Road Angel Navigator 6000 with Blackspot

Advantages: Speed camera warnings, accident blackspot warning, gets you there
Disadvantages: annoying audible in average speed camera area

...roads in town simply don't exist on the map but in all honesty it's because they probably barely have had the road tarmac'd yet and if they have it's probably not set. as for main roads and i would say 95% of the roads in the highlands they are there and accurate. The biggest problem i have with this machine is the ease of plotting an address or road you wish to go to. It has the option to put in a postal code but unlike the majority of sat nav's available it does not any post codes of roads in towns and cities for example say IV1 1DE which if i remember correctly is Castle street in inverness, if you enter this it will go as far as IV1 1 and then give you an area list of inverness and then you have to type in the road name from there, lets just hope you know exactly how to spell it. Road Angel Compact - REVIEW - A must have

...The road angel compact is one of the leading brands of speed camera detectors. Plugged into a cigarette lighter, the unit sits in a cradle (attached to windscreen by suction pads). The Road Angel Compact detects: Gatso TruVelo SPECS Watchman Speedcurb DS2 (and a few others). There is also the option to enable accident blackspots, schools, railway crossings and mobile cameras. The system works by synchronization with the road angel server (online). The user pays a subscription of £3.99 a month to access updates. I find that once a week is sufficient. Road Angel Navigator 6000

Advantages: Tough, simple to use and lots of features.
Disadvantages: Recharging takes a while. Sluggish finding intial GPS on start up.

...A very efficient sat nav. Easy to master. Down sides, slowish to boot up and mine takes what seems to be a long time to charge. Easy to see screen and effecient response from touch screen applications. A nice piece of kit and good value. It has the option of being able to be used solely as a safety camera detector, although you need to ensure the monthly updates are always installed, even then they are not always recorded. It also gives the option of recording any camera locations in the memory to upload to Road Angel later and get added to the database for other users. It has various alerts that can be switched on and off at will. One of the most useful is the warning that you have exceeded a set speed. Useful to keep you to a set speed limit and if you come across any cameras that have not been entered in the database yet!...

TomTom Wireless GPS Receiver 20 channel GPS receiver module

Advantages: good
Disadvantages: none

...I dont have a 20 channel receiver however I do have a 12 channel receiver which came in the box with my Tom Tom Navigator 5 for PDA, whichi I use in my Treo 680 Smart Phone. The whole thing works perfectly and I couldn't ask for more as Sat Nav goes. The GPS receiver looks identical to the 20 channel one shown here and if this one works as well as mine does then you can't go wrong. It has a matt cover which makes it stay put where ever you place it on the dashboard and in use I've found that it picks up a signal very quickly and once linked to the PDA by bluetooth it keeps the signal so long as it can see just a tiny bit of sky. Once linked I take the unit off the dash and place it on the floor of the car in between the seats and it keeps the signal through motorway tunnels and even during a traffice halt under a bridge! Rapidly Aging Road Angel

Advantages: GPS camera detector, laser detector. easy to use
Disadvantages: ugly, has to be updated which will cost money, no speed limit notice

...I bought my Road Angel about 12 months ago and was lucky enough to get an 18 month license for updates free with it. This camera detector doesn't sense the camera or its radar or infra red signal but responds to a satellite signal warning you that a camera is coming up. It has given a few false alarms but usually these are mobile sites so you can't be sure anyway. The unit comes with a mounting bracket and suckers, a USB cable, charging cable for the car, and a magnetic plate which allows it to attach to a place on the dashboard. I found the unit looked functional but not attractive. I think other units like the Snooper look far better. In driving it works fine. No problems. It picks up the signal and warns you that there is an upcoming camera providing you with plenty of notice to make sure you are driving at a legal speed...

...I bought this product after a long spell of being caught by a variety of gatso and laser traps. The final straw was a gatso on the M62 whilst travelling through roadworks - lots of yellow signs (and dredded boxes) in view, but brain not registering the danger. I later found out the camera that caught me netted West Yorkshire Police £4mil! I went out and bought one a few days after this event, around two years ago. The reason I bought the RoadAngel was that it was the only GPS (Global Positioning System) product on the market that appeared to be comprehensive in that it can detect laser as well as locate fixed cameras.
