Didn't Ricoh used to manage Arsenal?

...The first thing many readers will think when looking at this review is "oh my god" how ugly is that camera?", and possibly as a secondary thought, "who the hell are Ricoh, didn't he once manage Arsenal?". The answers to these questions are so obviously yes, it is a ugly mother of a camera and no, that was Bruce Rioch, but I stray from the subject matter so on with my thoughts on the camera. Cost & Availability: I will admit here, I don't own the Ricoh Caplio R6, but I have used it regularly now for over 4 months both larking around and while giving serious demonstrations to the potential buyers. More often than not the price is a big turn off with most customers. We are an independent electrical retailer and we have this item tagged at £279.99 in our shop but this does include a 2GB memory card. The cheapest I have seen this...

Lens Problems on R series Caplios

Advantages: Features, looks, lens zoom range
Disadvantages: Reliability

...I've just sent my daughters back for repair just 9 months after buying it. The lens has jammed permanently open with the motor making nasty grinding noises & no image. Looking on the web, this seems be a very common problem with R4-R7 cameras with at least 11 others returning units for repair - often just after the waranty with big repair bills - upto 2/3 the value of the camera. Even after repairs, the problem seems to re-occur. Buyers beware! I think Ricoh have pushed the lens/body ratio a bit too far to the point of serously affecting reliability. My daughter was really upset as it failed 1/3 way into her holiday & it was her pride & joy - she really looked after it! Won't buy a Ricoh camera again - when you spend £170 on a camera you expect it to last longer than 9 months!...

The Perfect Camera?

Advantages: Great range of options, Stylish, Very sofisticated.
Disadvantages: The Price, A few minor flaws.

....5(W)-4.4(T) and 3 wide-angle optical zoom lenses. The GX100 bright 24mm focal length really opens up the possibilities for subjects like landscapes and urban areas to really shine. The cameras 72mm telephoto length however still has the capability to handle all your portrait and head shots however. The true wide angle setting on this device is great for photographers like me to take still street and landscape photos. The GX100 features a 10 megapixel sensor and to my knowledge is the first Ricoh camera to do so. One of the reasons I chose this camera above other similar models was because of its high pixel count. Not impressed by Caplio RR120

Advantages: Cheap, easy to use and light in weight
Disadvantages: Cheap plastic internal parts cause failures

...After doing some research on the web I purchased an RR120 a few years ago to take on holiday. Picture quality was good and it seemed a good buy. My farther-in-law liked the look of it and also bought one. Three months later he had to send his back after it started clicking then stopped working. Ricoh sent a replacement which worked for just under a year before the same thing happened to that. Mine developed the same fault after about 18 months so I took it apart to locate the fault. The auto focus/zoom intermediate transfer gearing is made of cheap plastic and is a push-fit with nothing to secure it in place. If the camera gets a slight - and I mean slight - knock in the wrong place one of the pinions pops out of place. Super easy use camera for holidays

Advantages: Macro, Slim Design, Superfast startup.
Disadvantages: Poor Night Photos

...Ricoh Caplio R1 Lenght 10cm Depth 5.5cm and less than 2.5cm Thick which is quiet amazing because on start up the lense comes out just under 2cm and 3.5cm at full zoom. The R1 is silver as the picture shows but also comes in black. The lens is a wide angle 28mm lens with a zoom upto 135mm and a macro mode that allows you to focus as close as 1cm now that is dam good. Another amazing thing about this camera is the shutter respons time, which i would say is under 1 second, fantastic for capturing those suprise moments instantly.Start up time is considerably slowed when the flash is needed which was left out by the chap who was selling me the camera. You can capture movies and sound at 320x240 pixels can't comment on this as i have never used it. Transfering photos and movies is easy just connect usb lead to your computer...
