...We were on our Annual Short break to Tavira in Portugal on the Algarve. The previous September my Brother Rob, and his by far better half Roz had been caught up in the XL Failure so had ended up with a replacement holiday in Cabanas, a small town juts an 8 Euro Taxi ride from Tavira. So on the Sunday Luch we tripped over to Cabanas, there were six on this jaunt, Rob/Roz Anne and Daughter Sheryl and Jane and I. Rob/Roz had a Restaurant in mind, Restaurante Fonte (See Bostonianbeer review on it), but alas although owners were there and remembered Rob/Roz they were not open until the evening. Restaurante A Fonte, Cabanas

Advantages: Everything fresh and cooked to perfection
Disadvantages: Not enough nights on holiday to eat there

...Restaurante A Fonte, is from the outside a small place but a little like a tardis on the inside, with covers in the main front dining area for 30 and then at the back another room that can seat another 20, so not a bad size. Robert found it on one of his saunters whilst I was sat by the pool reading. All he saw was the board on the end of the side street and thought I will go and look. He did and liked what he saw so 11 of went and had dinner there 3 nights out of the 7 that we where staying in Cabanas. All the staff spoke wonderful English and put our attempts at Portuguese to shame. The food was excellent and we went back again and again. The cover is wonderful brown and white bread and butter, tuna pate, sardine pate, olives and between the 11 they placed 4 plates of each. Our order was as follows: 5 Beef stroganoff...

Restaurante Santa Eulalia

...Based high above the sand, overlooking the Santa Eulalia beach and accessible via steps or by road, this restaurant caters for the residents of the adjacent 5 star hotel. To our surprise you needn't be a client to sample the cuisine. The Restaurante Santa Eulalia is 50% of a food complex with the other 50% being a bar and snack area called "Cafe Bar Atlántico". The Cafe Bar Atlántico opens daily until 8pm offering snacks, bar meals and ice-cream until 7pm, when the restaurant takes over the catering side of things and offers a proper meal. The menu is fairly extensive and whilst I shan't list the contents, it includes appetisers, starters, a fish list, a meat menu and a comprehensive list of seafood specials which were the only things in the menu not to be priced. PALMEIRA RESTAURANT PORTO Where Size matters

Advantages: Good service, Large Portions, and tables.
Disadvantages: Closed on Sundays.

...On our short stay to Porto we like to try local Restaurants rather than Hotel Restaurants, although the Grande Hotel Do Porto, Hotel's Menu looked very tempting. We had noticed a Restaurante sign in the little street that runs behind the Hotel, sorry I did not get the street's name, but if you find the Grande Hotel do Porto on Rua Santa Catarina, stand facing then look for alley to the right, goes down ,turn left about 40 yards the Resaurante Palmeira, dont be put off by the Snack Bar sign, enter by the door on the right down stairs then into the restaurant. We had called in about 17:00 and asked for a table for 4 at 20:00, no problem, they did not even take a name. Yummy in the Yucatan

Advantages: Delicious local and international cuisine, good vegetarian selections.

...with questions. Don?t expect service to be as prompt as in the UK, this is also typical of the region as a whole. We ate there on a Sunday night; I believe they have live music on some other nights of the week. I would heartily recommend this restaurant on many counts ? not just do you have a varied and exclusive menu offering local dishes freshly prepared but it is in a beautiful and romantic setting. Food Glorious Food...There's really none like it

Advantages: Cheap, Varied menu, Kids menu, Romantic views over-looking the harbour, Open til late, Central - not more than 5 mins from anywhere, Great dessert menu, It's at the bottom of a hill so if you're staying nearer the beach you can walk off those calories
Disadvantages: No Wheel Chair Access, Opens later than everywhere else so you have to wait longer for your dinner, above a grottier restaurant

...In my own personal opinion, this hotel is one of a kind. I set my standards very high when I am looking for a hotel to stay, and I dont just look at the rooms, I look at the overall standard of the hotel. This hotel ticks all of my boxes. The staff couldnt have been any better, they were both friendly and extremely pleasant. The only problem for me was the food here, but that didnt make my experience any worse, as there are plenty of other food restaurantes and bars around. The rooms were big but not big enough for all of my family, so we book two rooms at a reduced price, which helped. The capital city is full of tourist destinations and this hotel is near by almost all of them and if not, within a short journey. You can easily catch a cab from outside....
