Nikon D80 DSLR + 18-135mm Nikkor lens

Advantages: perfect grip, large prismatic viewfinder
Disadvantages: doesn't have internal memory

... Nikon D80 My first real DSLR camera, which I have become addict to even if it requires me to learn a lot and keep challenging myself into operating it better and better ammoed with knowledge. It had been my dream to own a SLR camera, I've always had a passion for the big cameras and I was jealous of the pro photographers and the pictures they got. When I was little, my parents had an old Czech-made camera including all the stuff you need to develop the pictures yourself at home and so we were always full of photographs of me and my brother, that's where I started to love the stuff. Unfortunately the old equipment doesn't work anymore and my first camera was a simple automatic one and even if I liked to take pictures, I soon found out how expensive it was to have them developed and to buy new and new films. Now, in the age...

Nikon D80 - Superb Prosumer DSLR

Advantages: Image quality and build quality
Disadvantages: Lots of noise at high ISO

...Background The Nikon D80 is Nikon's attempt to get back into the Prosumer market after the D70 & D70s were getting a bit long in the tooth. What they have cleverly done is take all the decent features from their D200 (which has recently been replaced by the D300) and mix it together with elements of the D50 to create an affordable camera for hobbyists who wish to take photography to the next level. What's in the box The list below is from a 'Body Only' package as I was upgrading from a D50 to D80 and already have lenses which come on offer with the D80 kits. - D80 Body - EN-EL3e Battery - Mains Charger for the above battery type - Head Strap - USB Cable - Nikon PictureProject 1.7 CD-ROM - Nikon CaptureFX Trial CD-ROM - Various reading materials such as Manual, Warranty and Registration cards Overview As mentioned...

Nikon D80 - Digital SLR

Advantages: Quality Lenses, High level imaging, good all rounder as an SLR
Disadvantages: Heavy and large to handle.

... Nikon D80 Digital SLR As with my reviews, I will assume you will go to find the detailed technical specifications of the camera from a dedicated site, and are relying on a 'real life' and 'lived with it' opinion. Please refer to Nikon.com for detailed specs. The D80 is somewhere between a consumer and professional range of camera. Typically you are getting the technology that was utilised on the professional D200 camera on a mid-range camera today. This is part of the inevitable technological advances, where today's top of the range options become tomorrow's bread and butter. The 10.2 Megapixel sensor means that you can generally enlarge pictures to over A3 size, without worrying about quality loss. What is an SLR? Are not all digital cameras the same? The camera is an SLR (Single Lens Reflex). This uses...

Nikon D80

Advantages: Many settings are adjustable by easy to reach dials and buttons
Disadvantages: It is necessary to purchase a memory card seperately

...I purchased this camera in April, 2008, and I am glad I did ! I purchased a 'kit' package which included the D80 body and a 18 - 135 mm AL lense. The kit does not come with a memory card which has to be purchased seperately. After charging the battery I had the camera functioning in a matter of seconds. It is almost instantaneously ready for use when you switch it on which is excellent. With it switched to auto mode it functions just like a point and shoot camera - just depress the shutter button halfway, wait for the autofocus to happen ( normally a second or less ) then click ! But it is far more than a point and shoot camera - there are a multitude of settings that can be user defined ensuring that the the camera can be used by a novice to the experienced digital photographer. Books are written on this and there is not...

Nikon D80 review

Advantages: High quality sensor, fast, responsive, it's a Nikon!
Disadvantages: Erratic light meter

...This is my first Digital SLR camera and have found it to be very good overall. The 10.2 megapixel sensor records very fine pictures especially when set to 100 ISO. Noise or grain gets quite noticeable when set to 800 ISO and above but still usable up to 1600. The D80 is fast and responsive and has Shutter priority, Aperture priority, Manual and loads of Program modes which I never use. The viewfinder is bright and clear and the playback screen is very good. The minor drawbacks are: 1.Erratic light meter, but easy to compensate. 2. No ISO reading in viewfinder. Easy to forget to change to desired ISO. 3. I often change between single frame, multi frame and self timer and find this button awkward 'cos it is recessed. 4. Only 95% viewfinder coverage....

Nikon D80 - Digital SLR Camera - Money well spent.

Advantages: Range of Nikon "F" lenses, Great picture quality, Endless amount of features!!!
Disadvantages: Price!

...2 1/2 years ago Nikon announced the six megapixel D70, their first affordable enthusiasts digital SLR, it proved to be a very popular camera and strong competitor to the Canon EOS 300D. Just a year and 1/2 later Nikon revealed the D70s which was essentially the same camera with a some subtle tweaks (improved AF, wider flash coverage, higher capacity battery, larger LCD monitor). And so just over 1 year on from the D70s Nikon present the latest incarnation of their 'enthusiasts' digital SLR line, the ten megapixel D80. This is how companies get you in the net - bring out a product costing £750 and then release a new model in 12 months time costing the same - you then kick yourself wishing you'd waited and like some people wanting the best, they sell thier old model for £400 and buy the new model. Now thinking they have the best...

The d80 - getting old but a good camera for competitive price

Advantages: low price, uses SD cards, not as heavy as the higher end dslrs, shoots RAW, inbuilt flash
Disadvantages: noisy at high ISO's/low light conditions

...The nikon d80 is a few years old now and has been replaced by a newer model (the d90). As such it is possible to get a d80 for a very competitive price whilst still maintaining the image quality you desire and expect from a dslr. While the d80 is not a 'top of the range' dslr, and was never designed to be, it is none the less excellent at what it does - the image quality is, generally speaking, very good although in low light conditions images are a little noisier than may be desired when upping the ISO to avoid the use of flash. The d80 also provides the ability to shoot in a number of jpeg quality settings as well as NEF (nikons version of RAW) or NEF+ jpeg fine, which gives the user great versatility. The d80 comes with a built in flash - while not the most powerful of flashes it does have its uses and is something that higher end...

A D200 squeezed into a D70 body

Advantages: viewfinder, resolution, lcd, menu system, build, professional, responsive, metering, battery, d-lighting, AF, ergonomics
Disadvantages: dslr dust(?), kit lens CA, incandescent white bal, price, expensive RAW software extra.

.... Again, as it uses the same sensor as the d200, images are large, sharp, and crisp. With 10mp, more operator errors (hand-shake, movement etc) will be visible with the increased resolution, but ultimately images are excellent. RAW provides finer detail to be captured (over jpeg use), but both formats give excellent images. Saturation, resolution, hue, brightness, exposure, sharpness - all are tuneable in the menus or via the buttons & control dials on the body. Metering has been tuned further, using the newer 'II' system from Nikon's range. This gives spot-on colour balance, sharp, contrast-y images with lots of room for post-processing. Accurate is probably a good word to describe it here! I have yet to find a situation where the D80's metering has failed; it really is in a class of its own. The quality of your glass is now more likely...

Superb Digital SLR

Advantages: Great pictures, easy to use
Disadvantages: None that I've found yet

...I've owned the Nikon D80 for just over a year and I have to say, having been so reluctant to go digital for many years, it's probably the best thing I've ever bought. It's compact by DSLR standards and relatively easy to use, there is plenty of learning to do at first, but if you've owned a Nikon before (as I have) you shouldn't have any trouble getting to grips with it. Nikon are superb when it comes to quality cameras for a reasonable price. The quality of the pictures on this one is brilliant. There are several different modes, so you can either do everything yourself or let the camera do it all for you. It takes wonderful landscape shots and also, with the continuous shoot function, copes well with the sports shoots. It's so comfortable to use and responds superbly. If you already own a Nikon (even 35mm) your lenses will...

Sony DPF-D80 keeps memories fresh

Advantages: Sleek, stylish, non-offensive, overall a product which I really like.
