The Luxury model Renault 5

Advantages: Comfort and power
Disadvantages: Hard to find parts

...I purchased my 1.7 litre Renault 5 GTX two years ago for the grand sum of £100 and I can honestly say I have never spent so little on such a great car. The top-of-the-line model in Renault 5s, the GTX not only had the largest engine in any 5, but power steering, plush seats, electric windows, remote central locking, foglights, interior boot lights, intermitant wipers and body coloured bumpers. This was the third Renault 5 I had owned, including a GT Turbo, and the combination of comfort and smooth feeling of power was second to none. The torque and power (90BHP) was comparable to the GT turbo, and the slight reduction in kerb weight from the turbo model means the 0-60 time only seems very slightly slower. The Economy is pretty impressive too, I have calculated an average of 33MPG on a combination of urban and highway driving. I...

My renault 5 is brilliant

Advantages: look good, reliable, nipppy, stylish
Disadvantages: bad security

...I have had my renault 5 for a few months. I had it when I passed my test it was my Moms before and I can safely say renault 5 s are one o the best cars around. There has been 4 in my family and each car has been so reliable. My renault is an L reg and is in good condition. It always starts first time and never lets me down. Renaults are great for nipping into little spaces and although they are not power steering they are very light to handle. I think renaults also look very stylish with their curved lights which are very fashionable. ( just look at the new vauxhall corsa!) I have also found that Renault 5`s are also very good on fuel. My car rarely needs filling up and I drive a fair way. The only fault i can pick with the Renault is the lack of security. So it is best to have a steering wheel lock and /or hand brake lock...

Renault 5 GT Turbo

Advantages: Very fast
Disadvantages: Not that safe

...Hi to everyone! Myself I still have a Renault 5 GT Turbo or let's call it the Monster of the 1.400cc. This car is The ultimate car. I had a few problems with it thought but minor ones! Not big problems like others had with gearbox replaces, or turbo burnt out! etc. I have some problem with the alternator but it was easy to replace. There a lot of minuses on this car for instance if you get a problem on the starter motor you will need to take it to a garage to replace it and you will see that in order to replace your starter motor you will see your engine coming down too. It's very difficult to do it with aan easier way and that's due to that there is not much space in the engine! Engine is crowded. Car is fast as a plane but it drinks a lot of petrol too. About safety it's a bit difficult to say cause I never experienced a car accident...

1700cc GTX Looked Good But Still Tinny

Advantages: Luxurious ride. Unstressed 1.7 engine
Disadvantages: Tinny. CLUTCH CABLES!

...I had a three door 1.7 GTX R5 from new, this being my first new car. Ironically, my old warhorse MK1 Golf GTI had finally gone west ,and without a large deposit, a new car was the only one I could afford ( you know, £99 down etc.) Despite foreknowledge that Renault's build quality was suspect, the car never gave any problems in that direction. Having some aspirations to be top-of-the-range along with the GT Turbo, it felt OK, but this could have been down to better sound-proofing. Slamming the doors soon showed it up. The combination of small car with large engine was great (in straight lines, at least). I used to have great fun on motorways, after being flashed to get out of the way by some fat git in a Jag. I'd accelerate AND pull over and watch them wheeze past at about 1 mph more than me! In power to weight, it was about...

Age Will Wither It

Advantages: Versatile, economical car
Disadvantages: Rust, rust, rust

...There are not many Renault 6’s left on the roads nowadays which is a pity. The one we owned was a 1972 model finished in (very) pale blue. The car was a slightly larger, squarer version of the Renault 4. It had an 1108 cc engine but in its form did not push out much more than 50bhp. As the car was a five-door it was a little underpowered the car was at its best just pootling along. The 5-speed gearbox was connected by an umbrella type gear level which pushed through the centre of the dashboard at the top. This arrangement did not lend itself to quick changes up through the gears. The car also had a pull-out handbrake lever so there was nothing between the two front passenger seats which made it cosy in the lay-bys of life. The car was a budget car. Renault still continue their tradition for no-frills motors though their...

The Original Hot Hatch

Advantages: Goes like the wind. Fun to drive
Disadvantages: Poor reliability. Not practical (But still fun)

...~ ~ The Renault 5 “Gordini” Turbo was the predecessor to the highly rated and successful Renault 5 GT Turbo. This car was one of the very first hot hatches, and spawned such competitors as the Volkswagen Golf GTi and the Peugeot 205 Gti. I bought my “Gordini” in the late 1980’s. It was a 1984 model, and one owner, with average mileage. (about 50K, I think) Like a lot of the cars I have owned, this car was bought on impulse. I was indulging one of my hobbies, namely nosing around second hand car lots, when I spotted it sitting tucked away in a corner. It looked different to the standard models, which is what first caught my eye. ~ ~ A half-hour test drive later and I was smitten. This was/is a SERIOUSLY fast little car. It boasts a 1.4 Litre turbocharged engine, which when given its head, could compete...

Famous five

Advantages: Good cheap runabout.40mpg.wont be pinched with is now a consideration of mine.
Disadvantages: just passed crash tests.now getting on it age

...I bought this car after a friend lent me it for a bit to get me around after some little shite pinched my newly bought Fiesta about two weeks ago. Ive never had a Renault before but still found it to drive very well for a small dated small car. The cars a five door TR model in metallic blue with a 1237cc engine and five speed box...wow. The car drives fine, with good roadholding even in icy conditions. The steering, gearchange, clutch and brakes are all heavy, but do there job well in the end. The seats are comfortable with plenty of room to move about, even in the back with four adults in the car. I do find both the gear stick, and wiper controls to be weird. The gearstcik is about the size of a brick, but goes into gear nice and smoothly. If it had been a fiesta of the same age I would have been able to play noughts and cross...

Renault Warranties

Advantages: comfortable drivers seat
Disadvantages: its an off the road Renault literally !!!! no engine

...Hi Having bought a 'quality' used Renault Laguna from a Renault dealer with a 12 month Renault warranty, I was a bit surprised when after 1o months of use the engine seized, no problem I thought it'll be sorted out as its still with a warranty.. How wrong I was, despite the fact that I have looked after the car, depite the fact it was checked before I went on the journey despite the fact the I was driving in a proper manner and despite the fact that I am registered disbled and the car is also registered as being owned by a disabled person, predictably Renault didn't want to know They tried to fob me off with lame excuses like ... the dealer was a Franchise garage, well the car was second hand, er we don't issue the warranties its a private company..well hang on Renault...... I bought the car froma reputable Renault Dealer, it...

Renault Clio dCi Dynamique!!

Advantages: Very Economical and stylish
Disadvantages: None

...Wow!! What a excellent little car !? I have just passed my driving test, so after many months? if not years of scrimping and scraping so that I could save up for a car I went out and bought the first car that I like the look of. And I choose this beauty! (I know that was foolish as I should have done my research but that gut instinct was correct and I'm pleased with my choice.) The car I choose was a Renault Clio Dynamique (100) 1.5 dCi Its features: Standard Renault alloy wheels Remote central locking Powered steering Air bags ABS brakes Along with the standard spec of a Renault Clio but ? what sets the Dynamique version apart from others is its sports styling; It has 15-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, front foglamps and sports seats. Automatic headlamps and rain-sensing wipers as standard...

Sunwin Renault, Derby

Advantages: Large Showroom
Disadvantages: Managers are liars and threaten you, Valeters are incompetent, after sales are non-existent

...I have had three cars now from Sunwin Renault in Derby, the first arrived on time, looked excellent inside and out and I was happy with the service. The second arrived late with a large dent in the roof; this was repaired (poorly) by a contracted body shop and spent the next two months in and out of the body shop. Every time it came back the body shop had scratched another panel, not matched the colour or had blistered the paintwork in polishing. Eventually everything came back to my satisfaction and I was assured that the dealership would no longer be using that body shop, so I was happy with the outcome. I picked up my latest car last Thursday (18th September), the car arrived 3 weeks early so I went to see it at the dealer before my pickup date, everything looked immaculate. When I went to pick it up I didn't sign...
