...This is the first 4x4 I have owned. The other cars on my drive are Japanese import sports cars which are low and very very fast. This is to some extent the complete opposite but is a wonderful experience. Our car was delivered in shining black with a black leather interior with .4 of a mile on the clock. Looks The car looks bigger than it actually is. It has a strong resemblance to its Range Rover big brother. It is lengthwise about the same size as the car it replaces for us, a Peugeot 407. But its height and rugged looks make it look a far bigger proposition though. The car has some tasteful silver coloured vents and trim which break up the all black look along with some tasty 19" alloys. Interior The interior is superb. Comfortable seats adjust to fit all sizes and have enough support to stop you getting back ache...

RANGE ROVER 4.4 VOGUE New Model - Nearest Category

Advantages: Unique driving experience. Superbly comfortable for passengers.
Disadvantages: Only for the wealthy!

...However you view huge 4x4 or 'off-road' cars, personally I am withholding judgement at this stage; there is no denying that the Land Rover badge and indeed range offers the very pinnacle in off road technology. Of them all, undoubtedly the Range Rover has always been 'king of the hill' in more ways than one! Until very recently I had never driven an off-reader, and then like the proverbial number 9 bus several of them all come along at once. This was actually very useful, as to drive them all back to back, on the same day over exactly the same roads you are able to make direct comparisons, impossible to do under any other circumstances. The first was VW's Touareg, you may already have read my review on that, the second was the phenomenally popular Volvo XC90, which I will review shortly, and then this, the range topping, Range Rover 4...

2009 Range Rover Sport..a british beauty !

Advantages: 3 years running this car has had the No 1 residual value of any SUV...
Disadvantages: comes across as over-boxy styling

...The car being reviewed here is the 200 Land Rover Sport 4.4L V8 6-speed auto. This vehicle comes from the original range rover. It's a much sleeker and paired down version of the classic Range Rover when it was first produced in 1970. Now the story of the Range Rover and me are synonymous I learned off-road driving in this vehicle. It was the very first vehicle I got to drive through the Farm in the mud with, so I already have a great love for the Range Rover. First of all let's take a look at what powers-this-beast. The powerplant is a 4.4L with 300hp on this model. There is also an optional supercharger with 390 hp..so quite powerful nuff said. On the supercharged version there are some wonderful and very new innovative features derived from race car driving...for example when your downshifting manually for the engine to match...

Range Rover Vogue TDV8 review

Advantages: Great offroad, luxurious, spacious
Disadvantages: Too big for some, would prefere more rear leg room

...The car I will be reviewing is an 08 plate Range Rover Vogue SE that cost in excess of £80,000 back in May, and is now (due to the credit crunch) worth significantly less. Let's start with the stylish. This form of RR has been around since 2002, but despite that it still looks relatively modern. I think it's time for Land Rover to update it soon, though, as I'm a bit bored with the look. It's got a lot of road presence (mainly because it's so big). The interior is a great place to be. You have to climb into it (as it's so high off the ground), and once you're in your cosseted by large leather seats, and a great looking dash. There's wood and leather all around, and a lovely touch screen sat nav. The rear has a decent amount of legroom, and would be comfortable for a 6 footer to spend a long time. LR don't do a LWB version...

VW's Range Rover?

Advantages: Very fast, flexible and refined
Disadvantages: Compromised ride and handling. Grey interior

...extravagant a means of transport bearing in mind its seriously flawed dynamics. A little later in the day we had the opportunity to drive a Range Rover 4.4 V8 Vogue. At £62,000 it is a little more expensive, but hey at this level what's an extra couple of grand? No, the point is it was so vastly superior in the handling and ride departments, that it was in a different league altogether. No I could not recommend the Volkswagen Touareg, at least not in the V10 diesel version I drove. Not being experienced with off-roaders, this one would lead me to shun the breed as a high mileage driver. With a Porsche badge on it, it is obviously the ultimate school run car though....

Land rover Discovery TD5

Advantages: 4 wheel drive with lowering prices
Disadvantages: A little soft on cornering

...If you have the money to spare and are looking for a car that has Looks - Style - Comfort - Reliability and a real name that's had a good following over the years, I would highly recommend the Land rover Discovery. The biggest asset at the moment is that the price throughout the range has been reduced dramatically due to the recent changes in importation and dealership, and if you shop around you really can pick up an excellent deal, Even Secondhand. With the TD5 ( Turbo Diesel ), you get real quality even with the earlier models. The only drawback with the earlier ones is that the ride tends to be a bit bumpy, but having said that the early models are more economical to run in general averaging 30 - 35 MPG. The more recent models ( I.E 1997 Onward ) usually run at around 25 - 30 MPG, But obviously they are much more luxurious...

Land Rover Discovery 2.5TDi 2003

Advantages: Built like a brick **** house
Disadvantages: Badly designed instrument layout

...I have owned a Discovery 2.5TDi from new since 2003 and consider now that I have enough experience to comment fairly on it. Good points 1. Excellent work horse. Can tow all day without noticing the load 2. Very comfortable and excellent seat movement 3. Makes you feel safe and secure Bad points 1. Very poorly designed dashboard layout. Most displays hidden by the steering wheel 2. Very badly positioned switches for electronic seat controls. You have to have needle thin hands and be a contortionist to use them 3. Poor electrics (especially the sun roof which has a mind of its own). and the worlds worst SAT Nav. You can buy a top of the range Garmin for less than the disc upgrade. Despite this we love it warts and all....

A Land Rover with the manners of an executive car.

Advantages: Exceptional towing vehicle, comfortable & reliable
Disadvantages: Quite sluggish

...I have owned many large, spacious and comfortable vehicles; both 4x4s and cars (Mitsibishi Shoguns, Mercedes...). However, now on my second Discovery (a '52 Reg' TD5 GS) I can safely say that the Land Rover has blitzed the others. It offers a unique blend of ruggedness and comfort without sacrificing luxury. When I bought my first Discovery, again a TD5 back in 2000, friends of mine were sceptical of my choice of Diesel over the V8 petrol. However, when they experienced the smoothness and adequacy of the Turbocharged 5-cylinder unit they quickly congratulated me on my choice. Also in terms of MPG the TD5 offers around 25-30 compared to the horrific consumption of the V8. Indeed it is the coupling of the engine and drivetrain which ultimately makes the Disco TD5, the abundance of torque is after all fundamental to any 4x4 especially...

Who wouldn't you want a Land Rover Discovery?

Advantages: Good driving position, reliability, capacity
Disadvantages: MPG, rust, gearbox

...I recently bought a 1990 (G) 2.5TDI Land Rover Discovery and have been really impressed with the overall package so far. First of all the driving position is fantastic, you cannot get any better than being up high and being able to see everywhere, the 360 degree visiblity is also very good. The only part that is difficult is getting used to how they steer, the linkages are different to most cars so you can't make frequent, tiny adjustments or you can get a small wobble on. However drive one for an hour and you will master this. Don't go on a motorway straight away like me and then learn there! My Disco has done 140, 000 miles, the inside of the car isn't fantastic but it is still clean and once I'd polished it up it looks suprisingly good. The outside has minor marks such as paint bubbles on the rear arches but this is...
