky and C.J. still needed paying.
Once they released a covers album I knew the end was near, but enough doom and gloom this is actually a dam good record and signals a beginning...

Another Great Ramones DVD
Review of Ramones - Too Tough To Die - A Tribute To Johnny Ramone DVD by
joe-survey
Advantages: Everything
Disadvantages: Nothing
...Ramones
The ramones were a punk rock band from America. They played 2,263 gigs and toured non stop for nearly 22 years. Their songs are short and usually clock in under the three minute mark. They all took stagenames with the surname Ramone, although none of them were related. Within eight years of their breakup, three of the founding members had died.
Too tough to die
On September the twelfth 2004, only two and half days before Johnny Ramones death, friends and musicians came together and filmed a benefit concert to celebrate the thirtieth year anniversary of the Ramones by covering some of their songs. They were raising money for Cancer research. Some of the people who performed were Deborah Harry, The Dickies, Rob Zombie, Henry Rollins, X, Eddie Vender and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. This is a Rockumentary by Mandy...

Ramones Mania
Review of Ramones Mania - Ramones by
BigCS
Advantages: 30 classic songs from the best US punk band ever... for a fiver!!!
Disadvantages: The possibility of doing yourself an injury while leaping around to this!
...Hey Ho Lets Go... well that's one way to start a Ramones review! So, how to define the sound of this seminal New York punk band? To me, they're a sort of new wave Beach Boys, with a Phil Spector-esque wall of sound and elements of early rock'n'rollers such as Eddie Cochran can be heard in the simple structure of the songs. To the album... what do you get? One CD, 30 songs, averaging around the 2 minute to 2:30 mark in length. No 15 minute prog rock epics here! The tracks are from 1976 to 1987, and include many classics such as I Wanna Be Sedated, Teenage Lobotomy, Do You Remember Rock 'N' Roll Radio?, Sheena Is a Punk Rocker, Blitzkrieg Bop, Rockaway Beach, Bonzo Goes to Bitburg, Psycho Therapy, Wart Hog, Somebody Put Something in My Drink, KKK Took My Baby Away and Rock 'N' Roll High School.
If you must own one Ramones album, this...

Gabba Gabba Hey!
Review of Hey Ho Let's Go (The Ramones Anthology) [Digipak] - Ramones by
matsu65
Advantages: The first and finest punk band
Disadvantages: None
...This anthology chronicles the history of the Ramones, from their early beginnings in Forest Hills, New York in 1974 through to their last work before they finally went their separate ways in 1996.
The Ramones first album, simply titled Ramones, inspired a generation of musicians with its pure, highly distilled Rock and Roll played at breakneck speed. Among those who have credited the Ramones with setting them on their path into Rock and Roll stardom are U2, Bruce Springsteen, Green Day, the Clash and the Sex Pistols.
This album comprises a huge selection of their finest moments from over 2 glorious decades. I'm not going to go through every track on the album, as it would take forever, so instead I thought I'd take you through some of the highest points and some of the more unusual tracks. It takes you on a journey through classic...

"It is not easy being in A Rock and Roll Band"
Review of Ramones - End Of The Century (Wide Screen) by
Champ666
Advantages: Insightfull glimpse into their world
Disadvantages: Not Enough Music
...This DVD has already got me into trouble with the other half; I got it yesterday from the Music Zone on Market Street for £11-97, and headed off home to watch it. After I finished watching it I phoned up the other half as I had promised and got a bollocking for watching it without her, I told her it was the Ramones and she should not expect self control from me when it comes to the Ramones. Also this is the first ever DVD I have bought for myself not owning a DVD player you see and I had to borrow my housemates PS2 to play it, but it is the Ramones and I love the Ramones. I got the limited edition packaging which comes in a cardboard box made to look like a leather jacket, and it also comes with two badges, what more could a Ramones fan want??????
The Ramones amost single handedley kick started the UK punk scene. They stripped down...

Pulsating To The Back Beat
Review of Ramones, The (Remastered And Expanded) - Ramones by
Champ666
Advantages: Rock and Roll Ground Zero
Disadvantages: None Really
...This is it Kids Rock and Roll ground zero in 1976 the Ramones released their first album. From folk that I know who were around at the time the first impression was "WHAT" followed by laughter only after subsequent listening did they fully understand what was going on here. I think it was Legs McNeil of Punk Magazine that summed it up rather nicely rather than sing intelligent songs about stupid subjects the Ramones sung stupid songs about intelligent subjects, songs about what happened every day to the kids growing up in the streets.
What I have to say about it is that I first encountered it in 1980 and for years I saw no point in getting any record released before it, until I discovered The Stoogies, MC5, 13th Floor Elevators, Elvis, Johnny Cash and Van der Graff Generator. You see this album wiped out a lot of peoples record...

Hey Ho, Let's Go
Review of Ramones, The (Remastered And Expanded) - Ramones by
El_Leon
Advantages: Blitzkrieg Bop, Beat on the Brat, Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue
Disadvantages: Some Of The Songs Are A Bit Samey
...While it would be nice to talk about the history of The Ramones and how much of an impact they had on the music scene in the 1970’s I, alas, was not alive to witness it and as such will skip straight on too the album itself and besides if you really need to more about The Ramones I’m pretty sure you’ll get your fill on wikipedia or such.
From the start the one thing you notice about the album is the sheer intensity of it all. Dee Dee with thundering bass line after bass line, Johnny’s energetic guitar play, the always uniquely infectious lyrics of Joey, only Tommy on drums seems to be in control with some nice steady drum beats. While they may never have been the greatest musicians that ever lived, they possessed something that few musician then or now have, a desire to make good music just for the sake of it.
The original...

Two Thousand Two Hundered and 63rd
Review of We're Outta Here (The Ramones' Last Show) - Ramones by
Champ666
Advantages: One For the Fans Only
Disadvantages: One For The Fans Only
...Finally on the 6th August 1996 The Ramones farewell tour came to an end in L.A. This album was recorded at the final show. That was their 2,263rd show and considering the personal turmoil with in the band it was a miracle that they made it that far.
The line up of the band was Johnny (Guitar), Joey (Vocals), Marky (Drums) and C.J. (Bass and Vocals) with guest appearances by Dee Dee Ramone, Eddie Veeder (Pearl Jam), Lemmy (Motorhead), Tim Armstrong and Lars Fredrickson (Rancid).
Typically for a Ramones live album all the songs are played at breakneck speed with absolutely no pause for rest between the songs. Johnny is hammering down on his cheap Mosrite creatng that unique buzzsaw rhythm guitar sound, Marky is pounding out simple rhythms on his drums and C.J is complimenting with equally simple but horrendously effective bass lines...

Gabba Gabba Hey
Review of Ramones - End Of The Century (Wide Screen) by
bullybwoy
Advantages: Great documentary for a band who were so often overlooked by the industry
Disadvantages: Extras are a bit poor considering the wealth of footage at their disposal
...'End of the Centrury' is the long-awaited documentary detailing the career of the Ramones. I say long-awaited because due to legal issues regarding the archive footage on the film, interview release forms not being signed, and the film-makers' money problems during the making of the documentary, it very nearly didn't see the light of day. A tour of the various film festivals ensured that the word got around so that finally, legal issues and money problems ironed out, it saw the light of day in UK cinemas last year & came out on dvd sale & rental last week.
I have been reading Legs McNeil's oral history of punk rock, 'Please Kill Me' and its an excellent companion to this film because many of the characters within that book are documented here, and both the book and this film give you the background as to how the Ramones came about...
