...Rimini is not my idea of a perfect destination in Italy, but it's close to San Marino, which isn't a perfect destination in Italy either when you come to think of it. Anyway, Rimini worked out fine for us last year as we wanted to visit San Marino and the choice of hotels was so much better. That's why we went there - now for where we went there. We opted for the Ramada Villa Rosa, mainly for the location it has to be said, but also because it looked a half decent hotel at a half decent price (80 euros). The location couldn't be any better. It's 5 minutes from the historic town centre, sits right on the main drag just across the road from the beach and surrounded by bars and restaurants. We weren't really there for the beach, the historic town centre wasn't up to much but the bars and restaurants held a little more appeal...

Review of Ramada Villa Rosa, Rimini

Cattolica - a gem of an Italian town

Advantages: Sun, sea, sand, food and love!
Disadvantages: None for me

...and cheese. Cattolica is a very pretty seaside town with a marina. It has a wonderful beach which consistently gets awarded for its cleanliness (blue flag I think). It is much smaller than Rimini, but much more stylish in my opinion. Its not perfect, because it is a tourist destination. You will find just as many Italians there, as you will Germans and other scandinavian nationalities. The Italians take their annual holiday in August, and Cattolica is very popular with them. I take this as a good sign, as you know you are going to go somewhere with some level of authenticity. There are hundreds of hotels and apartments and sadly they do cater to some British tastes in the cafes....serving fry-ups and chips and even some German food. Whenever I go on holiday I want to live and eat locally. "When in Rome" as they say! Ignoring the tourist...

Sun, sea and sand galore

Advantages: Price, Beach, Facilities for children, Shopping
Disadvantages: Paying on the beach, Mainly German tourists,

...Having always wanted to visit Italy I thought I'd try a week long break with my 7 year old daughter in Rimini. Booking both flight and hotel via the internet I was amazed at how little it cost - £79 per person flight and £130 for us both in an attractive three storey hotel situated literally right on the beach front - no roads to cross or anything. Now Rimini may have a reputation as being the "Benidorm" of Italy but believe me it has so much more to offer. We stayed in the resort of Torre Pedrera which was about 1km up the beach from Rimini centre, and it was perfect - busy but very friendly and personal. The beach (10km long) was spotless and all the usual water attractions were available. What made it excellent for children was the fact that along the whole of the beach there were parks, waterslides and trampolines - all available...

EDREAMS for the real truth

...WWW.EDreams.com is a very busy web. It not only allows you book holidays, hotels and car hire etc.. BUT it give you very good personal opinions on where you are going. I was recently going to Rimini, Italy and although I had been before many years ago I couldn't remember what area was best. Basically this is how Edreams work firstly click on Guides then on the country..up pops a list of people you can email about where you are going..I choose Max because he lives in Rimini and speaks english. I asked him about the Hotel I was planning on booking and back came the reply within 24 hours...(The hotel in not in the front and may have a sea view at the top floor it is also in need of repair work and looks very run down).. Ravenna - capital of Italy

Advantages: compact, pretty mosiacs
Disadvantages: not overly exciting

...Ravenna was, indeed, for a brief time the capital of Italy, but now it is most famous for the roman mosiacs which adorn here. She is a beautiful city, close to the coast, indeed, a good day trip from escapees from the Romagnola Riviera (Rimini being the most famous resort) A very compact city, it is easy to visit most of the more important attractions (these attractions being, primarily, the Roman mosiacs and the Cathedral and surrounding churches), in a day and still have time for a pleasant lunch, perhaps partaking of the speciality of Romagna, piadine. The mosaics remain what the city is most famous for, and they are housed a little way out of the city itself.
