The Sherwood RD6103 - A Real Bargain!

Advantages: Loud, Great Sound Quality, Lots Of Control, Cheap!

At first, I must say I wasn't particularly impressed. With only 65 watts of power per channel and no 6.1 or 7.1 support, I was sceptical to say the least. Anyway, as I was on a strict budget and the RD6103 did seem a good buy, I went to a local Hi-Fi dealer to try one out. I was not expecting what I saw! ...The Toshiba RD88DTKB is a good looking unit and does almost everything I want. It is connected to an old TV via Scart so cant comment on HDMI functionality. HDD/DVD dubbing works well. Pausing of live TV is good. The unit is let down by its EPG guide. This covers 95% of the screen and so its difficult to see the background programme. Where the unit loses most of its stars is in the way the EPG is used. When browsing via the EPG the TV channel in the background changes to what you select on the EPG. When you have found the channel you want to watch you can press OK and this takes you to the recording timer page. If you dont want to record but watch instead you must press GUIDE this removes the EPG screen and the channel immediately reverts back to the channel you were watching in the first place. in other words you use the guide...

Advantages: Lovely shape, lasts a long time and good quality sound

...I've never used this iPod to watch video but I've seen other people with the same model - some had full-length movies on theirs! - and it looks great. I've never had any problems at all with my iPod and I've had it for over a year, I think. I'd advise keeping it in a case or sock of some sort because it can get scratched pretty easily - nonetheless I still prefer the 3rd gen to the new Chromatic 4th series, which looks like the older nano versions to me. The games included are fun although granted I hardly see myself playing them... Overall I think the 3rd gen iPod nano is a good buy, and if you can get your hands on one, make sure you do!...
