This review will be focusing on the Financial Services side of the recuritment as this was the field I was working in at the time. Advantages: Employers prefer them
Disadvantages: They lie

...revenue. So don't expect agencies to exert themselves for you, unless you want to be a temp. And not even then, unless they can place you swiftly. They work for their clients, not for you, and nothing at all wrong with that, provided you understand that going in ; but most first-time users don't. A way to get good service is to try and charm your contact. Premier tried really hard for me in 1999, because the consultant allocated to me used to work for me, fleetingly, in the late nineties, and she felt a sense of obligation, I think. It didn't survive my second rejection, but she did try, and unless you can get your consultant to care about you, you remain fodder. Advantages: decent story

...I genuinely enjoyed this movie, and still do whenever I watch it. Colin Farrell is the obvious eye candy for the movie, there was a spate of movies that he was in as the good looking charming good guy with a rough attitude, and he does play these charater types well, therefore I really dont have any complaints about his performance (accent possibly a little dodgy at times Colin?) other than the fact that Im not too sure if I wouldn't notice him walking down the street no matter how discreet he was trying to be. I had a friend who was not accepted into an intellegence agency (honestly, not as cool as it sounds) cos he is too tall at 6'3 and wears glasses. Advantages: interesting and riveting
Disadvantages: has some explicit content later on in the book

...The recruit is a good book with an interesting storyline. The characters are unfortunately mostly mainstream, but the action is suspenseful and there are interesting twists in the plot. Another good thing is that the series is pretty long, so if you like it you can buy the next few as well. Parts later in the series are slightly explicit, so I would not reccommend this book for younger readers. The story in The Recruit is about James Adams, who is sent to an orphanage after his mother, an infamous shoplifting coordinator, has a seizure and dies. ...I use various websites to keep up to date with vacancies and wage brackets. So when I saw this one on Ciao I though I would give it a go. It is not actually a vacancy search website as you might imagine, but a data base of recruitment agencies and specialist. Saying that it's still pretty good. It has lists of websites for unusual recruitment sectors, and is broken down, so you do not have to work your way through hundreds of website that have no relevance. It also has a section for overseas work, graduate schemes and specialists. It is easily navigated and is clean (as in it doesn't have pop ups etc) plain and simple to use. Recruitment agencies, be careful

Advantages: Good agencies are worth their weight in gold.
Disadvantages: Bad agencies can mess up your career.

...I'm sure that this is entirely the wrong category for this, but here is my experience of recruitment and contract consultancies. 80% of them are good, 20% are cowboys. The latter can really mess you up and the former sometimes swap CVs with the latter. The logic is something like this, a reputable agency has your CV for about six months. If you haven't updated it, they won't use it any more (excellent) so they sell it on to people who aren't so fussy.
