Advantages: more films, quicker, cheaper
Disadvantages: hassle to sort out multiregion capabilities (sometimes)

...If you have got, or are thinking of buying, a DVD player, then no doubt you will have a fair picture of what I am talking about when I mention Region 1 and Region 2. Because of stupid copyright and distribution laws and policies, when a film is released on DVD, it is coded so that it will only work in one of six worldwide regions. The ones that most come into play are Region 1 (USA) and Region 2 (Europe and Asia, including the UK of course). So if you went into a shop and bought a DVD player, you could then only purchase films from Britain, else they simply wouldn't work on your player. NCIS - Season 1 DVD - Region 2 version

Advantages: Fast paced action with liberal doses of humour
Disadvantages: No extras on the region 2 version, boo...

Region 1 DVDs - Cheap As Well

Advantages: Region 1 DVD's, great prices and a very easy to use site.
Disadvantages: Email response is slow, not as big a stock list as some places.

...Since I got my first DVD player, I was looking for somewhere that sold Region 1 (US) Discs. My reason was that my player was apparently multi region, and I wanted to try it out. Advantages: great movie, great plot, all the greatness!

Advantages: Cheap DVD's, no delivery charge, Region 1 and 2.

...dvdmod.com is a great site for buying region 1 DVD films. Region 1 disks are from America which means they are cheaper and new films are released several months before they are released here in England. So you can watch films on DVD almost the same time as they are on in the cinema. You need to make sure you have a DVD player capable fo playing region 1 disks, as they will not work in normal DVD players. The web sire offers search facilities by title and actor, and gives a summary of each title. It is also useful in telling you what additional features are on each disk. You do have to pay for postage, but it is not musch and you will find that the prices for American discs are nearly always cheaper than British versions, as well as containing more extra features. I found all the major titles were around 25% off the high street price (and even other online retailers such as dvdstreet) For example: Any James Bond special edition DVD - £14.99, in WHSmith - £16.99. Gladiator and Fight club, both bursting with extras, and on two discs were £17.99 yet in HMV Fight club is £24.99. Now is that a bargin or what? Play247.com contain all the titles you would expect to find in your local high street retailer and they also have a very large stock of region 1 dvd's such as "Road Trip", "Seven Platinum edition" and "Meet the Parents".
