The Real Rio de Janeiro
Advantages: Beaches, gorgeous tropical islands, unbelievably great value.
Disadvantages: Having to keep your wits about you, but no real problem.
...They call the city of Rio de Janeiro "Cidade Maravilhosa" (The marvellous city), I have to say that visiting Rio was an eye opening and awe inspiring experience. This review is a selection of the best parts, with a few pointers on what not to do there.

Rio de Janeiro: A city of contrasts where partying is an artform!
Advantages: Vibrant. Diverse. Beautiful. World famous landmarks. Gorgeous weather.
Disadvantages: Some safety issues
...clustered together in the same neighbourhoods so, for example, you have the exclusive Sheraton hotel (one of the most expensive hotels in Rio) situated within 50 feet of one a prominent favela (slum).
Although Rio remains a vibrant and electric city, many areas are looking a little tired and I imagine that the oppulence and elegance isn't what it once was. For example, around the Copacabana beach front...
