Dr Oetker's Ristorante Pizzas

...Dr Oetker's is a German family firm, founded in 1891 originally producing baking powder. They began selling frozen pizzas in Germany in 1970 and brought the Ristorante range to the UK in 2002. Varieties available: • Mozzarella • Speciale (Ham and Salami) • Pollo (chicken) • Hawaii (Ham and pineapple) • Funghi (mushroom) • Quatro Formaggi (four cheese) • Prosciutto (prociutto ham) Usually I eat Pizzas in restaurants or occasionally from a take away place such as Dominos. I am not really a fan of shop bought pizzas finding the base sometimes has the taste and texture of soggy cardboard, and the toppings a bit stingy and never getting to the edge. A while back I tried Dr Oetker's Bistro range which were small lunchtime sized pizza baguettes, so upon my last visit to Sainsburys I purchased...

Dr Oetker's Ristorante Pizza

Advantages: Very tasty
Disadvantages: High in calories and fat

...This has to be one of my favourite frozen pizza's. The pizzas are made by Dr Oetker and are a German company. There are many different flavours of the pizza mozzerela, ham and pineapple and many other flavours. In my opinion the mozzerela has to be the nicest one. The packaging is a simple cardboard box with a pizza on the front and Dr Oetkar's Ristorante Pizza is written on the front. The ingreidents and cooking instructions are written on the back in english and many other different languages. The pizza costs about £2 for one but they usually go on offer and you can get them for a £1. The pizzas have quite a thin base and are thickly topped with cheese. They also contain garlic which makes them lovely. They take about fifteen minutes to cook in a gas or eletric oven. The base is crispy and the cheese goes golden brown when cooked...

As far as I am concerned what I look for is a good atmosphere, a good menu selection, good value for money, friendly and helpful staff, but mainly it needs to be a restaurant that I want to visit again, and again. This is certainly the case with Verdes Ristorante and Pizzeria which has been a popular family run restaurant in Lancaster for many years. Very tasty pizza - you can forget it was frozen

Advantages: Tasty, thin crispy crust, moist inside, good quality
Disadvantages: Quite expensive if not in promotion

...I always told myself that writing food review is a bit pointless, because everyone's taste is different and there are lots of reviews, but I need to make an exception now. I am not a fan of fast food or frozen food, but having come back from holidays, I felt too tired (or lazy) to cook anything myself. A short trip to the supermarket and I saw Dr. Oetker Ristorante pizzas in promotion (2 for £3). I know Dr. Oetker brand from their baking products - it is high quality and usually expensive, but this time it looked like an occasion I couldn't miss. The choice was quite good Mozzarella, Pepperoni, Meat Feast, Funghi (mushroom), Pollo (chicken) and the packaging looked encouraging. I brought home one Funghi and one Pollo pizza. The Good Pizza Doctor

Advantages: great varieties, easy and quick to cook
Disadvantages: I end up eaing a wole one!

...I really enjoy cooking, but having the most hectic life on the planet (actually who doesn't nowadays) I always like to keep some easy meals in the freezer. It was with this I mind when I discovered Dr Oetkers Ristorante frozen pizzas one day in Tesco's. I can't stand deep crust pizzas. I find them far too stodgy and filling. So these looked good. The packing doesn't state that they are thin crust, but the picture on the box makes the base look really thin and crispy, with a nice amount of topping. The pizzas come in a cardboard box, approximately 9 inches square, containing a pizza weighing 330 grams. There is a very nice picture of the pizza on the front with the Dr Oetkers logo placed on the top left hand corner. There are several types of toppings available: Special - Mushrooms, Ham and Salami Pollo - Chicken...

...I am a real pizza lover. I rarely get to eat it though, because takeaway ones are ridiculously expensive and frozen ones are ? well, they?re not like pizza at all, are they? And I?m damned if I?m going to fanny about with flour and semolina to make one myself and wait for the dough to rise after a hard day at work. Anyone for German pizza

Advantages: Crispy, tastes great
Disadvantages: Availability, no meat

...and ingredients in nine languages on the reverse side of the box, which is white and square, with (would you believe it) a really appetising picture on the front of the pizza. The red Dr. Oetker logo is at the top left, just to check you have the right pizza. Ristorante Pizza Mozzarella, it says on the front. So now you know how to identify a box of this pizza, what are my conclusions? This pizza tastes great. Fact. Due to the thin base, there are no crusts as such, and you can eat the whole thing – great value. On the financial side of things, it is obviously better value when these are on offer, but if I want a delicious crispy pizza, I wouldn’t mind paying £1.98 for one – much better value than delivery. This filled me up reasonably well, but not completely and may be better suited to a starter to share or as an accompaniment...

Frozen Pizzas That Can Challenge Takeaway Pizzas

...in the oven, they're delicious! I do only have these occasionally as they contain a lot of fat and calories (between 700 and 800 calories), but they are worth it as they're so yummy! The packaging for these pizzas is nothing special really, just a cardboard box with a picture of a pizza on it. The packaging also made me think the pizza was italian for some reason, especially because the name is Ristorante! It is in fact a German company that makes them. However it's what's in the packaging that counts!! They take just under 15 mins to cook in a fan assisted oven at around 200 degrees. The Mozzarella Pizzas have a really thin base and no crusts with lovely tomato sauce, a bit of garlic and basil round the edges, small slices of tomato and plenty of cheese.
