My Riesen d'etre

Advantages: wondeful intense dark chocolate and chewy toffee
Disadvantages: may be too strong for some

...Who says that adverts don't work? I am sure that we all remember adverts for countless products. Alas I am sure that the point of adverts is to get us to buy the product and not remember the actual advert (we just have to remember to buy it that's all). So how come I can remember the adverts better than the products? Take Riesen for example. I can remember the adverts, various people doing ordinary things and eating Riesen or some such nonsense. And I am certain that I tried Riesen but I couldn't remember much about them. I think I might have liked them but all I can remember is people eating Riesen while sitting in a car. Very bizarre (ooh it rhymes). So while taking advantage of a 5 for £1 deal (thank you Farm Foods) I took the opportunity to revisit Riesen. What's the reason for Riesen?

Advantages: Cheap, nice texture
Disadvantages: Plain, dull, uninteresting

...Riesen consists of three small rectangle portions of chocolate toffee wrapped in a thin layer of...more chocolate! Mmmmm, you might think. You can never have enough of the creamy, smooth and moorish chocolate flavour. That UK perception of how chocolate should be is perhaps the problem that leads Riesen to fail. Riesen's chocolate is neither smooth, creamy nor moorish. Riesen is made from the rather bland variety of chocolate that is more common in other parts of europe. I guess it just doesn't feel at home on a UK tongue. Price 30p is refreshingly cheap compared to other chocolate products. Sadly this is the only exciting thing about Riesen. ...Being that my English is not as hot as it might be, and that there might indeed be the odd spelling error due to the inadequacies of Microsoft software one may be forgiven for thinking that the title of this review indicated the existence of some kind of railed form of transport. Alas this is not the case I shall instead be giving you my interpretation of the delights of the Riesen toffees. Now your outlay here will be in the region of 55p - 65p depending on where you purchase, and on the availability. I mentioned the later because lately I have found it increasingly difficult to obtain a packet of these chewy sensations. They arrive to the consumer in a dark seductive and sultry wrapping which immediately indicates that the contents are wicked, which indeed they are. A dark chewy experience.

...Riesen. I wonder why it is that I have never eaten risen toffee covered in chocolate before. I was feeling in need of something sweet and picked this up in a local shop and found the sweet rather nice. . I think this sweet is available in larger bags of individually wrapped sweets, but I bought the 45g packet containing 5 sweets that were not individually wrapped cast me 30p I seem to remember. The wrapper is a dark brown with RIESEN boldly written in yellow across the wrapper. Tearing open the pack is easy and I disclose 5 rectangular chunks of a chewy chocolate covered chocolate toffee. Sniffing the chocolate they smell sweet and like bitter cocoa. I like my chocolate like my men....

Advantages: Not too sweet, dark and seductive

......dark and seductive. I was introduced to Riesen a year ago, and instantly fell in love. I know that everyone's entitled to their personal opinion, but when I saw the only other op on this product was telling people it was bland, I simply had to ad my voice! I can understand why it's not everyone's cup of tea. After all, we've been brought up on a diet of sickly Cadbury's chocolate (which I was once told couldn't be sold in Europe as chocolate because it didn't have a high enough cocoa volume - whether that's true or not, I don't know). Riesen is much more sultry and sophisticated than that. The (approx) 3/4inch square x 1/2 inch thick lump has a glorious dark chocolate outer shell which cracks seductively when you sink your teeth into it, or melts warmly as you suck. Advantages: Drop in replacement for 5 inch car speakers. Reasonable bass response
Disadvantages: Tweeter breaks easily, distorts at volume. Expensive for what you get.

Grandad's favourites
