Fabulous Fès
Advantages: Not as "touristy" as other parts of Morocco, steeped in history, a beautiful city
Disadvantages: Beware small children and Moroccan men

When I arrived in Fez
Advantages: Stunning
Disadvantages: Easy to get lost
...it was by bus and it was sunset. Fez is a medieval walled city and the road approach goes to the main wall gates. Set in the desert with the sun setting behind it and thousands of the bird which roost in the ancient walls swirling and calling around the city, it was an amazing sight. And once you're inside, it gets even better. The ancient part of the town is the medina, the old Arab quarter...

Two weeks in Central Morocco
Advantages: It's cheap, fascinating, beautiful and not even that far.
Disadvantages: The hassle.....
...in comparison to Western prices. Cast iron lamps, jewellery, carpets (really rugs), fantastic ceramics, spices and textiles make up the majority of the goods on offer. You are usually expected to haggle for what you buy, as is applicable for taxi rides and many other amenities.
