Happiest restaurant in Newcastle

Advantages: Great menu, lovely surroundings, good for families
Disadvantages: Often busy,

...We go fairly regularly to Azzuri, it's great for just the two of us or when we take the whole family (9). I love the reception area, most restaurants seat you on a couple of sofas in a tiny space, not Azzuri, its massive, lots of small tables (intimate) and a big sofas. The flower arrangements are always amazing, would love to take them home. Some of the staff are a little forgetful, but i think this is because they always seem to be busy, its a very popular place. To me it doesn't feel like a restaurant, more of a show, it's one of those places that you walk in and think, oh oh, watch the purse, but no, it's very good value, the wines are always fantastic and the food is always plenty and very well cooked, I think that over the past year it has improved a lot, staff seem happier and the menu is shorter (still much choice) but...

Review of Azzurri Restaurant, Newcastle upon Tyne

A favourite eatery

Advantages: Great food
Disadvantages: None for me

...Blackfriars One of my favourite rstaurants in Newcastle, we went a few days ago for a mid week meal. Bit of history... Situated just off China town in Newcastle upon Tyne, and dating back to 1239, the restaurant claims to be the oldest in England, and was once a hostel accommodating Henry VIII, as well as being the refrectory for the monks. The site where the restaurant now stands was donated by three anonymous sisters and the first Mayor of newcastle, and when more donations came from local people and Henry III, the Blackfriars were established in the city. The Restaurant As I mentioned before, this is the oldest dining room in the UK with the main restaurant originally built to house the refectory for the Black friars and as a working inner-city former monastery. There is a horseshoe of buildings accessed off...

Fine Italian Food on the Tyne - Azzuri Restaurant

Advantages: Great food, popular, affordable
Disadvantages: Too noisy and crowded on Saturdays

...icecream-related creations around the restaurant so I don't doubt that - if you still have room - dessert would be worth trying. After finishing our meal we returned to the even more packed bar area to finish our wine. There was an air of being rushed by some members of the waiting staff, but others were very friendly, as I have mentioned. The prices were fairly reasonable, comparabale to most general Italian restaurants Overall, an enjoyable night out, a little too busy and noisy but as it was a Saturday night in Newcastle city centre I was not surprised and it's not a bad reflection on the restaurant itself. The food for the most part was excellent, with generous portions and countless options. I would definitely go back if only to try the steak!...

Diamond review  Harvester Restaurants

Advantages: Always one close by, quick turn out, children are welcome and catered for.
Disadvantages: Toilets can be quite disturbing, not all dishes taste as good they are described.

...Harvester Restaurants Restaurant Reviewed: Stag and Hounds Winchester Road Basingstoke Hampshire (next to Comet and Home Base) The Harvester chain of Restaurants have over 2000 outlets across the United Kingdom and owned and operated by Mitchells and Butlers, who claim to be the UK's leading operator of managed pubs, bars and restaurants. Harvester claim to offer healthy eating, drinking and entertainment in one reasonably priced outlet. **** Parking and Getting a Table ***** As with most of the Harvester's I have visited, there is usually ample free parking at the rear of the establishment. However on Saturday evenings and Sunday lunch times these places are heaving with customers, so avoid the crowds, go early and if possible ring and reserve a table. The Stag and Hounds is no exception but fortunately...

Choose Newcastle!!!!!!!!

Advantages: Read on and find out.
Disadvantages: It is a long way from the rest of the country.....

...the way of bars, restaurants and nightlife and new establishments are popping up all the time. Additionally, the city is very arty, with loads of theatres and a good live music scene. There is loads of great arcitecture and old buildings to admire. Grey Street on the way down to the Quayside was voted the nicest street in Britain!! Newcastle is great for shopping and the Metrocentre is just a short trip away and if you're in to football as everyone else here, then St James is slap bang in the centre of town, on home days you can hear the crowd roar across the city! There is the Quayside which really sold Newcastle to me when I first visited. Here you're find the newly built armadilo shaped glass domes of the Sage Music Centre, the Baltic Centre for Comtempory Art (one of the largest changing collection of comtempory art in the country...

Excellent Service, Great Food

Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review

...It was my mam?s 50th birthday on August 31st and we wanted to do something special to celebrate. My dad decided to book a table at Azzurri in Newcastle (on the Quayside) as a surprise for my mam and we invited my Nana and my aunties and uncles. There?s too many of us for the whole family (cousins and their children) to all go for a meal together but we ended up with a party of 13. My dad had been here with work previously and he knew that it was nice which is why he chose this as the location. My dad did most of the booking via email or on the phone, but he did call in to leave a £50 deposit. As there was a large party we were given a choice of three set menus at three different prices per person (£20, £25 and £30). This offered a choice of 4 starters, 4 main course and 2 deserts. We all managed to choose something we liked from this...

Newcastle

Advantages: The nightlife, the shopping, everything!!
Disadvantages: None!! A weekend prob isnt long enough!

...I am a student in Newcastle, and it is a brilliant city to live in. I'm from a small little town so Newcastle was a bit of a change for me, but I love it! NIGHTLIFE: Nights out in Newcastle are excellent, i tend to just go out through the week, as even tho Fridays and Saturdays are both excellent nights out, wherever you go it is really expensive (so on these nights I would just stick to the student union). On a Saturday night you could pay about £10 to get in a club. Every other night out in Newcastle is also brilliant- and cheap too! On a Monday night I would go to bars in The Gate - a big complex with the Odeon ciinema, restaurants (such as Frankie and Bennys, Pizza Hut, The Spice Cube, Nandos, Ask,M.A Potters and a new one Bannatyne) and the fantastic bars (many of which are open late, and more like clubs than bars). There...

Arami - the spice is right!

Advantages: Delicious food, new dishes, good value, great service, lovely decor
Disadvantages: A couple of minor errors but nothing major

...How do you like the sound of some Jimey Bum Bums Puri? Me too! But I'll have to wait till my next visit to Arami to sample that dish... Arami is the newest and, definitely the most stylish, addition to the restaurant scene in Newcastle. As it was the Curry Monster's birthday celebration it had fallen to me - Chutney Mary - to make the arrangements and I certainly made a good choice. The restaurant is situated on Leazes Park Road, in the shadow of St. James Park. It's close to two Metro stations and to Eldon Square bus station just a couple of minutes walk from the very centre of town. The exterior is stylish but simple with big picture windows and black woodwork; it is just a taster of the simple decor inside. The bar area is warm and cosy with low lighting and tactile leather and suede cushions on low banquettes. The only thing...

Review of Arami Restaurant, Newcastle

Please, Sir, I want some more...

Advantages: Delicious, innovative food, great surroundings
Disadvantages: Fairly dark later in the evening

...This is an up-dated version of a review I wrote some time ago. My aprtner and I went back for a celebrationmeal this weekend and a number of points jumped out at me which I thought should be added. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx I recently wrote an op on my home city of Newcastle upon Tyne. It seemed that many Ciao-ers thought that it sounded a good place to visit. with this in mind, I thought I should provide a bit more information for anyone visiting or thinking of visiting the city. Restaurants seemed like a good place to start and Blackfriars is a very good place to begin. Blackfriars Cafe Bar and Restaurant can boast the distinction of being the UK's oldest purpose built restaurant - it was original the refectory for the monks who lived on the site in the thirteenth century. The restaurant is situated on the edge...

The Seafood Restaurant

Advantages: Great fish, sides
Disadvantages: None

...Rick Stein - The Seafood Restaurant On a recent trip to Padstow, Cornwall we decided to go to Rick Steins famous fish restaurant, The Seafood Restaurant. Rick Stein is an English chef, restauranter and television presenter. He now specialises in fish cookery. He opened his first restaurant in Padstow in 1974 and now runs quite a few businesses in the town including a cake shop, cookery school and a fish and chip shop. The Seafood Restaurant is his upper class restaurant in the town and is known for it's fabulous fish. It really is in the best location for fish. Padstow is a historic fishing port and so receives fresh fish every day. The restaurant is right at one end of town by the harbour and so is perfectly place to recieve all the best catches of the day. It's quite hard to get a reservation in the restaurant. I think I booked...
