The Real Faliraki

Advantages: A great experience with great sites and cheap
Disadvantages: sometimes drunken groups

...Sometimes I get wound up when I know people are dissing Faliraki. So here's a Non-Biased Opinion of mine. Faliraki is like any other tourist destination: Its popular, Its got clubs, restaurants many hotels and lots of british people. Being Rape Captial made my heart sink. Because its not Falirakis fault? Young people are binge drinking in the famous Bar Street and then walking home alone. Wherever you are in the world look after youself. The same would probably happen if i were to be drunk in turkey! Location: Located Very close to Rhodes Town which has everything From Shops such a 3 Floored 'Zara' To many other local fashion shops. Faliraki itself is on the beach and is a very popular location, Bus services are great which means you can catch a bus to Rhodes town and it takes you 10 minutes. Faliraki's bad reputation...

Advantages: Beautiful weather, Cheap bus service, Planned trips
Disadvantages: Potentially dangerous, Not entirely child-friendly atmosphere

...Before heading off to Rhodes with 8 friends, nearly everyone I told about the trip put on a warning face. Once they'd heard we would be spending a week in the "rape capital of Europe", everyone had their own piece of advice to give- always stay in groups of four, carry rape whistles, tasers, pepper spray, attack dogs, all of which definitely would not fit in your handbag along with a camera and those precious euros. The images the media give you of Faliraki, one small town on the island of Rhodes packed full of bars, clubs and restaurants, are of huge groups of British tourists- all members of the 18/30 club or on some package holiday- having drink poured directly down their throats, staggering along the streets and disappearing into dark alleys together. Faliraki not for the fainthearted or is it

Advantages: wall to wall sunshine, lovely beaches and people, loads to do
Disadvantages: crowded and hot in summer months, 2 weeks not long enough

...For those of you who read my last travel report on Cyprus, you will know that this was my best ever holiday, mainly because it was where I got married. But my last holiday to Rhodes came a close second and takes some beating. After much umming and ahhing about where we were going to go for our summer holiday 2 years ago we decided to go to Greece for the first time. Cyprus had got really expensive since our last visit, and I was bored of Spain, so Greece it was. After troughing through brochure after brochure we found the Hotel Espirides in Portland Direct's summer brochure. It looked ideal. It was located just on the outskirts of Faliraki in an area called Kalithea. We thought this would be perfect as it would be away from the noisy nightlife, this being important as our daughter was 4 at the time, and we are past night...

Faliraki - mad

Advantages: Good holiday
Disadvantages: Sally fracturing her foot!

...I went to Faliraki in Rhodes with the girls about 7 years ago (gulp, is it really that long?!) and had a great time. There were 5 of us that went - 3 of us in one apartment and the other 2 (who had booked a few weeks after us) in different accommodation, not far away. We had a great holiday, though it wasn't the most rowdy girls holiday I've been on! Faliraki wasn't as well-known then as it is now - I'm sure if I went back now, there'd be loads more bars. Don't get me wrong, there were lots already, but there was room for more! We tended to stick to the same bars most nights - our favourite was George's Bar, where there was cheap drinks, "spin the wheel" (whatever it landed on was on special offer for 10 mins) and dancing on the bar - a real good laugh. Faliraki Water Park

Advantages: variety of rides, fun day out, enjoyable attractions, fair entry fee, easy to get to
Disadvantages: no straps on locker keys, limited shade on walkways resulting in burning feet, very hilly

We consist of my dad who is 42, my 17 year old brother, my 8 year old brother and myself (I am 20). We all enjoy similar things on holiday and our ideal day is lazing around by the pool and perhaps having a little wander round local villages then having something nice to eat and drink. One thing we all love are decent water parks. So whilst on holiday in Rhodes we planned a day out to the waterpark in Falraki as it was recommended by Thomson and we were able to purchase our tickets through them to save us queuing too much at the park itself. Classical Rhodes

Advantages: A book of sumptuous recipes many of which are used in Rhodes' own restaurants.
Disadvantages: Recipes are generally for more people than you find in the average family.

Rodos Village - Rhodes

Advantages: Family friendly, all inclusive, next to beach
Disadvantages: Insects in rooms, no cash machine, not enough toilets

...Last week I came back from a holiday in Greece. We went to Rhodes and stayed in the Rodos Village in Kiotari. The Rodos Village is a 5 star all-inclusive resort which is situated in the east west coast of the island. We took a taxi from the airport to the hotel (this was a pre-paid transfer from our holiday provider) The taxi took around an hour to get to the hotel. Since our flight was overnight, we arrived at the airport at 4.45am, so it was great to hop into a taxi and get to the hotel quicker than the coach would have taken. We got to the hotel at around 6am. There are not only steps up to the hotel, but also a ramp. It was quite steep but it meant that I could wheel my bag up instead of carrying up the steps (always good if you're tired!) Check in was quick. Rhodes is a Greek Island which is situated in the eastern Aegean Sea just 11 miles from the Turkish Coast (on clear days you get a magnificent view of Turkey). Our choice of this hotel and destination was purely through last minute panic at the beginning of the year where we realised that everywhere was quickly getting booked up! We began hunting through the various Thomsons brochures whilst checking availability on the internet. Rhodes in a Nutshell

Advantages: Golden sandy beaches, great weather, great food
Disadvantages: Euro has made it a little more expensive

...and Jews used to live. I could write all day about the history of Rhodes town and still not capture the essence of it. Mandraki Harbour in Rhodes Town runs regular trips to Marmaris, Athens, and is also easily accessible from Turkey. (So, if you're thinking about a day trip!!!) FALIRAKI Falaraki is the party capital of Rhodes and is definitely for the serious clubber. 5km of golden beaches backed with modern hotels and apartments, restaurants, nightclubs, bars and shops. If you are in Faliraki be sure to check out the water park, plenty of water slides and pools to pass the day away beside. However, it does become quite crowded and you will probably have to queue for a while. A day at the water park will cost you in the region of 17.00 pounds. IXIA Ixia is another modern resort full of hotels, bars and restaurants. Not...

Advantages: Good value, lots to do, lots to see
Disadvantages: Not in the Inidian Ocean or the Carribean

...Rhodes, one of the most famous islands in the world, you just never knew it. Many a movie has been shot on Rhodes, one of the most famous being the Guns of Navarone. Visit Rhodes and relax, well thats a waste of a holiday. Rhodes is full of things to do. In length the island takes about 1 hour to drive and about 20 minutes to drive across. When you go to Rhodes you should be ready for every type of activity; Rock Climbing, take the climbing course and climb the Navarone cliff, as seen on the Guns of Navarone movie; Water Sports are very popular in Rhodes, I recommend the Marco Polo boat tour leaving from Faliraki harbour every morning and afternoon, taking in the local spa at Kalithea, Anthony Quinn bay, several other beaches with snorkelling and a great lunch or evening meal on board boat all for the extortionate cost of £10...
