Hotel Praga, Madrid, Spain
Advantages: Cheaper than city, clean and tidy,
Disadvantages: location, language
...I went to visit spain in april 2008 for my birthday and stayed at hotel praga for 3 days. It is located out of the centre but not too far away, there is a metro station 5 min from the hotel which is great and easy to use, the same as the one in london if that makes it easier for you. its 1 euro for a one way ticket, the down side is the staff dont exactly speak alot of english, which can be tricky at busy times of the day.We got a taxi from the airport which cost about 27-28 euro, easy to check in and all they require is your passport and a credit card. The rooms were very clean and tidy with towels being changed all the time. It had good room service and a mini bar which wasnt that expensive, it had a marble bathroom and good space for clothes and other stuff. It had a nice big bar area downstairs, but for the area it was in there wasnt...

The Blue Notebooks
Advantages: Elegant, modern, traditional yet unique
Disadvantages: Not enough people will ever listen to it
...Max Richter's The Blue Notebooks meant nothing to me until suggested that I might enjoy it. Fair enough, says I and so I went to take a look at reviews. I found little but what I did find intrigued me. I also found you couldn't buy it.
Well, there goes that idea.
Anyhow. Suddenly finding myself in Rough Trade in Covent Garden (nope, it's not a brothel), browsing amongst the Philip Glass and the Brian Eno I discover The Blue Notebooks. I run to the counter (well, running is impossible in RT) and pay my money. Once home I put the CD into the stereo and await the results. I've built Max Richter up in my mind for some reason and suddenly there's dread. This will be a DISAPPOINTMNT as it really can't match up to my expectations.
Oh, foolish, foolish man that I am.
The Blue Notebooks surpassed my expectations completely...

Richter rocks my socks
Advantages: Great sound, loud, great price.
Disadvantages: Heavy! also poor handle position.
...The Laney RBC410 is a bass speaker cabinet from the Richter range. I has 4 10 inch speakers and a tweeter, and can handle 240 Watts of power.
The RBC is designed to be used in conjunction with the RBH700 head amplifier, and like the RBH, the RBC is excellent value for money. At a mere £280 (maybe less if you shop around), you wont find a brand new 4 by 10 for any cheaper. And even though its a cheap price, the quality of the product is not cheap.
The range of sounds from this cab is excellent as it has a wide frequency range.
The tweeter adds greatly to the frequency range, and it is switchable. Personally, i dont like to have much treble on my sound, so i turn the tweeter off, which means that the switch is a great feature for me.
The 10 inch speakers may not be as good as a 15 inch speaker for low end, but they can...

Angels and Demons, a gripping story made into a good film
Advantages: A compelling story, great music
Disadvantages: Too fast-paced, once the film has been seen for the first time a repeat viewing seems worse
...Angels and Demons is a prequel to the Blockbuster hit movie Da Vinci Code released in 2006. It focuses, again, on Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks), a Harvard Religious Symbologist who is called upon by a member of the Vatican Police to solve a mystery regarding four kidnapped cardinals. Accompanying Langdon this time is the beautiful Vittoria Vetra (Ayelet Zurer), a CERN physicist who discovers her research partner dead and a bottle of anti-matter stolen. As the story progresses we meet the characters that appear in every thriller film, the misunderstood antagonist, Commander Richter (Stellan Skarsgård) the head of the Swiss Guard, the equally misunderstood assistant Patrick McKenna (Ewan McGregor) and the "nice guy" who meets his demise, Inspector-Generale Olivetti (Pierfrancesco Favino), the head of the Vatican Police.
As the film...

Rock on!
Advantages: Brilliant lyrics and catchy tunes
Disadvantages: One or two songs aren't great
...Michael learns to Rock is a popular band whose members come from Denmark. The members are Jascha Richter, Soren Madsen, Mikkel Lentz and Kare Wanscher who play the keyboard, guitar and percussion, guitar and keyboard, and drums and percussion respectively. Their album 'Greatest Hits' is a great album featuring songs such as 'Paint My Love', 'Love Will Never Die' and 'Breaking My Heart'. Michael Learns to Rock is a great collector's CD, one you would like to listen to every now and then. In my opinion, all devote music fans should have this CD in their collections - it's not that often that such a great band comes from Denmark!...

Science versus Religion (Angels and Demons)
Advantages: Good action filled film
Disadvantages: Does not follow the book 100% and feels a bit rushed
...the role of Vittoria Vetra (A CERN scientist)
Stellan Skarsgard plays Commander Maximillian Richter (Head of Swiss Guard)
Pierfrancesco Favino plays Ernesto Olivetti (Inspecter in the Gendarme Corps of Vatican City State.)
A. Mueller-Stahl plays Cardinal Strauss (Cardinal who is in charge of conclave)
Is it any good?
Well as I said I am a big fan of the book and I think if I hadn't read the book then I probably would have enjoyed the film a lot more. The film misses out some rather large bits of the book but then I suppose they cant get a whole book into two hours, the start of the film is completely different to the book, in the book Robert Langdon is called in by the Director of CERN to help them figure out who killed there scientist so he spends quite a bit of time at he science facility where as in the film he is called in by the Vatican...

D For Deprived Of And Not A Laura Fun
Advantages: There's some attention to detail in the graphics, game is over quickly
Disadvantages: Slow moving, can only time out, disappoints for scares, painful puzzles
...Suddenly, from life saver to mass murderer - what has driven Richter Harris, doctor and director of a hospital, and a decent dude, to do such dreadful deeds? His daughter Laura drives down to the Los Angeles hosptial to find out...
I've seen D dubbed as a survival horror. But the game fails for frights - this coming from someone whom scares easy. And it's a game where you cannot die, despite the spiked booby traps, a battle with a suit of armour, and a boulder dash down a set of stairs - it being game over should the two hour time limit run out. D demands you set aside an hour or two to play as there's no pause function or save feature.
D doesn't do depth, and whatever does go on in this graphic adventure happens slowly. The puzzles can be a pain. There's a safe whereby opening it is almost akin to playing a slot machine, but...

Hoovers, Horns and Basslines...
Advantages: One of the best mixed Hard House compilations out there. Cost around 11.99.
Disadvantages: Be careful when you start pogoin' around your room!!
...of the highlights are tracks by Ingo 'Like This', Nick Lunn 'Wait a Second' and Nick Rafferty's own 'Jumpin'/Pumping' along with well known favourites Storm 'Time to Burn', Praga Khan 'Injected with a Poison' and B.K 'Ready for this'.
Forget your 'Hard House Nation' 1,2,3's or 'Euphoria' compilations and head for the real deal. For similar alternatives you could try the Tidy Trax 'Milked' or Nucleuz compilations.
If your a dedicated clubber watch out for these two names, Nick Rafferty and Andy Farley, as they will be appearing at various promotions nights and believe me they're well worth seeing live tearing up the decks!!...
