Campanile Bargain!

Advantages: Very cheap and clean
Disadvantages: None

...We decided to go away somewhere (not too far) for a week and found we could stop at the Campanile in Redditch for £90 for 4 nights, bargain! We didn't expect much for our money and when we got there we were told out room wasn't quite ready but much to our suprise we were offered free drinks at the bar while we waited and it was free for our dogs to stay with us too! The room inside was very clean and tidy. We discovered on the second day that we could get wireless internet in our room. The room was tidied and restocked for us every day. The local area was also very good for walking the dogs. All in all the price we payed was an absolute bargain, ok it's not the ritz but for £90 for 4 nights it was brilliant, so much so we've stayed their twice....

Review of Campanile Redditch, Redditch

They used to be good.

Advantages: well, they were good once
Disadvantages: poor service, unreliable, poorly trained staff, little customer care, time wasting.

...I shall share with you the saga of my relationship with Lloyds, a tale largely of woe and irritation these days.... I opened an account with Lloyds many years ago, before they merged with TSB. Back in the good old days, they offered a really good service, they were helpful, and I felt like a valued customer. When I started at Uni, I switched to their student account, they gave me a free railcard, and I was a hppay little bunny. After finishing my degree, I moved to sunny Redditch, and the merge hapened. At this point everything went down hill. In Redditch, the TSB closed, and all of its customers started using Lloyds, which isn't big enough to cope. The queues are terrible. Prior to the merge, I had always got on very nicely with Lloyds - cheque books turned up on time, queries were answered. Once in Redditch, I opened a business...

...My expereinces of Wilkinsons' shops are limited to Redditch and Cheltenham, but if these are reasonably typical, then they are a shop worth venturing into. Wilkinsons are in the cheap and cheerful end of the market - comparable in many ways to the likes of Pound Stretcher. However, where most bargin shops offer goods of dubious quality, Wilkinson offers a significant number of recognisable brands at low prices, and an own brand range of quite respectable quality. Range of products: That I have seen - household ware, baby bedding, toiletries, gardening stuff, wicker baskets, clothes, furniture, glassware, paints, wallpaper, toys, ornaments - they don't do much in the way of food, but in terms of hosuehold items, they do almost anything you can think of. Precise contents of the shop do seem to vary, so if you see something you like...

Prime Trash (Primark)

Advantages: Cheap, up to date fashion.
Disadvantages: Poor quality, child labour accusations, pandemonium in store!

Primark has completely changed the place - everyone is suddenly desperately fashionable, and everywhere you look there are people, young and old, lugging huge brown paper bags full of cheap spoils. There are no large towns or cities that are safe from the Primark disease. I think my problem with this is the lack of a true challenge to their bargain-basement monopoly. There are cheap clothing shops (Peacocks, for instance) but few are as up to the minute in terms of fashion, and the same goes for cut price shoe shops like Deuchmann Shoes and Shoe zone. Primark still reigns supreme as a store that is INFAMOUSLY and unashamably cheap. Inherently, the final point is my main problem with Primark. If they can do it...

...but in practise? Hmmm. I think it all went wrong when they removed the parcel bit from the rest of the Post Office. At least then the organisation you gave your object and cash to was going to be the one you needed to complain to if/when things went wrong. OK, the theory then. Parcel Force deliver your parcels within the week. If you aren't in, they put a card through your door saying they've been and you weren't there, and offering solutions - pick up the thing from your local depot, get it delivered to your nearest post office, phone up and arrange another time. All sounds very civilized, doesn't it? The Practise: Pick up the thing from your local depot. This would be fine is the depot was indeed local, but the odds are good that it won't be. I live in Redditch, the depot is in Worcester, which is a logn hike without a car...

A day in the life of ME

...I day in my life depending whether it's a school day or not so I'm going to do a day in average my week end. Enjoy! For a basic round up of my day then I'll go into more detail. I normally wake up at 8 am then lie in watching GMT, then get up when it ends and I come straight onto my PS2 and PC. Check and see if you lot have read any of my reviews, chat to my friends on MSN. Then around 10 am my mate jack comes round we go to Stratford or Redditch and hang round like normal teenagers then when we get back we go down to our 'den' then just hang there for about an hour then come home and play on my computers. GMT tends to be toonattic, which consists of a number of cartoons including recess, yugi-oh and the usual kiddies programs. I searched for all the people I knew and they were there all be it some at the wrong address because the electrol regisster is last years. The interesting thing that I found was that you can, with a little time and intelligence track people down with very little detail. I was looking for someone called Tracy in Redditch, I knew nothing other than her mother was called Edna. I did a search on the two names then cross referenced the addresses until I got a match. Bingo. I must admit that I would not have been so lucky with two more common names but it was interesting. It offers extra search facilites if you want to pay for the service. ...designed and built by one of the oldest tackle manufacturer's in the business - The Shakespeare company was founded in the United States in 1897 (109 years ago), and the British operation became the Shakespeare UK operation around 1965 (41 yrs ago) when they bought a company called "TOPP TACKLE", which apparently included the manufacturing operations of 2 even older tackle companies. One of them being "S Allcock & Co. Ltd" of Redditch in Worcestershire, whose origins go back as far as 1880 (that's 126years ago, to save you having to work it out)...... so, with that kind of experience behind them, you could say they know a thing or two about making fishing tackle. If you've never tried fly fishing before, it's worth a go as it's bloody good fun once you've got the hang of casting (only took me about an hour or two of practising...
