...John Rico wants to be a citizen of the Federation and joining the Federation Forces is guaranteed to lead to citizenship. Cheap Reeds For Clarinet, But Poor Quality

Disadvantages: low quality, split easily

...Rico clarinet reeds were the first ones I was introduced to when I started to play clarinet. These a re natural reeds and tend to vary in quality. I started with a very soft one (they range form 1 to 5) and progressed through to a three. I have never got any further. Reeds can be expensive and beginning and less practised clarinet players tend to go through quite a lot of them. I have found a few split reeds and ones that were so thin that they were almost like paper at their tips among the reeds in a box of Rico standard ones. Rico reeds are cheap but they are also low quality. The Rico reeds tend to take time to break in and once they are suitably moist and playing well, they tend to split and have to be replaced. The Vandoren reeds are more expensive and they last longer but they tend to be a little bit harder than the Rico...

On the Edge of Despair

Advantages: Dark, moody, industrial/trip-hop
Disadvantages: A few angsty cliches, largely ignored by record label/public

...I don't imagine many of you have heard of Rico, which is a shame. Sanctuary Medicines was certainly one of the best debuts of 1999 - the Rock Sound readers poll of that year voted him second best British newcomer, behind only runaway winners Muse - but unfortunately record labels politics meant his follow up took five years, and never achieved a very high profile, despite his appearing on Top Of The Pops alongside Gary Numan on the Top 20 collaboration 'Crazier'. (Why do EMI screw over so many good artists?) Those familiar with Gary Numan's Hybrid may therefore have some idea what to expect. He's certainly adopted a darker, heavier, industrial style in his last few efforts, and in that respect Rico is not a surprising partner. This review is about Rico Reeds, but it's hard to talk about them without giving some comparison with the main competitor, since your basic purchasing decision will be between these two brands. Here's what Vandoren say about their standard B flat Clarinet Reeds: "The most widely played Reeds in the professional world." And here's what Rico claim about their most similar product: "The world's most popular Reed." One thing you may be able to deduce from this is that Vandoren Reeds are better and also more expensive. They produce a better tone for professionals, who are more picky about these things than amateurs. However, there are many more amateurs piping away in their bedrooms on a Sunday afternoon than there are professionals, and they tend to choose Rico, so they can't be all bad...

The word 'carnage' has its roots in the Latin word 'Carne' meaning flesh and still means meat in most of the romance languages. The reason it is pertinent here is that this restaurant offers a veritable orgy of meat; Meat of every description, inside and outside the animal. There is a strong vegetarian element to the menu but most of the vegetarians I know would feel a little uncomfortable in this restaurant for the reasons I will explain. ...Having never been to Gran Canaria before booking our last minute deal there was like walking into a room with your eyes shut. I was not to be disappointed! We booked with Virgin Sun (I believe virgin sun finished just after we flew with them - and virgin are now only doing trans atlantic flights). We were met at the airport and taken to Puerto Rico. As we came around the mountain the rep announced that our apartments were "up there" (Right at the top of the mountain!) my jaw nearly hit the floor. The veiw looked amazing. When we got to our apartments (Monte Parasio apartments) we went to our rooms. They were spacious, everything you needed for self catering accomodation. Advantages: good night life, great weather, cheap

...I travelled to Peurto Rico with Thomson from Stansted airport. The flight was fine, no delays or other problems. There were no problems at the airport in Las Parmas either. I stayed for two weeks at the Canaima apartments. I had read a few reviews about these apartments before travelling, and they showed mixed opinions. I had no complaints. The apartments were clean and spacious. The self catering facilities included a fridge freezer, 2 ring hob, kettle and toaster. Unfortunately I cant tell you anything about the restaurant as I never ate there, but the bar was good. They have karaoke on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and sometimes have special bqq nights. If you are travelling to Peurto Rico, be aware of the steps. Anyone with mobility problems shoud not go here. everything is either up or down a mountain. Most hotels are up...
