Revision....
Advantages: Covers pretty much everything you need to know
Disadvantages: There is so much!
...I am doing my GCSE's very soon, and so have been revising for the past few weeks. The revision books my school sells are CGP, so it made sense to buy them!
In this review i will be reviewing GCSE level Science, Maths and History CGP revision books. The Science books are at higher level, the Maths at intermediate and the History is Modern World History. The History and Maths books are for no specified exam board, and the Science book is for AQA modular science.
SCIENCE
There are 2 books needed when revising modular science. One is the 'early modules' revision guide, which is needed throughout year 10, as separate modular tests are taken at different stages. The other is the 'final exam' revision guide, which covers the modules you cover in year 11. The 'early modules' guide also has some information needed for the final exam...

* Revising Is Fun! *
Advantages: Makes Revising Fun!
Disadvantages: None!
...Business Studies.
If I remember correctly , all my other exams were taken through the Welsh Joint Education Comittee (WJEC) exam board , however my business studies one was taken through AQA.
A few months before my business studies exam my teacher told us that she had ordered some 'revision guides' for us , which if we bought them from her , we would get them cheaper because she was 'bulk buying' for the school , and so in the end I think I only ended up having to pay about £3 for this book , whereas it's recommended retail price is £4.50 which I think is excellent value for money considering the degree of information it contains. I also bought a revision workbook which had exam questions , which was exactly like the book I am reviewing , with the exact same information on the exact same pages although you had to 'fill in the blanks...

Not only for the wise
Advantages: A joyful celebreation of life
Disadvantages: It ends...
...Wise Children, like all Angela Carter's novels, is very, very, very hard to quantify. The novel itself is a minefield of clichés, stock characters and contrived situations waiting to happen. My point being: this never happens. Ever. Not at all. This does not seem possible.
Contextualisation: knowing the name and not much else I picked up the novel second hand, having read the first few pages in the shop. I was enjoying it but there was the niggling thought in the back of my mind: this book could get annoying. But I knew it would take 30 or forty pages to find out and so what was there to lose.
What indeed?
I bought it.
Wise Children, on the surface, is the tale of Dora and Nora Chance (known in their 'glory days' of music hall / vaudeville as the Lucky Chances), bastard offspring of Thespian Sir Melchior Hazard, one...

Warranty Wise - no problems
Advantages: Good tailored policy
Disadvantages: None
...I have had a number of warranties for used cars and this firm are very good. Like all insurance it is important to take a policy which has terms suitable for you. What I liked about this policy is that you can tailor it to your own needs. The most important things about car policies are the wear and tear, excess and labour rate. Most policies exclude wear and tear. Get one that for a small premium ignores wear and tear. Otherwise most components on an older car won't be covered. Get one with a labour rate that is realistic. Avoid large excesses otherwise you will never claim.
Warranty Wise were quick with their payment. Okay like most you had to give them every document that they wanted but that is within the terms. Don't like the terms then don't accept.
I had a photochromatic dipping rear mirror on my M3 that failed. No problem...

Revision Time
Advantages: If you revise well, you get higher grades
Disadvantages: It is boring, and there is alot to do.
...Having recently taken my GCSE's, I know what revision can be like. Constant, boring and always hanging over your head as something you SHOULD be doing, but probably arn't. Exams aways seem to come at once, and that maths exam you put 2 weeks aside for, is suddenly 2 days away, and there's a history exam tomorrow too. It seems that, with so much to get through, you are never going to get it all done, so, why not just....give up?
Well, that is an option. But once you sit in one exam and look at the paper infront of you, not knowing a single answer with the two hour stretch ahead of you, where there is nothing to do but stare at formulas, dates or words without a clue what they mean, you may decide a bit of revision could have been good. Believe me, i've done it!
Ofcourse, it is not just GCSE's to revise for. SAT's, A levels, Degrees...

The best revision guides!
Advantages: colourful, brokendown info, helpful diagrams, humour
Disadvantages: not enough info
...When revising a subject or topic it is never easy. The best way to do this is by making it as easy as possible. The C.G.P revision books understand and have made their revision books both easy and practical to use.
The C.G.P Company are situated at Newcastle upon Tyne. C.G.P stands for Coordination Group Publication Ltd. The company are widely used in most schools across the UK. This is because the revision guides are so good and have helped many students pass exams.
They have excellently made long-winded passages of heavy material into straightforward and readable paragraphs. The company have divided the topics into more easy to digest sections. This makes revision a little easier to cope with.
Also helping students divide there revision time up into these sections. The revision guides deliver vital...

Revising the GCSE Anthology for AQA
Advantages: Very detailed guidance
Disadvantages: Less able pupils may struggle with some aspects
...I must emphasise at the outset of this review that Revise the English and English Literature Anthology for AQA A is intended for pupils taking GCSE English examinations, but only those who are studying the AQA Specification A as is clear from the title. (AQA is an examination board.) Pupils will be supplied by their schools with the AQA Anthology itself (Oxford University Press, ISBN 0198318812); the Anthology is not available in online or offline bookshops, but if you did need to obtain a copy, you might find one on Ebay.
Tony Childs' book is therefore intended to assist with revision of the Anthology, by taking the poems and short stories one by one and asking questions that will guide pupils in the understanding and analysis of the works. The book opens with a six-page introduction that explains the aims of the book, how it can...

Revise To Success
Advantages: You will get those grades you've worked hard for!
Disadvantages: Can be exhausting, boring
...When it comes to revision, we all know how hard it is to get motivated. Once you start going, we know it's not actually all that bad. It's crucial to revise before exams - unless you're one of those lucky people who never need to do it, revising means you're more likely to pass, whichever way you look at it.
Start Early
There's no point in starting to revise the night before your exam (if you can help it!). I'm not a big believer in started revising a year before exams either - I know someone who did that before their GCSEs, and stuff they learned right at the beginning was forgotten about by the time the exams actually came. A couple of months or even a month before should be fine, as long as you pace yourself. It also depends on how many subjects you have. If you're doing GCSE's and like when I did GCSE's had 12 subjects...

A Level Revision
Advantages: There's always a second chance
Disadvantages: This is too late for most students
...It's that time of year again. Being an A level student sucks, for the last 3 years I've had exams, GCSEs, AS, A2... So here's a few tips on how to get through them.
--------------------
Learning
--------------------
If you didn't learn it, you can't revise it. It's a completely different process that schools have spent years mastering. So for one, turn up to the lessons.
Learning takes a long time to do, we actually learn in our sleep. We get fed the information during the day and then it gets downloaded to our long term memory at night.
In order for this to work properly, you need 7 hours worth of sleep every night. You can only store so much in your brain before it has to be downloaded.
Also note that we learn more (and take in more) during the morning, when we've just woken up. Exercise also works and I've been told...

Wise children read this book (run out of puns)
Advantages: Funny, scandalous, happy ending
Disadvantages: Structure leaves a lot to be desired - you might get lost
...I bought this book '3 for £1' from a charity shop having only vaguely heard of Angela Carter, but when faced with a bunch of books I have no idea how to choose from, I usually go for the prettiest cover, or the author with the nicest name. In this case, having found 2 books, and faced with a shelf of unknown authors, I went with the one who shared a name with my mother. Awh.
The Author
Wise Children was Angela Carter's last novel before she died of cancer, aged 51. It is full of references to the works of Shakespeare that surrounded her childhood, introduced by her mother, and the Hollywood films her father took her to see.
She was born in 1940 and during the war lived with her grandmother in Yorkshire who introduced her to the feminism that pervades many of her books. The Bloody Chamber, for example, is one of her...
