my best car yet? The final chapter
Review of Renault Scenic II - 1.9DCi Privilege by
getscenic
Advantages: practical, reliable, good economy, good looking mid-mpv
Disadvantages: opening tailgate in wet weather water drips over you
...,500 rpm.
The first long journey was undertaken, and all was fine. The biggest difference you notice from the old model is how quite the car is, most noticeable at motorway speeds. This is mainly because of the extra gear; sixth gear at 80mph is about 2,750 rpm. It is one of a few cars that I can do 400 miles and not need a chiropractor the following morning. The sense of space adds to the relaxed drive.
The most interesting thing for me would be the fuel consumption compared to the old car, and with the new Scenic having 14bhp more, I did not expect to beat 55mpg on a run. It got close at 48.5mpg. As the car has more miles now I average 48-50mpg day to day, that's motorway and London traffic. The best has been 53mpg and the worst 44mpg. So all in all I am very pleased with the economy.
The insurance group is 6 and I pay £349 fully comp...

An excellent family car
Review of Renault Scénic 1.6 by
DaveA
Advantages: Insurance and running costs
Disadvantages: Acceleration
...If, like me, you have a family that includes 3 children, two of which are the size of an adult, I recommend the Scenic as your choice of family car.
I have owned one for 2 years, and have been very pleased, both with its comfort and with its reliability. The real bonus, as far as I am concerned, is the amount of space inside. There are “secret compartments” everywhere, so that the little extras you need when on holiday can be stowed safely away, keeping the inside less cluttered. I took mine right across Ireland in great comfort, despite the state of some of the roads.
So far, servicing has been very reasonable, with the first service costing me about £70 all in.
There is one thing it definitely is not, and that is sporty. Acceleration is very modest however, once you are up to cruising speed, it’s a very comfortable and quiet ride...

Megane 1.5dci Dynamique (80)
Review of Renault Megane 1.5 DCi by
talkintarn
Advantages: Economy, reliability, comfort
Disadvantages: small boot
...I've owned a 1.5DCI Dynamique from new (2004) and have covered 63,000 miles. Had a couple of minor things fixed under warranty, door handle paint and steering column knock(?), despite not buying the car from a Main Dealer they honoured warranty repairs. Cheap Road Tax, Car Insurance, comfortable, lots of toys and economical. The only unusual fault was an intermittent STOP / OIL indication, which lasted a day or two - suspected wet electrics when the car was serviced by a non-Renault garage. At the time I was a bit unnerved by the complexity of the electronic systems, 7 units talking hooked up to diagnostics, but it settled down. That was 6,000 miles ago though. Interestingly the stalling of the rear wash wipe (common) is a s/w fault, in my case I didn't bother mentioning this until the STOP light problem, but it could have beenfixed...

Renault Runaround.
Review of Renault Scénic 2.0 by
markd_uk
Advantages: Spacious, easy to drive, comfortable, 2 sunroofs
Disadvantages: Driving position, immobiliser, noisy engine
...carrier and looked at the Scenic.
The Scenic is classed by the industry as a mini-MPV, though insurance and registration documents class it as an estate car, but just like the Espace, with which Renault lead the way in large MPV vehicles in the mid-eighties and continue to do today, the Scenic was an innovation in design based on a hatchback car's floorpan.
The model we chose was the 2litre RXE with an automatic gearbox, on an R-plate; in 1997/98 this was the top of the range model available on the market and the specification list was quite impressive: twin electric sunroofs, electric windows all-round, electric heated mirrors, power steering, driver & passenger airbags, steering-mounted radio controls and air conditioning made up a list that ticked every box on our wishlist except a CD player. We asked Renault to fit one and paid an extra...

The Marmite Motor
Review of Renault Scenic II 1.5 DCI by
markd_uk
Advantages: Affordable, competent, advanced, family car
Disadvantages: Central-mounted dashboard, basic trim
...--
Before I go any further, it's important to point out that this review is for the Authentique trim version of the car with the 1.6 litre 115bhp VVT engine. Ciao have only got the 1.5 DCi engine listed and for the life of me I could not get the site to allow me to suggest a product; however, engine aside the review is for pretty much the same car.
--
Renault have long been the pioneers of "people carrier" transport, stealing a march on the competition in the mid-eightees with their innovative Espace, which is still arguably the best MPV around, and then - as the competitors caught up with the French manufacturer's flagship people carrier, they caught everybody by surprise and launched the Scenic, a mini-MPV based on the successful Megane chassis.
As time has moved on, so has the competition and everybody from Citroen to Seat, Ford...

Great Wee Car
Review of Rover 111 by
SgtZara
Advantages: Good MPG/Cheap Insurance/Cheap To Buy/Low Tax
Disadvantages: Image
...Had a Renault 19RNi before I switched to the Rover 111Si to take advantage of the lower group insurance as I added the Misus who just passed her test to the insurance.
The Rover is Group 3 insurance compared to Group 8 for the Renault.
Bought the 1995 model Rover 111 Si for £770 with only 39,000 miles on the clock.
Averages 41mpg on a mixture of roads and 49mpg on motorways.
Good features are sunroof, colour coded bumpers, alarm and immoboliser.
It doesn't have power steering but then, being a light car doesn't really need it.
Reliability is great, always starts first time.
I'm 6ft tall and have the seat as far back as it will go. I would imagine anyone taller than me would have their knees banging against the wheel.
Space behind the driver is poor with the seat so far back and is only really suitable for a child in that instance...

1 car suits everyone
Review of Renault [TV Advertisement] by
jenny_carr
Advantages: Nice, pleasant advert
Disadvantages: songs get stuck in your head!
...The lastest Renault Scenic advertisment on TV is the adevert where there are 4 different groups of people and they all all driving along somewhere and they are all singing.
The first appearance of the car is with the first family. They are going on holiday and it looks to me that they are a 'geeky' family because they are all wearing the same clothes and they all singing "We're all going on a summer holiday" (the theme song from Summer Holiday obvouisly). They are driving out in the countryside all merryily and happily.
Then the next car has two people in and two dummies. They are singing the Queen song, "Will not let you go". It is quite powerful and I really don't understand why dummies are featuring in this advert! They are dressed up all posh and it looks like they are the ones who are singing.
The next group of people...

Renault Scenic - the MPV to buy!
Review of Renault Scénic 1.9 dTi by
loveshaque
Advantages: Fuel Consumption, Comfort, Ride Height, space.
Disadvantages: Cornering in wet
...Although devoted BMW drivers my wife and I decided that with two growing children the boot was no use, the family trips, maintenance cost a fortune, it was very cramped for four and a full load, shopping limited to at least 6 bags.
On researching MPV's being bigger we assumed that a diesel was the answer as the fuel consumption for a petrol MPV was just about the same as the BMW. Drove the Renault Scenic 1.9DTi and the Citroen Xsara Picasso as they both appealed to us. In short Scenic won over size comfort looks parking ability and fuel consumption. The double sunroofs are a boon and as they are electric at the flick of a button they can be opened ajar or fully - great for the kids and they were speechless the first time they were opened. Storage in "cubby-holes" is immense. Under the rear passengers foot wells, under their seats also...

Move over Tiff Needel
Review of carsurvey.org by
FrooTee
Advantages: Very useful
Disadvantages: None

The above has proved an extremely useful site in my continuing quest for find a new car * sigh * :( I’m getting VERY bored but at the same time knowledgeable about many makes of car – I think I could confidently apply for a job on Top Gear or whatever it’s called these days. I’d certainly give Tiff Needel a run for his money; and I have a NORMAL name??!! ;o)
CRACKING ON ...
On a recent fact-finding mission I came across the above site on AOL search and here’s my opinion.
Having decided on a few models I liked; Renault Megan Scenic & Toyota Previa, I have been scouring the net and press to glean as much info about these cars as is humanly...

Thanks for your help A J Insurance
Review of A.J.Insurance Group by
sith76
Advantages: Covered my car when no other insurer would
Disadvantages: Relatively expensive as such a limited market
...When I returned to the UK from a 2 year work contract in France I brought home with me a Renault Clio 1.2 RT (left hand drive) which I'd bought and insured in France. I had not anticipated how difficult it would be to insure and register the car in the UK. First I approached the DVLA-they couldn't register the car without proof of UK insurance-the French policy I had would not do! So I started ringing round all the usual suspects for quotes-only to find that none of them would insure my car until it was registered in the UK. Hours of giving the same details over and over again only to be told at the last knockings they couldn't insure my car. Hang on-can't register it without insurance-can't insure it until it's registered ??? Aaarrrgghh!! I found my way to the British Insurance Brokers Association, who recommended me to a broker called...
