Sharm el Sheikh

Advantages: great weather for just a 5 1/2 hour flight, value for money
Disadvantages: hassle from shopkeepers

...which was a delightful experience. I found the people working in the hotels to be very friendly and happy, OK you do get hassled in the shops but just be strict (and polite). You cannot fail to notice the security everywhere, it shocked me a bit when I first arrived. But you get used to walking through metal detectors and Sharm is now a very safe place to be. Naama Bay is policed by plain clothes cops and the crime rate is extremely low. I didn't expect the variety of restaurants and nighltife, a 3 course meal in TGI Fridays with drinks will cost around £10. Pascha nightclub was a good night out, we clubbed together and bought a couple of bottles of vodka to take in - we had to pay a high cover charge for this but it still worked out cheaper than buying drinks inside. Must do: Diving and Snorkelling - Sharm is one of the best dive...

Sharm el Sheikh - first time impressions

Advantages: good value for money, the best for diving and snorkelling, friendly people
Disadvantages: "Come sign my guestbook"

...and makes you drunk quickly. If you do drink the occassional spirit, drink even more water, to avoid further de-hydration. We did not particularly like the food (apart from fish and sea food restaurants), although you find McDonalds, Hard Rock Cafe and Pizza Hut that provide more "European" food. These restaurants are VERY cheap compared to UK standards (a medium sized pizza in Pizza Hut was around E£ 25, which is £ 2.50). Be prepared to pay a bit more for a good fish/sea food meal. ********** SHOPPING ********** Well, Sharm el Sheikh is full of shops, and full of Egyptians that want to sell, desperately. The shop owners try to lurk you into their shops by calling you "my friend, where are you from" and try to make you feel guilty if you ignore them ("I asked you a question, why do you not answer me?"). Most common phrase is "Come...

Sharm El Sheikh - Paradise?

Advantages: The weather, the people, the scenery, the hotel, the sea, the fish....
Disadvantages: Can get very hot in the summer period!

...On Thursday May 26th 2005, myself, my mum, my dad and my brother went on a family holiday to Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. It was the first time we had been abroad for 4 years, the first time we had been on a plane for 4 years, the first time we had been to Africa - ever. All my life I had dreamed of going to Egypt, mainly Cairo to see the Pyramids, as I had always wanted to become an archaeologist. I collected souveneirs from Museums and shops relating to Ancient Egypt, an amazing period in the worlds history filled with grand designs, architecture and beliefs. I collected a childrens magazine on Ancient Egypt and read up about the era in books both at home and at school. I was fascinated by everything I read and was determined from then on to visit the Great Pyramids at Giza, one seventh of the wonders of the Ancient World...

Sharm el Sheikh.

Advantages: Cheap,fantastic accommodation.
Disadvantages: really,really,really hot!

...We visited Sharm El Sheikh last year which is Egypts well known Red Sea resort. The food was fantastic, local dishes are a must to try.Sea food is a speciality, lobster and crayfish are hlaf the price they are in England. Also due to the favpurable exchange rate eating out is very cheap indeed, depending on where you go.You will surprisingly find mcdonalds, kfc and pizza hut as well if you really miss that processed junk food from home. The snorkelling is absoloutely unmissable, you can take a diving course if you wish but we just found that snorkelling off of the beach was equally fantastic. If you are staying b and b in your hotel, take a bag to breakfast and put a few bread rolls in it and sneak off to feed the fish whilst you snorkel!Mind those parrott fish though,They have a huge coral breaking beak,so fingers are no problem. The people...

Sharm El Sheikh - What to Expect

Advantages: Sun, Gorgeous hotels, Cheap Outings, Cheap Meals out, Friendly Staff.

...El Sheikh to see the pyramids - which are amazing! I did this day trip via a coach and was very impressed with the value for money - for £40 I got a return coach trip (airconditioned), lunch in a restaurant on the nile, entry to the museum and the pyramids! Overall, I'd recommend Sharm El Sheikh as a holiday destination - everyone who has been wants to go back! I have already booked my flights back there!...

Is Sharm El Sheikh For Me?

Advantages: Weather, Diving and Excursions
Disadvantages: Locals Can pester you to death for money and to get you into their shops

...Destination: Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt) When and Where: Sheraton Sharm - 28th Feb 05 for 2 weeks Hotel Rating 7 out of 10. Advantages: large beautiful complex with its own beach and coral reef, well-equipped rooms (satellite TV, fridge, Air con) and in good order. Everyone Loves Sharm el Sheikh

Advantages: The Weather, Diving and the People
Disadvantages: The insects

...We visited Sharm el Sheikh in November 2004 and we cannot wait to go back. When arriving at the airport be aware that you must pay for a visa - which costs around £12GB per person and ensure that your passport has been stamped. Collecting your lugguage from the carousel at the airport is an experience. Beware there are porters who will collect your luggage but expect to be paid even if you have been not asked him to do so. Keep your eyes open. There are also men with luggage trolleys again do not take them as they also expect to be tipped. If however, you are getting a taxi to take you to your hotel in sharm then bargain with the driver, they will usually charge you about £5 GB. If he wants more just move on to the next driver. If you arrive in the dark the taxi drivers tend to drive with no lights on. If this happens just...

Diamond review  The Charm Of Sharm

Advantages: Friendly locals, nice beaches, family orientated, hot, good for diving
Disadvantages: Some of the locals can be pushy, sunburn!

...Myself and my boyfriend have just returned from an 11 night stay in Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt. Where is Sharm El Sheikh? Sharm el-Sheikh is probably one of the most popular places for people to visit in Egypt and it is certainly the most developed tourist resort. It is situated on the Sinai Peninsula. How Long Does It Take To Get To Sharm? The flight to Sharm takes just over 5 hours from any of the London Airports which isn?t too bad. Sharm Airport We were told before we went on holiday that Sharm airport is really manic but we didn?t find that at all, this could be due to that fact that they had a new terminal open earlier this year. The airport is fairly small, especially considering that I am comparing it to the London Airports. Avoid the local men with the trollies for your luggage, they will try and charge you £2...

Diamond review  Sharm el Shiekh - Dive in

Advantages: Weather, diving, friendliness, hotel stds and price
Disadvantages: Adjusting to Arab culture and being pestered

...threat later though) Anyway here goes................... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WHERE IS NAAMA BAY - SHARM EL SHIEKH Sharm el Shiekh is placed very close to the peninsula of an area called Sinai in Egypt but is actually a triangular strip of desert between the mainland Egypt and Israel/Jordan and Saudi Arabia (see map below). It is on the coast of the Red Sea. Sharm el shiekh old town is actually on a cliff top, the main beach area here is Naama Bay which is at cliff base level and slightly further up the coast. There is a 10 min drive between Namma Bay and Sharm el Sheikh (old town). Naama bay sea front has many fine hotels all along the front. The first morning/evening you will see is why it is called the Red Sea, it is surrounded by hills/mountains that have...

Sharm El Sheikh-Not just for divers!

Advantages: Great Diving, Quality Hotels, Variety of Activities
Disadvantages: Temperatures in the summer may be too high for some, Proximity of Hotels

...(Huge Egyptian water pipe that everyone shares) filled with Shisha (fruit flavoured tobacco)-which tends to make the place quite mellow. This suited us down to the ground but someone youger and hipper than us may find it a bit tame. The other evening option is to take a bus into Sharm El Sheikh itself. Here you will find a much more Egyptian atmosphere. There are some great restaurants serving fantastic seafood at reasonable prices, but be warned it may be difficult to get a glass of wine or beer with your meal, so if thats important to you-you may want to give this one a miss. Excursions There are some fantstic excursions that you can take. We booked all of ours locally with an Egyptian company in Sharm, but most holiday companys will have a rep selling them too. We took the 24 hour coach trip to Cairo which was an amazing experience...
