Bella Sorrento
Advantages: Beautiful scenery
Disadvantages: Traffic noise
...nationalities were represented but very much in the minority to the coach loads of tourists from the UK and Ireland.
The Geography
The Bay of Sorrento is a lot larger than I had expected. My original preconception was of a small sleepy Italian fishing village that would provide a useful starting point to explore the local areas of interest. A travel book and a few reviews on Ciao later that opinion was quickly changed. Sorrento itself is made up of five communes with Sorrento Town itself providing the main shopping and commercial centre.
The centre of Sorrento is Piazza Tasso which is bisected by the Corso d' Italia which is the main thoroughfare and in the evenings is closed to traffic to allow the locals and visitors alike to parade along in all their finery. Tasso is full of large bars and restaurants with huge patio areas while Corso...

Sorrento, I'll be back!
Advantages: Interesting town, great weather, good base to explore the area
Disadvantages: Traffic and pollution
...the proprietors aren?t likely to wait for you to come to them, but will encourage you inside whether that was your intention or not. Marina Grande is quieter than the rest of Sorrento, and consequently prices are a bit steeper here.
Marina Piccola, at the northern end, is the main ferry terminal for catching hydrofoils to Capri and Naples. It?s very busy, but still quite picturesque. There is a regular bus service (more on that later) to and from the town of Sorrento, so it?s not necessary to climb the stairs that lead up from the marina to the town.
The stretch of shoreline between the two marinas is taken up with various decked lidos for swimming and sunbathing, and cafes and restaurants. It?s impossible to walk from one marina to the other without going back up into the town though, as we discovered to our cost. There are stairs, and in...

Sorrento - amazing town, amazing hotel!
Advantages: Great sights, proffesional, good service, clean
Disadvantages: Quite expensive
...depending on what season you wish to visit Sorrento. The hotel was brilliant though. It was clean, sophisticated, and very proffesional. The service was good and the staff were very friendly i have to say, always there to help you whether your wondering where to go, have a problem or if you want to buy bus tickets. There are many facilities in the hotel if you're planning to spend a few days relaxing in the hotel. There are swimming pools (indoor and out), fitness equipment, poolside bar, internet access, parking, and other amenities which may enhance your experience in Sorrento.
I loved the food there; it was pure Italian food and gorgeous. There are more than one restaurants in the Hilton hotel but my family and I only went to one. The restaurant we went to every breakfast and dinner was brilliant. A buffet for breakfast with fresh egg...

A week's successful holiday in St. Agnello, Sorrento (Italy)
Advantages: Excellent, inexpensive public transport
Disadvantages: Traffic is very heavy don't even consider a hire car
...Eight days in St. Agnello, Sorrento, Italy.
We have just returned from a very successful week in Sorrento. Arriving at Naples Airport we took the regular bus service to Sorrento as far as St. Agnello which is once stop before Sorrento itself. The journey time should be one hour and the single fare was 10.0?.
Having poured over many reviews of hotels in Sorrento area we chose the Alpha and found it to be the Alpha and Omega of Hotels. We couldn?t have asked for anything better; from the moment we walked through the front door we could see that we were going to like it. We were met by a cheerful, smiling, English speaking receptionist who greeted us with the news that they had decided to upgrade our room to a panoramic one with a balcony without extra charge.
We were booked for bed and breakfast but after the first evening...

Sorrento not just for the oaps
Advantages: A wonderful place, Ideal for site seeing
Disadvantages: none
...Ever heard the phrase "See Naples and die?" well who ever first said this must have just landed at Naples airport! The landing was scary! One minute I was looking over the bay of Naples pointing out Capri and Ischia to the old man the next I was practically eye balling a woman in a tower block hanging out her washing!!
This was my introduction to Italy, I can truely say this was the only bad thing about the holiday! The old man and I visited Sorrento on an Airtours bargain -£199 half board at a 4 star hotel!!
Sorrento is a magical place, forget the image of it being for pensioners and folk that stop off on their med cruises its actually quite a lively place BUT it has also kept alot of its old charm and hasnt succombed to mass to tourism.
Sorrento has a great train link to Naples which stops at Pompeii and Hersulaum ( two...

Harvester Restaurants
Advantages: Always one close by, quick turn out, children are welcome and catered for.
Disadvantages: Toilets can be quite disturbing, not all dishes taste as good they are described.
...Harvester Restaurants
Restaurant Reviewed: Stag and Hounds
Winchester Road
Basingstoke
Hampshire
(next to Comet and Home Base)
The Harvester chain of Restaurants have over 2000 outlets across the United Kingdom and owned and operated by Mitchells and Butlers, who claim to be the UK's leading operator of managed pubs, bars and restaurants. Harvester claim to offer healthy eating, drinking and entertainment in one reasonably priced outlet.
**** Parking and Getting a Table *****
As with most of the Harvester's I have visited, there is usually ample free parking at the rear of the establishment. However on Saturday evenings and Sunday lunch times these places are heaving with customers, so avoid the crowds, go early and if possible ring and reserve a table. The Stag and Hounds is no exception but fortunately...

Sorrento my view
Advantages: Lots to see,reasonable prices,
Disadvantages: noisy hotel on main street
...Sorrento.
Landing at Naples Airport then a coach to Sorrento and our hotel in the older part of this city. At first sight an impression of narrow streets and pavements, when there are any, houses, shops and other buildings packed tightly together. The journey along and round the Bay of Naples gives a foretaste of this area of Italy. The mountains on one side and the road as you near Sorrento running along the side of the cliff, if that's how you describe the mountains that drop down to sea level. The streets of Sorrento are busy, noisy and narrow with buildings three to four storeys plus high and entrances through doorways at the front in alleyways round the back and staircases to the upper apartments.
The sea is accessible by steps or roads descending steeply with twists and turns to arrive at small flat areas adjacent to it...

Wonderful Sorrento
Advantages: fantastic scenery and good food
Disadvantages: not enough time to see everything
...Sorrento has it all, the hospitality of Italy combined with a relaxed atmosphere. It is located on the Amalfi coast which is home to some of the most scenic views in all of Italy.
Sorrento is very clean and has a small city that offers great seafood and all Italy's specialty cuisines.
I would definatly reccomend it to everyone who wants to make the trip to Southern Italy, its worth it.
Sorrento is an excellent alternative to staying in Napoli - it isn't plagued by the same poverty and graffiti. The town is beautiful and offers convenient ferries to Capri, one of the most beautiful places on earth.
Sorrento is linked to Naples by an inter-city train system that is farily convienient. Early spring is especially perfect here because of all the orange and lemon groves in various backyards and gardens.
Stayed at the "Sorrento Holiday...

Sorrento in a day - it's all you need!
Advantages: Pleasant old town, beautiful scenery
Disadvantages: Few proper beaches, inflated prices
...When it comes to travel I have permanently itchy feet. Even when I'm on holiday I just can't satisfy that itch and so when I get back home I often feel that I haven't done justice to a particular destination. My holidays lately have been based around touring an area or making my base in a good central location and taking day trips to nearby places.
Sorrento was one of my must-visits when in Naples for a week earlier this year. An easy to negotiate hour or so train journey from Naples (only 25KM but stops everywhere), Sorrento offers a very pleasant alternative to the hustle and bustle of southern Italy's largest city.
The train journey itself is integral to the day out. You travel on the Circumvesuviana line which passes very closes to the Mount Vesuvius and the towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum which were famously devastated by...

The Grand Hotel Flora, Sorrento
Advantages: Friendly staff and atmosphere, Clean and well managed, lovely food
Disadvantages: could maybe have more evening entertainment at the bar
...I really feel that this photo does not do the hotel justice. Myself and my husband have stayed in this hotel for both our trips to Italy, and it has been a very enjoyable experience both times. The hotel itself i feel lives up to its name, especially the staircase and stunning chandelier and staircase in the main reception. The views of mount Vesuvius and the bay of Naples from the top of the hotel restaurant were breathtaking, especially at sunset. Talking of the restaurant, the staff were very friendly and efficiant and you got a little feel on the Italian culture through food and the way of the staff. The rooms were simple, and not too cluttered, having the essentials such as fridge, safe and air conditioning, as well as sky TV. The room was cleaned every day to a high standard, and fresh towels put in. The balcony overlooked...
