Roast potatoes for couch potatoes
Advantages: No peeling involved
Disadvantages: There are better and cheaper frozen potaoes around
...Roast potatoes, the food of the Gods, more important to a Sunday roast than your family members. Is there anybody on the planet that can deny how great they are? Well, there is always a catch to anything so wonderful and with roast potatoes, it is of course the preparation. More importantly, the peeling. Show me someone that suggests that they like peeling spuds and I?ll show you a nutcase with his own collection of potato peelers! This would probably explain the popularity of the humble frozen spud. Created for lazy boys and girls everywhere.
The frozen potatoes that I am reviewing are from Marks and Spencer?s. I bought a pack weighing 300 grams for £1.59 and they are described as "fresh maris piper potatoes, butter basted for extra flavour" One thing to remember about this product is that it is currently part of a special offer...

Probably the best prepared roast potatoes
Advantages: Good quality, tasty
Disadvantages: A bit pricier than some other roast potatoes
...Aunt Bessie's roast potatoes are the ones I always go for if I'm going to buy the roast potatoes from a supermarket. They always seem to cook nicely, remain crisp outside and nice and soft and fluffy inside- which is exactly how a roast potato should be.
They seem to vary in size a bit, but that's just a minor inconvenience. I suppose if you put them all in the oven the tiny ones will cook more quickly, but very rarely are they burned before the larger ones have cooked through. Anyway, it makes it more interesting to have a few smaller extra-crispy ones as well as the larger ones (which are especially well-suited to mopping up gravy).
There are also less black bits and bruises on these than you seem to get with other brands, particularly the supermarket brands which I've found are not always up to scratch.
These are especially...

ONE POTATO, TWO POTATO, THREE POTATO, FOUR !! Recipes that is !
Advantages: Cheap as chips
Disadvantages: Spoilt for choice for how to use them
...the hot stock, place into the oven and cook for 1 hour until potatoes are tender.
------------------------------------------
This is a lovely change from plain mash and serves 8 people, reduce amount for smaller portions, does freeze well.
POTATO, CELIAC AND GARLIC MASH
900g (2lb) potatoes, roughly chopped
450g (1lb) celeriac, roughly chopped
2 fat garlic cloves, peeled
1 tablespoon Olive Oil
Salt & pepper to taste
Put potatoes and celeriac in separate pans of cold, salted water, each with a garlic clove. Cover, bring to boil, then simmer for 12min or until tender - the celeriac may take less time. Drain, and then tip both into a heatproof bowl. Mash with olive oil and season well.
To keep the veg warm until you're ready to serve, cover the bowl with foil and sit it in a roasting tin with enough boiling water to come...

ROAST A ROOSTER
Advantages: very versatile, taste delicious
Disadvantages: none
...Rooster Potatoes
There are many different types of potatoes to choose from, some potato varietys are best suited to roasting and others are for mashing or boiling. In my local Tesco superstore there are many different potato varietys to choose from, there are Desire, Maris Piper, King Edward etc I would usually purchase a bag of King Edward potatoes for chipping and roasting and a bag of Maris Pipers for boiling and mashing. Now I'm all for trying out new products especially if they are cheaply priced or they are on special offer, so when Tesco first started selling Rooster potatoes I had to try them to see if they were any good. I think the first time I bought a bag of Rooster potatoes they only cost £1 because they were on a special introductory offer; now they cost £1.75 per bag, which in my opinion isn't really expensive...

Chips, boiled, creamed. The humble potato is very versatile
Advantages: A very versatile vegetable
Disadvantages: None
...I have to say that the majority of main meals in our house include the humble potato. But when you sit and think about the potato it is not as humble as it makes itself out to be. When we were children no meal was complete without either roast, boiled or mashed potatoes. It was a rare occasion that chips appeared on the menu and my Mum fried her chips in a frying pan in shallow fat, they were rationed and we probably had around ten chips each!
As times have changed so have eating habits and now many people favour pasta or rice rather than the potato. I agree that pasta and rice make a welcome change from potato but give me a nice crispy roastie any time.
I dont know what you think but I always think that the variety of potato that you buy is important , I favour the red skinned potato, Desiree if they are available. A lot...

A Roast Pig In A Bag Of Crisps!
Advantages: Taste Nice, Full Of Flavour
Disadvantages: Plenty Of Fat And Calories
...Another trip to Marks and Spencers and another food review. This time it is the turn of their Honey Roast Ham flavoured Crisps.
I first tried these earlier this year when I picked up a packet to take to a Barbecue I was going to, I was very impressed with their strong authentic taste and so when I spotted them on the shelf a few days ago I decided to give them another try, and to see if they still tasted so good sober.
THE PRODUCT
These Crisps come in a very large foil bag, this is not a multi-pack of smaller individual bags, but instead one huge 150g bag, which is great for parties or to share with a friend or too, but not so good to attempt to eat on your own.
This bag cost me £1.19 which seems quite a lot but if you divide this by the cost of 4 or 5 standard sized bags of any brand you will realise that this is actually...

You say po-tay-toe and I say po-ta-toe.
Advantages: Inexpensive, nutritious and versatile
Disadvantages: Too many deep fried ones are NOT good for you.
..., and then tip both into a heatproof bowl. Mash with olive oil and season well.
To keep the veg warm until you're ready to serve, cover the bowl with foil and sit it in a roasting tin with enough boiling water to come halfway up the side of the tin. Keep the water barely simmering on the hob and the mash will stay warm for 15-20min

the perfect roast potatoe
Advantages: taste lovely
Disadvantages: are probably very fattening and no good for you
...given that a sunday dinner is all i can cook and well i decided to share the wisdom given to me by my father in cooking the perfect roast spud unlesss of course you are on a diet or trying to watch your figure then these probably arent for you at all.
1)obviously peel your spuds and chop into size suitable for eating i usually cut into quarters unless they are small then only half
2)preboil the spuds until they are halfway boiled you know just before they go to mash.i tend to do it for about 20 mins on a medium heat.
3)next i transfer the spuds that have been drained of their water and chuck them in the tray with my meat give them a good dosing of sunflower oil just enough to layer the bottom of the tray as this tends to stop them sticking.
4)place them into the oven on gas mark 5 for at least an hour this will get them...

There is no standard equivalent of Tomato and Basil Chicken but the results of this swift check satisfied me that the customer is not necessarily paying much more for a healthier alternative and sometimes, less.

Walkers Roast Chicken Crisps
Advantages: Good old fashioned Walkers, cheap
Disadvantages: There are better crisps out there
...crunch down on them as one of the main priorities for a crisp is to have crunch. The flavour is there, but you can tell it's heavily manufactured. Fear not though, the Walkers Sensations version are even better...but obviously cost a lot more. For those on a budget, and craving roast chicken flavoured crisps, I'm scratching my brain to think of another type which is so widely available.
