...INTRODUCTION
The Riu Palace in Madeira sits like a white-washed fairytale castle with terracotta turrets, corner towers and grand archways looking out over the sapphire-blue sea. The grounds house brightly coloured flowers and palm trees making you believe you are on a Caribbean island far away.
The Riu Palace is located right on the seafront at Canico de Baixo, only 10 minutes drive from Funchal Airport and 20 minutes drive to the city of Funchal. On arrival at the airport everything ran smoothly and quickly apart from me not recognising my own suitcase!!! We were driven to the hotel in a small mini bus with 5 other people and half an hour later we were sunbathing by the pool. Now that's what I call service.

Advantages: beach, food, people Disadvantages: none
...I stayed at the Riu Tropical Bay in April 2008 for two weeks with my boyfriend.
I absolutely adored the hotel and can hardly fault it at all. It had everything I would want from a holiday; gorgeous weather, wide sandy beaches, delicious food, yummy cocktails and much more!
The staff and entertainment were exceptional. The staff were unbelievably energetic and lively, despite the ridiculously long hours that they worked. They would always try and get you to join in with the shows and dancing afterwards, but understood if you didn't want to. They did the vast majority of the evening entertainment, and you could sometimes find them practicing during the days to perfect that evenings show. It was probably some of the best entertainment I've ever seen at a hotel and I have been staying at 4 or 5 star all inclusive hotels at least twice...
Advantages: Friendly staff, clean hotel, good choice of food and fantastic weather Disadvantages: Locals take over the place at the weekend
...Excellent hotel and excellent holiday. I'm the sort of person who enjoys doing very little on holiday and so an all inclusive holiday at the Riu Bachata was perfect. The place was very clean, lots of choices of food, and plenty sports and entertainment facilities (if you're the energetic sort!)
The staff are very friendly, the rooms are spacious, clean and come with optics containing vodka, rum, gin, and whisky, and a drinks fridge for mixers. All around the complex is drinks dispensers and bars ready to top up your pint pot or wine glass. The hotel is part of a chain of 3 on the same site, and you can freely walk into the other hotels for a change of scenery or different venue for evening meal.
The only downside is at the weekend, the locals are allowed into the complex and completely takeover the place, and if you...
Advantages: Fantastic food, excellent location, great pool, gem of a hotel Disadvantages: Not recommended for young travellers wanting nightlife
...We visited Riu Palace Tres Islas in Fuerteventura last August for a weeks break. The previous year we also went to Fuerteventura but stayed at a hotel called Bahia Real Atlatis Palace further into Corralejo's town.
The resort is located 3 km from Corralejo, 35 km from airport and is situated in the middle of 10 sq m of sand dunes, with the beach on your doorstep.
On our previous holiday in Fuerteventura, each day we walked to the Blue Flag beach which is where Hotel Riu Palace Tres Islas sits on and we decided that year that the following year we would stay at that hotel.
We booked flights and the hotel ourselves and got a taxi from the airport to the hotel. The cost will be between 30 - 40 Euros for the journey each way. We could have got a bus as the bus stop was nearby.
The taxi ride to the hotel can best be described as...
Advantages: Great hotel, service and location Disadvantages: Some people can be quite loud
...Paradise in Mexico! The Riu Cancun is an amazing hotel, the location is great, the service is great & the people/staff are great.
------------
Location
------------
The Riu Cancun is in Cancun, Mexico. It is situated about 20 minutes from Cancun Airport. This is great as transfers are easy and not too long, especially after a 10 and a half hour flight. The airport is a reasonable size and very modern. The Riu Cancun is located in the heart of the resort of Cancun in the 'hotel zone', but not too close that all you can hear is constant music/noise/drunks from the hotel. The main club/bar strip is only a 5 minute walk from the front door of the Riu.

The Resort

Cancun is known for its party atmosphere, spring break and that general 18-30's atmosphere. If this is what you think, you are...

Review of Riu Cancun, Cancun
Advantages: beautifully kept hotel, friendly and helpful staff Disadvantages: entertainment a bit poor, some facilities not working
...visiting her next year, and we decided to go for Tunisia over Morocco because we found the most GORGEOUS looking hotel ever in Tunisia! We immediately booked, and as some of you might know, we came back from said holiday last Wednesday!
About the Hotel & Location
******************************************
The Riu Palace Oceana in Hammamet, Tunisia is part of a chain of hotels and resorts. The Oceana is a 5 * resort (as is most of their hotels I believe) providing absoloute luxury. It is situated in Hammamet which is about 1 ½ hours from the nearest airport, Monastir.
Location wise - it is not in the centre of Hammamet, rather it is set within a cul de sac of other hotels set apart between the old Hammamet Town and Hammamet Yasmine (the newer part). Rather than being a hinderance, this for us was a bit of luck really, as...
Advantages: Beach, food, most staff Disadvantages: Hassles, poor service at times
...After losing almost a day of our time at the RIU Tropical Bay, due to delays we were somewhat relieved to finally arrive. We had chosen this hotel as we stayed at another RIU property in the Dominican Republic last year, and thought it'd be up to the same standard we expected.
The hotel itself is situated on the West coast of Jamaica, on the Northern end of Negril, Bloody Bay. It's 90 minutes by road from Montego Bay, or just 15 by plane. Negril is known to be one of the most relaxed resorts of the island, with fantastic beaches, beautiful clear warm waters, and hotels to suit all budgets. If you want to get out and explore the area, a cheap short taxi or bus ride will get you there in minutes. I''ve already written a bit about Negril in another review.
The RIU Tropical Bay is a 400+ room 4.5 / 5 star a all-inclusive hotel, meaning...
Advantages: All inclusive, great staff, great food, good atmosphere Disadvantages: Entertainment can become repetitive
...We stayed at the Riu Merengue in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic in January 2004. This is classed as a five star all inclusive, and is located on the North coast of the island. Distance from the airport is only about 30 minutes, so it's not long before you are settling in after the gruelling flight.
Check in was quick, there weren't too many other arrivals at the same time thankfully. We were handed a nice welcome drink and wandered off to find our room. It took a while, even though we had some kind of map, but it would have been nice to have been shown to the room, as it was no longer daylight but of course we found it. As soon as we got into the room we poured ourselves a drink from the drinks dispenser. Cuba Libre (rum with coke) of course, since it's the national drink. We checked out the room, it seemed like everything was in...
Advantages: Good location, excellent food and friendly staff Disadvantages: pool closed due to maintenance
.... The main town has a Medina. The Medina dates back to around 1500.The streets are narrow and wind around blind corners with a new surprise at each turn. Carpets, trinkets, pottery and spices now mingle with the holiday tat shops.

Advantages: luxury on tap Disadvantages: a remote location
...The Riu Palace Oceana is a 5 * oasis situated in the tourist area of Tunisia between Hammamet and Hammamet Yasmine.
The first consideration to take into account if you think you might book this hotel is that the journey from Monistir Airport takes approx. 1 1/2 hours in a taxi. This is perfectly okay if you are able to enjoy the sights and sounds of Tunisia but may be a bit daunting if you have children or have difficult flight times.
As you walk into this hotel you enter a huge circular atrium which is the spectacular focal point of the hotel. From the Reception which is located here you will be taken to your room (or mini suite as it is termed) which will be located on the ground or three floors above. In this area there are two lifts, and plenty of ramps for less mobile vistors. There are staff who will take your belongings to...
