Rice Rice Baby
Review of Breville RC 3 by
tester30
Advantages: ease of use and ease of cleaning
Disadvantages: rice foam bubbles out the sides if too much water is added
...The rice cooker was bought to replace another rice cooker with a hinge style lid. No problems with its operation and the instructions in the booklet were spot on for the measures of rice to water. It's very reliable and consistent in its operation.
However there is a lot of steam when cooking so it needs a window to let the steam out otherwise the walls get steamed and you do get a lot of rice foam bubbling over the lid and down the sides of the cooker. Having said that the outer case and bowl and lid are all very easy to clean. And after some use you soon get the balance of rice to water and washing just right to minimise the overflow from the cooker. The cooker is in use almost every day so I would rate this for use and reliability and ease of cleaning. Also the steamer tray is well designed it has lift up handles so you can get...

Nice Rice!
Review of Tefal 3682.15 by
Lizzieanne15
Advantages: So easy to use
Disadvantages: None so far!
...I received the Tefal 3.2l Classic automatic rice cooker as a present from my Mum - Good old Mum!
To be honest, whenever I thought about the concept of a rice cooker, I thought, "What's the point?" Surely a saucepan or a microwave would cook rice just as well? Every friend I asked agreed with this theory - they all seem to either boil rice in a saucepan on the hob or in a microwave.
So it was with trepidation that I first tried out my new rice cooker one lunchtime, to make a risotto. I thought, mistakenly, that you could only cook plain rice in this new gadget, but the instruction leaflet contains recipes for risottos, pasta, steamed vegetables and fruit.
My rice cooker looks much like a slow cooker, with a non-stick internal bowl plus a basket that sits inside the bowl. The basket is used for steaming fruit and veg...

From an eastern perspective
Review of Kenwood RC305 by
vids
Advantages: cooks rice perfectly
Disadvantages: not multi functional
...Before talking about this Kenwood rice cooker, I would like to talk about cooking rice from an eastern perspective.
Growing up in the Far East, it is hard for me to imagine why a lot of western people boil rice in large quantity of water and throw the water away (I know rice is cooked differently in places like Italy or Spain but I'm not going into that). Our mothers always told us that by doing the above, all the flavour and nutrients are gone with the water AND it is more likely to have rice porridge than proper rice. After living in England for many years, I realised that this may be because people here prefer long grain rice, which does not have as much starch coming out during boiling. So, what do people do in the East then? First, we like rice a bit more sticky. In fact, when you go to Chinese, Japanese, Korean or Thai restaurant...

A Must For Rice Eaters
Review of Goldair Rice Cooker and Food Steamer by
elvina
Advantages: So easy to cook great rice
Disadvantages: None
...After my husband went on a trip to Japan he returned saying that we must get a rice cooker, apparently everyone over there has one. I was a bit dubious but we bought one. We bought the Goldair PRS50230. Not only does it cook rice but it can be used to steam food such as vegetables, meat and fish on a little steamer basket that comes with it.
We bought this model because of the price, it was one of the cheapest on the market at the time at about £25.00.
It was a good buy. It is so easy to cook rice in it, no more getting the rice overcooked, undercooked or just horrible. The important thing is to wash the rice well first in cold water till the water comes clear. You then add the measured amount of rice (using the measure supplied) and measured amount of cold water to the steamer, put the lid on and turn it on. No fuss...
