Ripley's Game or Malkovich's finest hour?

Advantages: John Malkovich and Ray Winstone's scenes together.
Disadvantages: Extras on dvd are abit sparse.

...This film is about Tom Ripley, a character made famous by Patricia Highsmith's series of books. The lead role is played by John Malkovich, with the cast including Ray Winstone, Doughray Scott and Lena Headey to name but a few. This follows on from The Talented Mr Ripley which was an earlier film featuring Matt Damon and Gwyneth Paltrow. The film starts with a flashback to Berlin where Tom and an acquaintance called Reeves, (Winstone), are about to pull off a scam involving fake artwork by Renaissance artist Caravaggio. It goes horribly wrong and we witness for the first time in this film what happens to those that cross Ripley. Feeling that what just happened was Reeves' fault, Ripley then double crosses him by walking away with millions of dollars worth of forged artwork. Ripley Court - Rip Off?

...Before going to Dublin for a long weekend with friends we had been warned that it was an expensive place to visit. This was proved to be true when I started looking for somewhere for us to stay. We were looking for somewhere affordable but a bit posher than a hostel. My search led me to the Ripley Court Hotel. The reasons I chose it were: - proximity to O'Connel Street - availability of a triple room - breakfast was included in the price We had three nights (over a long weekend) for 500 Euros which I thought was pretty steep for a two star hotel, considering that all three of us were sharing a room. (Hint: staying from Saturday to Tuesday instead of Friday to Monday would have saved a fortune - week day rates were only 20 Euro per person!) Advantages: Lots of info, lots of variety and shelter from weather
Disadvantages: Prices could be less steap

...Ripley's Believe It Or Not! is situated on Blackpool's front where thousands of tourists come and visit all the time. Ripley's.. is a great place for a family, however some younger children may find some parts frightening. The prices arn't too good, but there acceptable. When me and my dad visited recently, I think it cost us just over £10, and I'm 16 so I'm not sure if they classed me as a child or an adult, but I would assume an adult. The whole place has a huge range of displays from all over the world, each with a lot of information concerning it which means you can read up on things that catch your eye - pretty much all of it! For example, one of the first displays in the place is a range of "freak animals" such as a sheep with 6 legs, a cow with 2 heads, things like this. Untalented Mr Ripley

Advantages: Italy and the acting
Disadvantages: The pace and confusing plot

...The talented Mr.Ripley is, to put it plainly, odd. Its reviews at the time were generally positive, but, personally, I remained unconvinced. Matt Damon skillfully plays the seemingly innocent and guileless Tom, who, disturbingly, turns out to be an obsessive murderer, appearing almost imbalanced in his need for love and security, which, when unfulfilled, drives him to violence. Then begins a trail of lies, deception and corruption, in which it is difficult for the audience to become fully involved due to its intricacy. Homosexuality is strongly hinted at throughout the film, but it ends without any kind of resolution or firm conclusion. I was left feeling strangely unsatisfied and saddened since the protagonist seemed to have brought so much misery upon himself through insecurity. Neither myself nor my companion enjoyed the film...

Not so talented Mr Ripley

Advantages: Atmospheric film
Disadvantages: poor acting and direction

...A film of a Patricia Highsmith book starring John Malkovich, Ray Winston and Dougray Scott and directed by Liliana Calvani where the amoral Mr Ripley decides to get a good family man (but a poor one who is dying) to commit a murder for him because he disparaged him at a party. Malkovich, who plays Mr Ripley, as ever puts in a sterling performance, he is by turns seductive, ingratiating himself with the Scott?s family, and menacing but he can?t overcome the script and the poor direction. The love affair felt contrived however, merely a tool for the occasional gratuitous if tasteful sex scene. Winston plays a thuggish, but incompetent, ex-associate of Ripley?s who decides to kill a mafia boss and blame it on another crime lord for business reasons. ...This film stars: Matt Damon Gwyneth Paltrow Jude Law Cate Blanchett I failed to see what was so great about The Talented Mr. Ripley. The acting was acceptable with the only stand-out performance turned in by Jude Law and the whole plot line quite unbelievable. Everything just seemed to fit together a little bit too well - the inept Italian police, Dickie's background, and the general instinct of men to stick together. If it hadn't happened already, the movie completely falls apart while nearing the end. A brilliant book - a different film - Mr Ripley

Advantages: well acted, quite tense in parts, and mildly interesting
Disadvantages: the film has a different view of the book from me

...I recently read Patricia Highsmith’s the talented Mr. Ripley, which I really enjoyed. The story is about a man – Tom Ripley, who is sent, by a certain Mr. Geanleaf, to Mongibello, to try and persuade his son his son to come home, as he is currently reluctant to. It’s a gripping novel, which starts off a bit slow, but speeds up after a shockingly swift event, which changes plot flying all over the place. From this point, the story becomes tense, and with superbly written escape. What makes the book so interesting, as well as just the clever, and adventurous story of it, is the unusual, and arguably evil main character of the book. Advantages: Fun and interesting,

My children drove us crazy everytime we drove past to visit just because of the effect. Ripleys believe it or not is very famous for helping you explore the many strange things of this world. My self and family spent approx 4-5 hours here looking through the amazing collections. There is also plenty of hands on things for adults and children to do. The Slightly Talented Mr Ripley

...This film kind of reminded me of the book The Great Gatsby. It centres around rich, beautiful and idle people who seize on anything new or different to enliven their jaded lives. Ripley, played by Matt Damon, is sent to persuade Jude Law?s character to return to America from Italy. Ripley gets caught up in the glamour of Jude Law?s and Gywneth Paltrow?s (who plays Law?s girlfriend) lives. He uses a false identity of someone who was at Princeton at the same time as Law to become close to them. Everything proceeds swimmingly and Ripley starts to love this type of life but then Law becomes bored with his new friend and casually dismisses him.
