RENAULT LAGUNA MK2 1.9DCi

Advantages: 5* Safety rating many extras good mpg
Disadvantages: repair cost noisy plastic trim

...I bought my laguna back in 2007 from a secondhand dealer in Perterborough it came with a years MOT and had 63,000 on the clock and had previously been owned by two former keepers. So i parted with my £4,000 and off we went i noticed over the next few weeks that everytime i drove over a bump i heard a bang from the rear, so off i went to my local garage not Renaults and they said that my bushes on the back axle had gone and needed replacing at a cost of £200 the warranty with the car was for major engine parts so i had to get the wallet out. After 13 months the same thing happened again so i went to another garage and was quoted £188 fitted, apparently this is a common fault with this car and as i do 20-30,000 miles a year it looks like this will be an annual cost. Clio dci 65hp model dynamic.

Advantages: Cheap to run,quick (for what it is) safe, reliable.
Disadvantages: Deaderships issues lack of power.

...every 18k/2 years even if you change the oil at 9k. Pads would last at least 18k and at £17 from halfords (and there not the cheapest) and new disk at £60 again from halfords (agin not the cheapest supplier) and road fund at £50 for a year with the low insurance gorup its superb. The only issues regards the dci engine is the computer controlling it if you do have issues you need a Renault dealership often to fix it and the parts arn't cheap althouga nbraknd new ngine can be bought for £1.25k brand new crated up from specists. A big advanatge of the dci over its 1.2 engine car is the tunning potential 400 or so of custom remapping will see about 95hp (stock is more like 70hp not th 65 advertised) and with an intercooler (say £200) you can see 110hp....

Renault Laguna 1.9 dCi - The User's Review

...My parents have owned a Renault Laguna since 2004. We decided that since our accident, we would need a car with a very high safety standard. The Laguna ticked all of the boxes with its excellent five-star european safety rating and sufficient boot space. In general, the Laguna is a good drive which is very smooth and durable on lengthy journeys but there are some major problems. The main two problems that we have experienced is that the tyre sensors always break and we have to take it in to our local Renault garage for repair at £75 a time. We have now stopped going to the garage and just put up with the annoying unfixable sensors. The second problem is fixings within the car seem very cheap and can be removed very easily and many of the speaker covers etc. within our car are virtually hanging off. DCi 100 review

Advantages: power, economy, noise levels
Disadvantages: steering, damping

...I've had the Dci100 for 5 months and 11,000 miles nowand can describe it best as something of a curate's egg. The low/mid range performance is excellent. It has the same torque as my Clio 172 Cup and better low down pulling power. I wanted a group 5 insurance car for driving tuition with decent performance for advanced/high performance driving teaching. The 100 BHP diesel seemed perfect. It's quick, very economical (53mpg during lessons, over 70 if you cruise). It'll also do 100mph easy on the trips over in Europe I have done - just come back from Nurburgring. HOWEVER, the steering is awful. The electric rack is dreadful compared to the CUP's steering. The rear is under-damped, making it unsteady if you have to lift off in a turn -as some drivers have a tendancy to - and the reliability ain't so good. The rack makes an awful noise...

Advantages: good power nice drive and all round decent motor

...i bought a clio 1.5 dci 80 expression 5 door, i must say what a little car this is the engine the looks and the power it has for such a small engine is really good. i bought one with 40k on the clock with fsh and it runs like a dream no problems in the cold ever, it handles extremely well. i must say the rear seating room is not enough but it has a big boot so it kinda makes up for it. it has 60k on the clock now and still feels tight and firm every time i get ito the car u feel safe. i changed the stereo to a jvc head unit put some seat covers on the interior and looks the business now. was worth the money i spent only 5k for the car, but do need to be looked after as its a diesel, the turbo sounnds quiet good also with a whistle and a slight tttssss off the wastegate. all round good motor worth the money much recommended if...

Megane 1.5dci Dynamique (80)

Advantages: Economy, reliability, comfort
Disadvantages: small boot

...I've owned a 1.5DCI Dynamique from new (2004) and have covered 63,000 miles. Had a couple of minor things fixed under warranty, door handle paint and steering column knock(?), despite not buying the car from a Main Dealer they honoured warranty repairs. Cheap Road Tax, Car Insurance, comfortable, lots of toys and economical. The only unusual fault was an intermittent STOP / OIL indication, which lasted a day or two - suspected wet electrics when the car was serviced by a non-Renault garage. At the time I was a bit unnerved by the complexity of the electronic systems, 7 units talking hooked up to diagnostics, but it settled down. That was 6,000 miles ago though. Interestingly the stalling of the rear wash wipe (common) is a s/w fault, in my case I didn't bother mentioning this until the STOP light problem, but it could have beenfixed...

The Renault Laguna Estate, sorry, Sports Tourer

Advantages: Stylish, well equipped, technology laden car
Disadvantages: Not the most practical of estates and the engine is a little fussy

It's futuristic looks have divided opinion, but either way, the Vel Satis saloon is definately an interesting alternative to it's German rivals. A wacky new Megane, Scenic and Espace is set to be on sale next year and a Clio isn't far off. They are also returning to F1 next year and big things are expected. Renaults future has never been better. Renault Laguna a great family estate.

Advantages: A geat family car for those who dont want a people carrier
Disadvantages: Car key is a card pricy to replace

...I brought a Renault Laguna 1.9TD Sport Tourer In April of this year. I paid £2300 for an 03reg. You get a high quality car for a relativly small amount of money. The Sport Tourer comes with part leather interior, three 3 point seatbelts which is a must for anybody with children, a cd player, air con, Abs, 6 speed gears, heated front and rear windscreens and lots more. I have three young children and didn't want to purchase a people carrier instead I opted for this estate and so far have been extremely pleased with my purchase.It has a fantastically large boot which fits my double buggy in with ease and still has enough room for shopping.
