The fourth republic
Advantages: Nice thought, and a good place in which to think it
Disadvantages: Not much to see, except perhaps on April 1st
...People in Britain tend to think of the three ex-Soviet Baltic republics, if they think of them at all, as a uniform group and to assume they're much of a muchness. I have to admit that before I went to the region I rather shared that assumption.
Once there, one learns a bit about their individual histories and ethnicities, and observes their differing national characters. The Estonians are polite and efficient, but perhaps somewhat stolid. The Latvians are brisker, sharper and less forthcoming; compared to Tallinn, Riga has an edgy feel. And the Lithuanians? They are sometimes described as the Italians of the region, though I'm not sure that quite does them - or the Italians - justice. But they do seem more easy-going than their neighbours, and there is an offbeat, unconventional side to their nature. Why else would...

The Heroes are here!
Advantages: Great Great Great!
Disadvantages: having to wait for series 4.
...Heroes is American series about a group of normal people with supernatural powers, no two people have the same ability and now all abilities are good.
We have had 3 seasons here in the UK and although it lost its way with the writers strike in Season 2, series 3 was just as brilliant as the first. You really do need to concentrate to see all the twists and turns in the third series but it is definitely work an hour of your undivided attention.
Not all characters have abilities and not all of these with abilities (good or bad) used them to help people.
There are a lot of special effects in the show and the heroes are constantly saving the world, which makes exciting viewing.
I enjoy the way that all of the characters are interlinked, which becomes more apparent as the show continues. New characters are constantly being introduced...

Real HEROES
Advantages: Excellent couragious stories, raising awareness of the charity
Disadvantages: May be hard reading for some
...?Today the word ?hero? is too often used; for me it is a very special word and should be used sparingly: a hero is someone distinguished by exceptional courage, nobility and fortitude. This wonderful book by Gill Shaw is to raise funds for just such men and women injured in the line of duty whilst serving our country - REAL heroes? Ross Kemp, Patron of Help for Heroes.
This book came to my attention when I was looking on the Help For Heroes charity website in their shop. I am a supporter of the charity as my husband is a soldier and so too are my brother and his wife. For me it is a wonderful charity which is dong so much for our injured soldiers and personally I think it is the only way people are finding out the true extent as to what some men and woman are going through to fight for this country.
The book is a paperback...

Review - The HTC Hero
Advantages: Too many to list in this small space...
Disadvantages: A little sluggish
... The HTC Hero
I test and review a lot of mobile phones, but in a mobile phone market dominated by Apple, Blackberry, Samsung and Nokia, I can't help but have a soft spot for HTC; I think it is a British thing, a love for the underdog? But as much as I admire HTC, I can't help but worry that in trying to take on competitors like the iPhone their new HTC Hero is punching above its weight. So I turned it on to find out?
Appearance
When I was told that I was finally going to get my hands on HTC's latest handset, I thought I'd better do a bit of research? but when saw the publicity pictures I feared the worst? It looked a lot like its predecessor the T-Mobile G1, with that Jimmy Hill like chin. This was a bad start for me; I love the design of all of HTC's handsets, except one? the T-Mobile G1, so I wasn't expecting...

HTC Hero To The Rescue
Advantages: Well made, interface is surprisingly good, Android apps are excellent
Disadvantages: Battery life could be better, no bluetooth data transfer capability
...available on Orange.
The choices were limited and having sustained a poor Blackberry experience for 18 months I was keen to explore new avenues. Luckily the HTC Hero presented itself to me as a viable option and despite having seen the television advertising campaign a couple of months prior and mocking it's cringe worthy 'Hero' branding I still took the plunge as it posed the most impressive package from the choices available to me.
Out of the box:
At this time I was still adamant that I wanted and IPhone and realised that the HTC Hero was easily fetching £300 on auction sites. I thought to myself "as soon as I take it out of the box I'll know whether to keep it or sell it for an IPhone". Indeed as I removed it from the box I immediately noticed how well built the phone is. It's of reassuring weight and the teflon finish of the Graphite...

Republic of quality clothing.
Advantages: nice variety of quality clothes and mega fast delivery.
Disadvantages: Some of the clothes are too expensive
...with paypal. I don't mind using a credit card, but it is so much quicker than entering all your details and numbers. You can also pay with a card if you prefer or if you don't have paypal, but I do recommend that you get it.
The dress came just two days after she bought it which I thought was nice and fast. The packaging had republic on it so I knew what it was and the dress was lovely. I am very pleased with the quality of their clothing and their speedy delivery. I also recieved an email-reciept and they told me when the order had been dispatched so they really do have great communication skills so you always know what is happening. The dress wasn't creased and she put it on straight away because they had folded it nicely with her reciept in the bag.
Overall, I'm very, very pleased with the service and communication of this shop, it is really...

Holding onto my Hero 'til the morning liiiiiggghhht
Advantages: Infinitely customizeable, easy to use, limitless potential, amazing value
Disadvantages: Battery life isn't great, video camera is poor, volume rocker too large
...Ok, first of all, to anybody of a younger age reading this, the title of the review is a play on the popular Bonnie Tyler hit, "Holding out for a Hero". I do not advocate the practise of all night love-ins with any telecommunications devices.
Anyway, here we have the HTC Hero, the difficult third album to follow up the cult favourites, the Magic and the Touch. This phone is being touted as an iPhone killer, and many reviews will be written with only this in mind. I, however, will try and judge the phone on its own merits before squaring it up to Apple's most recent effort. I bought this after several happy years with the Nokia N series phones, so this is my first experience with the highly praised Android operating system.
LOOKS
Most noticeable on the Hero is its distinctly superhero-esque "chin". Opinion is divided...

Hero
Advantages: Visual feast, excellent cast, unique narrative style.
Disadvantages: Fights go on too long, lack of depth.
...Is there any way that I can review Hero without comparing it to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon? Probably not, so we'll get it out of the way early. I wasn't a fan of that film at all, and was frankly amazed at the success it enjoyed. It deserves recognition on a technical level, and congratulations for pushing itself into the mainstream, but beyond that, it was lacking. It almost felt as if those hailing it were doing so because they hadn't seen any non-English films before and celebrated it as something new. Whether or not that's a good thing is something to be debated, but it did aid the future availability of foreign language films.
As such, in the four years since Crouching Tiger, a wealth of foreign films have been available, with several opening each month instead of the yearly handful that arrived before. Audiences are...

Underclass Hero
Advantages: Some excellent Acoustics
Disadvantages: one track a little messy at the meginning
...Sum 41 Underclass Hero
Sum 41, the punk Canadian band from Ajax, Ontario formed back in 1996 and got signed in 1999. They have 4 albums including this one.
All Killer No Filler, Does This Look Infected?,Chuck and Underclass Hero.
Band Members for this album:
Deryck "Bizzy D" Whibley - lead vocals, rhythm guitar, piano
Steve "Stevo" Jocz - drums, backing vocals
Jason "Cone" McCaslin - bass guitar, vocals
Tom "Brown Tom" Thacker - lead guitar, piano/keyboards, backing vocals
Track One
Underclass Hero 5/5
Starting off with a great catchy beat and some excellent vocals. This track I have to say is the perfect opening track for the album, it definatley keeps the listener hooked as it is sob catchy. The rhythm sounds simple but it really give it that push to get a 5.
Track Two
Walking Disaster 5/5
This is...

Hero we go again
Advantages: Great party game, good songs.
Disadvantages: Samey
...Introduction
The relative ubiquity of a cultural phenomenon can usually be measured by its appearance on cult cartoons. Make it on to The Simpsons, and chances are you could already retire. In light of this helpful measure, we all realised Guitar Hero had hit the big time when it was hilariously parodied on South Park a few years back. The Activision people must have been rubbing their hands together in glee at that time: the game was riding the crest of a feverish, seemingly unstoppable wave. Everyone had to have that plastic guitar despite the fact that it cost more than some real guitars and sounds pretty lame when not plugged into a console. Their slogan at the time GH3 was released was ?unleash your inner rock god?, an almost painfully tantalising invitation for any portly, NHS-bespectacled would-be rock stars who spend their...
