Advantages: Quality, service, child friendly, great food, beautiful setting, relaxed and informal Disadvantages: None
...I cannot recommend this resort highly enough. The Tanjung Rhu resort is set at the secluded end of the island away from any hustle and bustle along a mile long white sandy beach. To the front of the resort you have the Andaman sea and to the rear you have the mangroves and rainforest covered hills of Langkawi.
We booked directly with the hotel about 8 months in advance and they offered us a 10% discount via email. We also booked directly with Malaysia Airlines who at the time offered free internal flights from Kuala Lumpur. So, 13 hours to Kuala Lumpur, a 30 minute wait and a free flight to Langkawi. The transfer, arranged by Tanjung Rhu took approximately 25 minutes. I'd recommend Malaysia Airlines having flown many times with them. I've never experienced any delays and the service is second to none. So make sure you book direct...

Review of Tanjung Rhu Resort
Advantages: Peaceful, relaxed, first class service and accommodation Disadvantages: expense
...27/08/02 - The hotel is carrying out some renovation works to frayed decking by the Rhu restaurant and parts of the Sunset Pool. These should be completed by Sept 2002 but work will be in progress between the hours of 10am and 6pm. The hotel assures guests that there should be no disturbance to their stay.
NEWSFLASH : I've just discovered that Sovereign Worldwide holidays have packages to the Tanjung Rhu Resort. No idea of the cost.

If you?re looking for a perfect retreat from the world, where you can chill out and unwind totally, then look no further. The Tanjung Rhu Resort on the Malaysian island of Langkawi has it all. At a price.
We first came across the privately owned Tanjung Rhu resort when we were looking for just such a holiday. Friends recommended it...

Review of Tanjung Rhu Resort
Advantages: Absolutely wonderful staff Disadvantages: Fawlty Towers without Basil
...I took my mum on a 5 day coach tour to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs in September, for her 80th birthday. It was her first big outing for 18 months, as she was knocked down by a hit and run driver in January of last year, and hospitalised for three months, having about 7 operations (we lost count) and left permanently disabled and walking with a stick. She lost her independence and her "get up and go" so I wanted to take her somewhere nice to try to give her a boost.
Anyway, I digress.
When we arrived at the hotel the setting itself was wonderful, Rhu is only a small place but the hotel overlooks Rhu bay and in itself looks very impressive, so we were hopeful that it would be a good stay. The staff when we arrived could not have been more helpful, and our bags were whisked up to our rooms within minutes of arrival (there being...

Review of Rosslea Hall Hotel, Rhu
...as they are building a bypass round the village.
After leaving the A 830 turning onto the coastal road for about 1 ½ miles there is a turn to Rhu on the left. keep straight on in to Arisiag
The instant we turned into the village we are met with the view of the bay loch na ceall, Arisaig harbour which opens to the Atlantic ocean.. The bay is a picture the rocky craggy coastline, the view over the harbour several boats moored and the rocky outline of the cove. The beach itself at Arisaig is pebbly rocky and has a lot of seaweed collected on it not really ideal for putting your deckchair on and playing in the sand , but there are several beaches very close which are perfect for making sandcastles and digging holes. Although we had not visited for 15 years I do not think the village of Arisaig has changed much. There is the new road...

Review of Arisaig, Scotland
Advantages: tropical, duty free Disadvantages: boring, no night life
...------------
Make sure you visit some of the top resorts in Langkawi. Notibly Datai Bay Resort, Damai Resort and Tanjung Rhu Resort. These are the top resorts which have to themselves the most beautiful beaches in langkawi. You simply have not seen the best of the beaches in Langkawi till you've visited these resorts. Staying there would be heaven, but not affordable to everyone. It will probably cost you about £500 a night to stay in one of those 6 star resorts. You will be impressed by them when you visit them.
-----------------------GENERAL-----------------------------------------
Other great visits in langkawi include the bird paradise, the 7 wells and really just sit back under the sun, pick up a book and enjoy the sea breeze.
Language: English
Cost: VERY cheap
Food: Malaysian cuisine, fast food outlets
Accomodation: VERY cheap...
Advantages: Cheap rail, bus and ferry travel within Strathclyde area! Disadvantages: busy trains at peak times, not all bus companies accept the ticket!
...'t close properly, or the train just doesn't have them at all! The conductors are always usually quite friendly in most of the trains I've been on, can't be the best job in the world walking up and down a train all day long!
With the SPT daytripper ticket I mentioned you can also travel on some of Strathclyde's bus services, here is a list of the companies which accept them
Arriva
First Glasgow
First Edinburgh
Garelochhead Minibuses
Henderson Travel

Lippen
Rowe & Tudhope Coaches
Stagecoach Fife
Stagecoach Glasgow
Stagecoach Western
William Stokes & Sons

A good idea if you are planning to travel anywhere would be to check out Arriva's timetable first?as they cover a lot of the west coast!

Advantages: A beautiful, scenic, and peaceful island Disadvantages: Not many shops
...across the north of the island, stopping at the exclusive Datai resort, were we visited their "private" beach, imagine having a gorgeous 2mile stretch of white sand all to yourselves,it was bliss!!!.We visited the arts and crafts centre, where local artists and craftsmen were busy at work. We drove to the Tanjung rhu beach, this we thought was the best beach on the island, a lovely curving arc of white sand, hot, clear water and beatiful scenery,to gaze at.We went on a boat trip to the pular payer national park, this was a fantastic day out,we went with Langkawi coral who were excellant, they take you to this huge floating platform ,you eat your dinner on here, there are sunbeds, and a underwater viewing platform. All masks snorkles ,etc are provided ,and the fish are amazing,we swam with baby sharks, there is a beach you can swim to if you want a break...
Advantages: Too many to mention Disadvantages: All too fleeting
...other photography enthusiasts on the terrace of the visitors’ centre, eager to capture the constantly changing light as the sun slipped closer and closer to the horizon.
An unforgettable experience.
3) Dancing in the rain on New Year’s Eve
Last Christmas we had the most wonderful holiday in Malaysia, at the Tanjung Rhu hotel. This is an outstanding resort on the unspoilt island of Langkawi, close to the Thai border.
At that time of the year, the weather is changing from the wet to the dry season, and it is virtually unheard of to have rain on New Year’s Eve.
The hotel went to great trouble to set out tables on the terraces of the three on-property restaurants, and we were also enthused by the sound of a first-class band rehearsing during the afternoon. We were set for a memorable evening. We dressed up in our finery...
Advantages: Lovely scenery, people, food, places to visit Disadvantages: Those pesky mosquitoes!
...104 islands with Langkawi being the main one, and every time you turn a corner you can see another island in the background. Some of the nicest beaches are:
Pantai Kok that is a sweeping bay – at the time of my visit there was some construction work right next to it, but when that is finished it will be lovely once again.
Tanjung Rhu in the north is a very peaceful beach, which is really nice place to take in the scenery and really relax.
Black Sands beach is rather strange and is only a small stretch. From this beach you can see the massive Cement Factory that spoils the view somewhat and had me wondering if that was why the sand was black!
Pantai Cenang is where the main activity seems to be with lots of bars, restaurants and hotels. If I were to go back to Langkawi I would stay here. There are chalets right on the beach that...
