Reviews of rise & shine
My poem what I wrote
Review of Poetry by
Nozilla
Advantages: Express yourself
Disadvantages: But also expose yourself
...It's called Star
Star, you're shining for me tonight.
This is my night,
Let me into it.
Let me be silvery and shining
Like you.
Star, this is my time.
I am of an age where everything
Falls into place
And I find my space in the skies
Like you.
Star, you are my heart
Rising full in the midnight sky.
It burns steady with love for the universe,
And everything in it
Like you.
Star, you are my knight
You remain when golden fireworks splutter and die
Tomorrow, next week, next year, you will be here,
And I'll be shining
Like you.
I don't write poetry any more, but this is the only one I've ever written that I was the least bit proud of. I wrote it when I was sweet 16...a long time ago, and inspired by watching a production of Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare. It's full of youthful innocence and hope which seems rather distant now...

The departing Candle
Review of Poetry by
thuha
Advantages: The reality of abuse in relationships
Disadvantages: Painful
...why is it that people in abusive relationships (both physical and psychological) find it so hard to turn their back and leave?? I try to explain it in the following poem...
The Departing Candle
Like a candle I live
Oblivious to reality.
I anticipate the flame with passion,
I anticipate its arrival,
I anticipate its touch,
I anticipate its kiss.
Oblivious to reality.
I want to shine and lighten those around me,
I want to be of use and not just adornment,
I want to help in the simple way that I can,
Release my fragrance and add love to the air.
I wait patiently.
Oblivious to reality.
The flame arrives,
I give it my soul, my essence and my heart,
We embrace,
The feeling is unimaginable…
I'm alive, shining as I should,
What a beauty!
But happiness is not given too long to reside
Reality hurriedly rises to the horizon,
The flame, oh my...

Rising Force
Review of Arrows by
andycharger
Advantages: One for the future
Disadvantages: No results yet
...Are arrows the suprise of the season? It can only be a matter of time until they start scoring regularly. If De la Rosa had some more experience and the engine had just held on the other week in Austria they were looking good for a high points finish. I think that the pieces are falling into place now for a great team if the drivers can get a good pair of drivers. Verstappen will surely be out of a job at the end of the season. He has driven for Benetton and Stewart and has been crap at both. If they could get Button in for next season, they would be ace. He is out of a drive when Montoya comes over. I will laugh if Montoya ends up like Zanardi and bums out and Button shines!!!...

The Bright Lights of Delfino
Review of Super Mario Sunshine (GameCube) by
Fuzzmaster2002
Advantages: Bright, light, and .. Mariooo!
Disadvantages: Can be difficult, and also quite short.
...from, including the high-rising Noki Bay, the theme park level Pinna Park and the sandy Gelato Beach. Each is designed and set out wonderfully and although the game has fewer levels than SM64 the game manages to keep the default 120 Shines. There are also Blue Coins to collect. Collect 10 and exchange them for a Shine in Delfino Plaza. Simple idea, executed amazingly.
Intertwined throughout the levels are Shine's which must be reached by completing very tough platform levels, with some very jazzed up music playing in the background, to immerse the nostalgic and annoy the...well...people who don't get it. But in all, the platform levels are hard as nails, and the red coin challenges are even harder, making for frustrating, nail biting but overall rewarding gameplay.
The graphics are in no way detailed, but extremely bright and colourful...

Not quite rising and shining yet
Review of RI:SE by
Solex
Advantages: Gives me up to date info on the news in the morning
Disadvantages: Not very well organised nor are the presenters
...house than actually watching it!
But what of its replacement. Well after plaguing our screens with some mid-90’s American trash for a short while, we woke up to RI:SE, an interactive news programme aimed at being more fresh and funky than Breakfast on BBC1. With lots of techno gadgets, and six promising presenters, RI:SE was set to shine (spot the pun!)
Of course, I tuned into the show and I’ll now tell you what I thought of it.
Having ditched the Big Breakfast format, RI:SE is quite innovative in it’s approach to news, gossip and presenter chemistry – all those things we all secretly like watching.
As soon as you turn the show on, the first thing you’ll notice is the yellow ticker rolling along the bottom of your screen. This ticker rolls on and on at a steady speed, giving the latest information on what...

Extinction level event
Review of E.L.E - Busta Rhymes by
joey_rza
Advantages: Very distinctive rapping style
Disadvantages: A few filler tracks
...Busta Rhymes's rapping abilities shine through the whole of the album, and this 3rd album from Busta continues the theme of millenial destruction that appears from 'the coming', 'when disaster strikes' to latest offereing 'extinction level event: the final world front'.
Starts off with a dramatic introduction, mixing a serious message with Busta Rhyme's distinctive humour.
The album opens well with 'everybody rise', an energetic old skool piano based groove.
There is a mixture of different sounds, from symphonic textures such as the opener, to more minimal urban funk like the swizz beatz produced 'tear da roof off'. The album is daring to mix with commercial R'n'B sounds, on his steamy duet with Janet Jackson 'What's it gonna be' while going far to the other side, with his rendition of Black Sabbath's 'Iron Man' ('This means war...

The Rose That Grew From Concrete
Review of Still I Rise (Clean) - 2Pac & The Outlawz by
SoDef
Advantages: Great E.D.I production and lyrical brilliance of 2Pac
Disadvantages: Other Outlawz don't shine.
...as a feature. His dark, deep G Funk Death Row vocals are well appreciated by the beats and further more the harmony that he forms with the rappers is exceptional. There are also beats that are up-tempo and jazzy such as Hell 4 A Hustler in which the flopping of disc and jazzy instrumentals make for an excellent song.
The Outlaw Immortalz, first and for most were supposed to be a rap group, but in a song entitled Hell 4 A Hustler in which several of the Outlawz sing the hook, “Help me change my ways/Show a little mercy on judgement day”, I was surprised to see that the Outlawz were also good singers and despite their unusual singing vocals the harmony that they as a group create behind Pac’s fast and automatic lyrical execution is delightful. In addition E.D.I’s production really shines through on the single.
The subject matter for Still I Rise...

Sheer Shower Heaven
Review of Imperial Leather Foamburst Gel Delight by
Loolabell
Advantages: Squeaky clean and lots of fun
Disadvantages: You end up looking like a snowman
...This has to be the world's greatest invention for a shower (except Mr. Muscle shower and shine)!!!
Easy to use - One small squirt into hand, spread over body and watch the gel transform into luxurious lather (or foam erupting everywhere if you use too much!)
The various smells give rise to totally different experiences, from relaxing to pure stimulation. Varieties include:
“Vitality” - apparently bursting with vitamins for healthy skin
“Vitality C” – as above but with vitamin C
“Perfect Balance” - pH balanced for sensitive skin types
“Invigorate” - full of complexly named ingredients which give rise to refreshed, tingling skin
“Aqua” - to actively moisturise your body all day long and smells nice !
“Moisture Delight” - My personal favourite - leaves skin...

Give me this on any day
Review of Any Given Sunday (Special Director's Cut) (Wide Screen) by
GazzaR
Advantages: Breath-taking photography, kicking soundtrack and brilliant plot twist
Disadvantages: Possibly too technical for some
..."Any Given Sunday" is Oliver Stone's dipiction of the hard-hitting world of american football starring Al Pacino, Cameron Diaz, James Woods, Jamie Foxx and Dennis Quaid, just to name a few of the all-star cast. The film follows the fortunes of the Miami Sharks through the last few months of a very tough season. After losing their star quarter-back Jack "cap" Rooney (Quaid) and also second choice quarter-back in the same game, coach Tony D'Amato entrusts the success of the team in rookie Willy Beamen (Foxx). After a less than perfect start, Beamen begins to shine, and is soon catapulted into mega-stardom being hailed as the best quarter-back in the game.
Despite this, the Sharks still sturggle to reach the all important big money play-offs, and with club director Christina Pagniacci (Diaz) breathing down D'Amato's neck for results...

Worth every minute
Review of Gone With The Wind DVD by
Rowan
Advantages: Truly epic with a breathtaking cast.
Disadvantages: Not everyone's cup of tea.
...It's amazing how fresh this movie still is when other 'epic' Hollywood productions of its era have long since faded. There is no doubt, however, that this one still shines, and oh boy how it shines.
At four hours it is certainly long, but every minute of those four hours is packed with good things. For a start there is Vivien Leigh as the feisty heroine you just love to hate and Clarke Gable as Rhett Butler, who loves to hate her just as much as we do. Both of them are magnetic and so beautiful it hurts. The supporting cast are also magnificent and you can see why they picked up so many Oscars.
And if that's not enough for you there's always the famous sets. I believe, though I could be wrong, that this was the first film to be shot in glorious technicolour, and thank goodness it was. Wether during the lavish ballroom scenes...
