Rodos Village - Rhodes

Advantages: Family friendly, all inclusive, next to beach
Disadvantages: Insects in rooms, no cash machine, not enough toilets

...access. These were all paying machines. Internet cost ?0.50 for 8 minutes. We tried some of the game machines but a couple of them just ate our money and didn't work! We told reception and there was no problem getting our money back. There is also a laundry service at the hotel. You can fill in a form and the cleaners will pick up your washing. This is quite expensive though. Since we were in London beforehand we were running out of clothes and decided to get some essentials cleaned. This did end up costing us about ?15 though. This also took three days and we were only there for a week! There is no cash machine at the hotel. It is a 5 minute walk to the closest one, which is next to some tourist shops. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel which went all the way into Rhodes city via some other small towns. We did go to some...

Classical Rhodes

Advantages: A book of sumptuous recipes many of which are used in Rhodes' own restaurants.
Disadvantages: Recipes are generally for more people than you find in the average family.

...was an outdoor dinning area covered over with huge umbrellas. This is also done buffet style and much of the food is cooked on a huge barbeque thing. The selection of food was huge every lunch time and was all delicious and fresh. Drinks were served to the tables and we often had a nice cold carafe of white wine with our lunch! Overall this is the best food I have had at a hotel abroad and the selection was very impressive. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Local Excursions ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This review is about the hotel but the location of it means that there are a few particularly good excursions available. Rhodes Town, it's Magic!

Advantages: Lots to see, warm friendly people.
Disadvantages: May be too crowded for some people

...We stayed in Rhodes Town this summer, the first time we have been, and I can honestly say that it is the best place we have ever been to. The place has everything, good restaurants, bars, clubs etc and the beaches, although a little crowded are quite good, notably the one they call "windy" beach where the welcome breeze means you can sunbathe without being overpowered by the heat. We stayed in a central part of what is known as the New Town which is handy for everything. it is about 10 minutes walk to the Old Town which has to be visited to be believed. There must be literally thousands of shops, bars and tavernas within this ancient walled city, all in narrow, cobbled streets which are like a giant labyrinth where you find new places to see each time you visit. Lindos, Rhodes

Advantages: Quiet enough but with the option of a more lively time. The food, the people, the beaches and the weather,
Disadvantages: Hills may not be suitable for some people. The weather, sometimes it can be TOO hot.

...I'm tempted not to say how good Lindos is just in case too many people start going there! I returned to Rhodes after visiting Lindos 10 years ago, I'd always said I'd go back, I just wish I'd not left it so long. The village can only be described as picturesque, set into a hillside and made up of small, white, flat roofed houses, most of which are hundreds of years old. Overlooking the village is the ancient Acropolis, well worth a trip upto, though walking is a bit of a trek. You can take a donkey up there but personally, I find it a bit cruel to have some poor animal carry my 14 stone up a mountain. The other consideration is that you can easily get ringworm off them!! Advantages: Golden sandy beaches, great weather, great food

Advantages: So much on offer! Not just Greece.

...of the sea, and no they dont use air tanks, it's just dive in and weigh yourself down, and pick up as many as you can, a little too scary for me but highly enjoyable. He had me laughing and almost falling over buckets of sponges! Not really any worst buys here, just really a lack of different types of souveniers. Back on Rhodes itself, why not try scuba diving! I had never dived in my life before, or even snorkelled, but I had a ball under the sea. You can join trips at Mandraki Harbour in Rhodes Town which take you round to Kalithea, an old Roman spa resort. This was such a beautiful place to dive and so handy as there's a beach, a diving platform, the old spa site itself and a restaurant, 5 minutes walk away. We seen octopus in a cave, shrimps clinging onto our legs, and fish, fish and more fish gliding across the sea bed. Fantastic!!! Not...

Rhodes.

Advantages: Good value, lots to do, lots to see
Disadvantages: Not in the Inidian Ocean or the Carribean

....; other water sports are available on most beaches, although I would again recommend Faliraki beach where there is lots on offer, but shop around as they vary in price; Nightlife, well the heavy and loud nightlife is restricted to Faliraki and Rhodes Town. Rhodes is more expensive, where as Faliraki is all Happy Hours and Free Shots. Faliraki works off the basis of two roads, Bar Street and Club Street, they are self explanatory. If staying there though be prepared not to sleep.; Sightseeing, there are things to see all over the island, ancient villages, the castle at Lindos, the harbour at Rhodes Town, the monastry at Psambika and the crazy locals with their sponges and artifacts. On the whole two weeks in Rhodes will fly by, there is so much to do....
