Reusable Nappies- Bambino Mio

Advantages: eco-friendly, economical, no nappy rash
Disadvantages: you need to keep on top of the laundry!

I can honesly say we have not had a problem. I was even preparing to have to change the nappy every two hours or so, but we haven't had to do this at all. We once ran out of liners and that caused a rash and she has had the odd episode whilst teething, but nothing out of the ordinary comparing the first two in disposables even. I bought a birth to potty pack for just under £200 which included a big backpack, changing mat and all the nappies you will ever need. The only extras we have to buy are liners (£5 for about 6 weeks' worth), nappy cream and of course laundry. In order to be really eco-friendly and economical, it tells you to wash them...

Little Lamb Bamboo reusable nappies.

Advantages: Cost effective, good fitting
Disadvantages: outer wrap leaks

...I tried three reusable nappies once my son was born, two of which were the more well known brands. After trying, I chose to go for the Bamboo of the Little Lamb option as it is meant to be a more environmental choice and a higher rate of absorption. They seemed to fit much better than the other two which were fairly loose and baggy. Fortunately they were also the cheapest option. I have been very pleased with the nappies from LIttle Lamb - the velcro fastening is quick and easy and means it is easily adjustable for a good fit. I have been very impressed with how stain resisitant they are after washing - have come up clean every time and I only wash on 40 degrees unless they are heavily soiled or he has a tummy upset. Whilst thy do take longer to dry than cotton nappies, they only take a day on a clothes horse and then 5 minutes in...

Kushies / Kooshies Classic Reusable Nappies

Advantages: Save Money, help avoid nappy rash, environmentally good, padding helps baby to sit up!!!!
Disadvantages: Increase washing and no birth to potty system, very padded, big intial investment

...We were looking to cut household bills when I was pregnant and Kushies looked like a good solution. Having battled through the minefield of so many reusable nappies on the market. We initially bought Kushies Ultra, the idea is that they are "just like a disposable". They are certainly very easy to use, there is no wrapper, the whole thing is one unit which has velcro fixers like a normal disposable nappy. The outer part is waterproof and the inner is made up of cotton flannelette 2 layers of polyester/rayon. This makes them very soft, but very bulky. Which is actually quite handy when Baby starts to try sitting up! Good value reusables

...I wanted to buy reusable nappies and these were the ones I bought before my daughter was born. I bought a cotton (rather than bamboo) birth- potty pack for about £200 which seemed good value compared to other brands. I've now used these for 6 months and we're still using the smaller of the two sizes. In the main, we have found these nappies absolutely brilliant and its great to know we are saving on the landfill.... The nappies are fluffy and rather like Tots Bots in style. They have white outer wraps rather than funky jungle prints, but we haven't missed that! We have had a few urine leak issues, particularly as my daughter sleeps like a log and I don't think any nappy for this age range really is up to 12 hour sleeps. A baby in a 'proper' nappy looks gorgeous!

Advantages: cost, simplicity, resale value, good for sensitive skin, look very cute
Disadvantages: initial outlay cost, having to wash them.

..., however if you do a few sums, a baby will get through about £1000 worth of nappies by the time they are potty trained, and in comparison a £200 spend + washing costs is definitely cheaper. Also when you are done with them, reusable nappies have a great resale interest- just look on ebay! Oh, and make sure that you contact your local council and see if they have any incentive schemes - I was able to claim £30 back from my local council - I know its not a huge amount, but it is a good start!...

...I decided to go with cloth nappies when I was pregnant with my daughter (nearly 2 years ago), I did a lot of research into the various cloth nappy systems available (and boy there are a LOT), but Motherease seemed to come out on top, so I went for the Birth-to-Potty nappy. It's basically a nappy that will fit your baby from birth (if they aren't too tiny) right through to potty training, it has poppers that you can adjust as your baby grows. So all I needed was 20 of these, with 20 liners (I chose fleece - dry next to baby's bum), and some snap in boosters for extra protection at night time - I didn't need to use these until she was about 6 months old. I also needed water proof wraps, and the Motherease ones came in small, medium, large & extra large so I got 4 of each (apart from the extra large which I didn't think I would need...

THE BEST RE-USABLE NAPPY? YES!

Advantages: Speedy to dry & look great on

...I am a recent convert to 'Fuzzi Bunz' re-useable nappies and I shall endeavour to tell you why. The Fuzzi Bunz consists of a layer of waterproof fabric (PUL) and a layer of thin fleece (think fleece jacket, not sheeps fleece!!) sewn together to make a nappy-shaped "pocket". This pocket is stuffed with absorbent matter of your choice. The 'stuffing' could be, terry squares, booster pads, pre-folds .. but I use 2 microfiber cloths (£1 each from Poundland) folded into 3 and this makes a nice, slim fitting, highly absorbent nappy. At nighttime, you can pop in an extra cloth to make it more absorbent and I sometimes also use a fleece liner so that if he poos within 2 minutes of having a clean nappy, I just change the liner and not the whole nappy. So, once stuffed, the Fuzzi Bunz looks very similar to disposable nappies, and does...
