Sports Club in Kinston upon Thames

Advantages: good facilities and not too busy
Disadvantages: quite expensive compared to other sports clubs

...Many of my friends live in Kingston and are members of the Esporta gym on the Richmond Road. When they told me that I could get a days free membership trial if I entered my details on their website I jumped at the chance. The gym is in a good location, approximately three minutes walk from kingston train station. I made good use of my days trial, had a swim in the pool, used the steam room and sauna and afterwards even did a quick gym workout. The swimming pool was very nice and I was suprised how empty it was considering it was the weekend. They had designated swimming lanes in place for those wanting to do a good workout, aswell as plenty of extra pool space for those just wanting to relax. I was told several times by my friends that there was loads of equipment in the gym and there is, although a number of the machines...

The Thames Barrier

Advantages: saves London from flooding
Disadvantages: looks quite ugly

...the river. Most of the barrier is actually underwater. These can be raised using hydraulic winches which raise the barrier by rotating it through ninety degrees. Each of the four segments then lock into place to complete a wall like structure which blocks the whole width of the river. The barrier officially opened in May 1984 and total construction costs reached £534,000,000. It doesn't really get as much recognition as it deserves because it is great at it's job, protecting London from the threat of flooding due to storm surges which travel down the North Sea and into the River Thames. It is also the second largest flood barrier in the world, the largest being in the Netherlands for obvious reasons due to the fact that the majority of the country is at or below sea-level. I hope you have found this review quite interesting. (This review...

The Riches of Richmond

Advantages: Great for familly and anyone wishing to get healthy and enjoy sport
Disadvantages: Too far for me to go

...~~RICHMOND OLYMPIC OVAL~~ The day before we were due to fly back from Canada, we decided to do a dry run to the airport to make sure we knew the route, as it would be the first time we did the route unaccompanied. Mom came with us and she asked if we would take her to see the newly build Richmond Olympic Oval; well you don?t have to ask me twice, I love visiting buildings both new and old ones, but I do prefer the older ones. So after a few hiccups we found ourselves at the Oval. Richmond BC appears to be the ideal setting for such a sporting facility as the town claims to have the longest life expectancy and the lowest obesity rates in all of Canada, so where else would they launch a new sport and fitness centre, which will also host the speed skating and other events in the 2010 Winter Olympics and the Paralympics games...

One of the Great Attractions of the Thames

Advantages: Interesting. Architectural & Engineering Feat
Disadvantages: Not many

...One of the greatest attractions that London has is the River Thames.including the highly impressive Thames Barrier in the east of the river. Unfortunately this great river has not always been fully appreciated but I think it gives London a wonderful recreational and aethetic asset which at long last is being better realised. The Barrier itself is worth a visit and there is a Museum if you want to dig deeper into its role, history and such like. Long ago the Romans recognised the great importance of the Thames and as Britain became the leading industrial and commercial nation in the world this fine river played a very important role. The produce from numerous countries around the world was transported along the Thames to the London docks and equally produce from the"workshop of the World" found its way to many different parts...

Upon Westminster Bridge-Wordsworth/London-Blake

Advantages: Memorable poem!
Disadvantages: N/A

...suspect, have been an unwelcome visitor to Blake as a person who held strong anti-establishment views, and Wordsworth as he was not a proponent of the industrial revolution but a Romantic. The titles in themselves state vague opinions of the respective poets about the city, Wordsworth's title: "composed upon Westminster Bridge" is in a way romantic and euphoric when compared with Blake's "London" - he is dismissing it as London and giving it no other credit for the huge industrialised machine that it has become. One should note that Blake's poem was written at the end of a centaury where as Wordsworth's was written at the beginning of the next, suggesting that the latter would be more imaginative and appreciative, as with the turn of any centuary comes new beginnings, modernisation and general new-found appreciation for the new. Wordsworth...

Review of Upon Westminster Bridge - William Wordsworth

Richmond - not rich in content unfortunately.

Advantages: Quite cheap. Look like sausages.
Disadvantages: A pitiful 42% pork content. Quite chewy. Far too much salt per sausage.

...When it comes to meat products I am a very fussy person. Only the best will do for me. But I have only been so concerned with what I eat in the last year or so, and it pains me to say it, but Richmond Sausages were the defining factor in this. Looking for a meaty accompaniment to my dinner one day I picked up a pack of Richmond Thick Irish Recipe Sausages for the what seemed a reasonable price of £2.19 for 8. Concealed in their rather plain green and white packaging, you can see for yourself the sausages, and from the outside they do look like your standard banger. However, this is as far as the likeness goes. Once I had cooked them, they had shrunk to about half the original size of what they were (not a good start). Again, after being cooked for around 25 minutes, the outside looked perfectly normal; a crisp dark brown colour as I...

Dine Like a Mogul in Walton-on-Thames

Advantages: Excellent food and service. Convivial atmosphere. Value for money.
Disadvantages: A little off the beaten track, but otherwise none to speak of.

..., as Walton-on-Thames station is on the opposite end of town, well over a mile away. This being outer London suburbia, buses are not a realistic option either. FIRST IMPRESSIONS Our introduction to the Mogul came through our letterbox. They do an excellent and reliable take-away service, but it wasn?t entirely obvious from the literature that they had a full service restaurant. I noticed a significant discount being offered on orders for collection, so one evening, I made the short journey up the road to retrieve our dinner and was surprised to find myself at a relatively well-heeled establishment, heaving with punters ? at 7pm on a Thursday night! There were at least four or five other people waiting to collect their dinner in a thoughtfully placed waiting area with comfy chairs and slightly out of date magazines, so I immediately...

Richmond Capital of the Confederacy

Advantages: Cheap accommadation and food but of reasonable quality
Disadvantages: Everything shuts on a Sunday so if you are in a B&B make sure you stock up on grub

...During a holiday to America I travelled to Richmond, Virginia and had a thoroughly enjoyable three days in this culturally and architecturally rich city. Getting there: Road: It is about 2-2 ½ hours drive from Washington By Amtrak: Very comfortable and cheap but does not exactly provide a central dropping off point By Greyhound: Cheap way of travelling but again it drops you on the outskirts of the city By Air: Richmond airport is only really an option if you intend to pick up a car there as it is 10-12 miles outside the city Accommodation: Virtually all the accommodation in this city is very reasonably priced as it has a university and has to cater for students for when they first arrive. One useful facility was a central reservation line that could be called to book rooms in the participating hotels in the scheme. If you do...

The most attractive hotel in Kingston

Advantages: nice rooms, great bar and restaurant
Disadvantages: quite pricey

...further is Kingston station which will take you into London and there are many bus routes available. The only downside to the hotel was the price, rooms start from £100.00 and rise up to £170.00 for the top suites, which is quite expensive. In total there are 37 rooms at the hotel so there is lots of variety to choose from and this is shown in the price you pay. On the whole I thought it was a very nice hotel, the food in the restaurant is fantastic and the bar at the front is great to unwind in when the weather is nice because you can sit outside. I would definitely recommend this hotel to people who are staying for a few days, but if you need a longer stay then it may not be the best hotel to go for as it is rather small. **** Address: 1 High Street, Hampton Wick, Kingston, KT1 4DA Tel: 020 8977 1786 E: whiteharthotel...

LONDON'S CALLING

Advantages: Pleasent stay, good food, central location
Disadvantages: Views from room

...eateries/drinking places and chose 372, which offers carvery selection. I was surprise how hot and fresh the food was. Not only that it was tasty too! We opted for lamb with roast potatoes, new potatoes and three vegetables. However, my only complaint about the meal was the vegetables; they were a tad on the raw side for my liking. That said I ALWAYS OVER cook my veggies. Dessert was for me home made apple pie and cream, while the other half opted for home made cheesecake ? both were consumed without any complaints and very much enjoyed. Our meal for two with drinks cost £29) Hotel: the hotel it situated in the Strand which is in central London and easy to walk to theatres such as the Aldwych, Lyceum, and many more. Come out the front of the hotel and turn right, and you?ll be heading towards Trafalgar square with Nelson, bear left and you...
