A Sophisticated Stay in Cardiff
Advantages: Sophisticated, swimming pool, comfortable
Disadvantages: Expensive
...another typical expense at a hotel. We decided not to eat in the hotel restaurant as firstly, it was rather overlooked by reception and the car park, and secondly, the prices were extortionate. £8 for a cooked breakfast was well beyond our league.
~~Overall~~
Overall I?d definitely recommend the Novotel Cardiff. The staff were friendly and the rooms were clean and a double bed actually meant a double bed for once! (Rather than two twins pushed together) I?d say the selling point is definitely the swimming pool and I could imagine as a business person it?d be great to go down and have a swim before a day of work (or even after!) Car parking was free for guests, but don?t forget to you?re your car back out of the car park the day after you?ve stayed. Its easy to wander into town and forget all about it and then find that you owe lots...

An expensive Thai-me
Advantages: Good service, nice surroundings
Disadvantages: Far too expensive for the food
...Recently Mr Tart and myself headed to Cardiff to see Michael McIntyre in the International Arena. We had planned to use one of Martin Moneysavingexpert?s to for one deals at a restaurant before the show but due to traffic and parking issues we got there late. Cardiff has changed a lot recently and despite being a former local I couldn?t work out how to get to the restaurants that we wanted as they had planted a massive multi-story where the road used to be. We didn?t have enough time to find another route to it so we headed for the nearest restaurant that could seat us and this happened to be the Thai House.
LOCATION:
The Thai House is located at 3-5 Guildford Crescent in Cardiff city centre. There is a car park opposite the restaurant which you access from Bridge Street. There is some on street parking outside the restaurant...

Harvester Restaurants
Advantages: Always one close by, quick turn out, children are welcome and catered for.
Disadvantages: Toilets can be quite disturbing, not all dishes taste as good they are described.
...Harvester Restaurants
Restaurant Reviewed: Stag and Hounds
Winchester Road
Basingstoke
Hampshire
(next to Comet and Home Base)
The Harvester chain of Restaurants have over 2000 outlets across the United Kingdom and owned and operated by Mitchells and Butlers, who claim to be the UK's leading operator of managed pubs, bars and restaurants. Harvester claim to offer healthy eating, drinking and entertainment in one reasonably priced outlet.
**** Parking and Getting a Table *****
As with most of the Harvester's I have visited, there is usually ample free parking at the rear of the establishment. However on Saturday evenings and Sunday lunch times these places are heaving with customers, so avoid the crowds, go early and if possible ring and reserve a table. The Stag and Hounds is no exception but fortunately...

Cardiff International Arena
Advantages: great location
Disadvantages: expensive inside
...Well i first went to the CIA in Cardiff when i was around 14 years old so a few years ago now. i went to see boyzone there and rememebr thinking omg this place is huge and i was really spun out by it all, it was my first concert and i was just amazed by the atmosphere there.
So it wasnt until returning some years later to see westlife twice and blue that my opinion changed!
Firstly the CIA is smack bang in the middle of cardiff and is very very easy to get to, it is a short walk from the central train station and is situated around the corner from a NCP car park which is handy but is expensive and you can be queing up for ages to pay for you ticket and then you have to get out of the car park but hey thats another story.(Car parking fees are costly in cardiff generally)!
The CIA is home to many events such as concerts...

Curlies in cardiff.
Advantages: Just off the motorway, close to the City
Disadvantages: Room in need of a clean
...far. Though when staying for more than one night you might not want a roast each day. Being only a few minutes from Cardiff City there was plenty of other places nearby to satisfy our needs.
The Carvery, which we tried on the day of our arrival, was quite delicious and the Restaurant thankfully much cleaner than our room. All the staff were pleasant and helpful, and we felt we got value for money.
********************
~Final Thoughts~
********************
Cardiff itself is not a cheap place to stay. So for just over £30 a night it was a very good deal. We would happily return again as the lodge was excellently placed for visiting places in the area and also being near the action.
I would though, without doubt, complain next time, if our room was in the same state as we did feel it was quite unacceptable. I would like to hope...

Our rainy days in Cardiff
Advantages: Cheap accommodation
Disadvantages: Not very clean
...My dad booked us a couple of nights in this Travelodge for a long weekend (actually not the bank holiday, but we had all taken time off). I was disappointed when I heard we would be staying in a Travelodge, not just because I'm a bit spoilt (which, okay, I am) but because we hadn't had the best experience last time. However, we needed the holiday and it is a lot cheaper than paying the average £200 for most B'n'Bs these days.
Getting there
Finding the place was somewhat difficult, as the only address we had was basically "Moto Service Area, M4 motorway Cardiff" and the Sat-Nav was as confused as ever (searching for the postcode will not work, as is mentioned on their site), but it is conveniently located at the service stations, which also has the usual fast food restaurants, coffee shops and book shops. Once you are there...

GET CLASSY IN CARDIFF
Advantages: See Review
Disadvantages: See Review
...Regular readers of my hotel opinions (I think there are 1 or 2 of you left) will know that on my regular trips around the country I suffer with terrible luck when it comes to selecting a hotel. Well, I am pleased to say that I think I have finally found a hotel that is actually rather good – the Marriott Hotel Cardiff. I visited the hotel a couple of years ago, but unfortunately at the time it was being refitted, so it was a bit of a battlefield. The refit has long since been completed, and this time I was able to enjoy the full range of services that the hotel had to offer.
Location
The Cardiff Marriott advertises itself as “Cardiff’s Premier Hotel” – a claim that I would wholeheartedly support. It is located in the heart of the city centre – literally staggering distance from the Café...

The Seafood Restaurant
Advantages: Great fish, sides
Disadvantages: None
...Rick Stein - The Seafood Restaurant
On a recent trip to Padstow, Cornwall we decided to go to Rick Steins famous fish restaurant, The Seafood Restaurant. Rick Stein is an English chef, restauranter and television presenter. He now specialises in fish cookery. He opened his first restaurant in Padstow in 1974 and now runs quite a few businesses in the town including a cake shop, cookery school and a fish and chip shop.
The Seafood Restaurant is his upper class restaurant in the town and is known for it's fabulous fish. It really is in the best location for fish. Padstow is a historic fishing port and so receives fresh fish every day. The restaurant is right at one end of town by the harbour and so is perfectly place to recieve all the best catches of the day.
It's quite hard to get a reservation in the restaurant. I think I booked...

The Fynest Chain Restaurant
Advantages: Wonderful fish and seafood
Disadvantages: Very limited choice for vegetarians
...round our chairs. We had two small pine tables, a little the worse for wear, pushed together. There was already a basket of bread slices and a not overgenerous serving of butter on the table. The paper place mats show photos of and give information about Loch Fyne's fishermen - it's good to see they get some recognition.
I immediately liked the feel of the place itself. Situated in the imposing Vulcan Building on the Canalside, the restaurant has a high ceiling with wooden beams painted white from which spotlights together with small lamps in wall brackets create a soft lighting. The whole of the back wall is in red brick. The theme of fish and the sea runs through a series of paintings on the walls. There is a bar behind which the collection of wines is displayed, and there is also a counter where you can see elaborate seafood dishes being...
