Walkers Roast Chicken Crisps
Advantages: Good old fashioned Walkers, cheap
Disadvantages: There are better crisps out there
...Whilst devouring a ham and cheese toasted sandwich for lunch yesterday, the perfect accompaniment had to be a bag of good old fashioned Walkers Crisps...today's choice, Roast Chicken flavour.
Taken from one of the 6 x 25g packs which cost approximately £1.23 from the likes of Tescos and Asda, the first thing that strikes you at the moment is the paraphernalia which covers the orange package due to Walkers' ongoing competition to save money on trips around the UK.
But that's just a sideshow; you're all obviously wondering what they taste like. Well, of course they do taste like roast chicken - no surprise there thankfully - but although it pains me to say it, there are better crisps of this flavour out there. Ones with a bigger taste and crunch. These have a texture that some harsh critics would describe as cardboard-like when you...

Walkers Roast Chicken
Advantages: Yummy, nice taste, strong
Disadvantages: Quite a few calories, salt
...Walkers crisps have been around now for well over 60 years now. A gentleman called Henry Walker took over a butchers shop in the 1880's but after the second World War he saw production go down and had to look for other ways to make money. He began hand-slicing and frying potatoes and sold them as potato crisps, the first flavour being Cheese and Onion. Now there are so many flavours to choose from the choice is overwhelming but I am going to review the Roast Chicken.
This has probably got to be my favourite of all the different flavours although it's a hard one to call.
Amazingly this flavour really does taste like chicken. The crisps have quite a strong taste and they have a very definite herby flavour as well as what looks like some herbs on the crisps too. They have probably the most flavour out of all the different flavours...

Roast Chicken Flavoured Walkers
Advantages: Addictive, and a bit yummy in sandwiches
Disadvantages: Dont smell great
...I thought I may as well write about the product of the week, since of course I have tried Walkers Roast Chicken flavoured crisps! Who hasn?t? After all Walkers is one of the most popular and well known brands of snacks in the country, and I asked a friend to name 10 different flavours, not only could she do it, but she named Roast Chicken as one of them.
Surely this shows their popularity? Or does it?
I have to start by saying that I have not always been a crisp fan, but on the occasion that I do buy them, I always buy Walkers and I am a fan of most flavours. The Roast Chicken flavour is actually something I just find myself getting a craving for. I don?t always enjoy the whole bag, but they are the sort of flavour which you just fancy once in a while.
The Beginning
Walkers was started by a man called Henry Walker after...

Nobody here but us Walkers Roast Chickens?
Advantages: Pleasant enough taste
Disadvantages: High in fat and salt, and utterly unremarkable
...Forgive the title, please, I don't get out much.
Anyway, it is a long-held truism, perpetuated in such diverse works as Red Dwarf and The Matrix that everything tastes a little bit like chicken. Up to a point, my own experience has upheld this strange claim. Crocodile tastes a little bit like chicken, as do guinea fowl, frogs' legs and even calves' brains (don't ask)...
In fact, the one thing I've eaten in my entire life that tasted in no way like chicken was... you've guessed it. A packet of roast chicken crisps. In fact, I think the tastiest thing I've ever pulled out of a packet of roast chicken crisps was a Limited Edition Star Wars Tazo (I have the full set, make me an offer and we'll talk, er, turkey).
Roast Chicken crisps had an odd reputation when I was at school. I was educated in a part of the country remote enough...

POSH CRISPS (Walkers 'Sensations' Roast Chicken and Thyme)
Advantages: Tasty
Disadvantages: High in Fat and Calories
...The 'Sensations' range of crisps are made by Walkers. Famously launched by the Gary Linekar and Victoria Beckham advert back in 2002 these crisps have gained a reputaion as 'posh' crisps (hence V.Beckham) and this 'poshness' is certainly reflected in the packaging which gives the crisps an 'up market' and attractive appeal. I brought my Roast Chicken and Thyme 'Sensations' packet (160g) from Somerfield for £1.65 on a 'buy one get one free' deal.
~Packaging~
Sensations first appeared in 2002 and at that time they were packaged in white bags now you will find find them in a glossy black bag with their trademark 'artistic' S across the front. The sensations 'S' is decorated with the various ingredients of the bags flavour. On mine there were pieces of sliced chicken, wedges of lemons and a few springs of thyme.

Walkers Roast Chicken Crisps: Who ate all the crisps?
Advantages: Great taste, easy to open packet, non-soggy crisps.
Disadvantages: The smell when you first open them, not good for diets.
...then my Grandmother and Mum proceded to dip their hands into the packet and steal the crisps inside (the nerve (!)). They seemed to enjoy the potato snacks so I took one myself, still able to smell the strong scent, and bit into the orange coloured crisp and chewed. A few seconds passed with me eating and trying to discern what the flavour was and whether I liked it or not, eating several more crisps as I wondered. It was a enjoyable taste once I ate a few but I was still undecided, then last night ended with three empty packets of Walkers Roast Chicken crisps.
The flavour was (as I have said in the above paragraph) a mix of gravy granules and chicken, it tastes quite nice as the chicken flavour compliments the potato crisps rather like gravy on chips. I enjoyed it once I got used to the smell, it's a savoury taste and if you like roast...

You dont have to wait for sunday to get your roast chicken
Advantages: Realistic flavour, good price & taste great
Disadvantages: Can sometimes taste a little salty
...A BIT OF GOOD OLD HISTORY TO BEGIN
Walker?s crisps are well known around the world for the numerous flavours they produce and the new and old concepts they continue to market. Walkers crisps are very much close to my heart because they were invented in Leicester, which is 10 minutes away from me, by a butcher named Henry Walker hence the Walkers crisps. He started out in the late 1880s but by 1945 meat was hard to get hold of so he began cooking and selling sliced potatoes such a simple idea that would take the world by storm! By 1954 flavoured crisps were bought in and the infamous Cheese and Onion flavour was produced. By the 1980?s a whole host of flavours have flooded our shelves ranging from the simple ready salted, cheese and onion, salt and vinegar to the meaty steak and onion, roast chicken, smokey bacon and then the more quirky...

Anolon Roast Pan
Advantages: Very hard wearing, heavy feel, non-stick
Disadvantages: Poor heat distribution
...This entry level roasting pan is certainly high quality. Although it is not a high end product there are a number of similarly priced roasting pans that would fall apart years before this hardy thing would.
Not only is this a good sized pan that will happily take a large chicken or piece of beef or lamb but it will do well for roasting vegetables or other such food. The pan is very hard wearing and you'd struggle to scratch off the non-stick with normal wear and tear. This puts it well above other competitors in my opinion.
Since it is not a high end copper or multi-layer aluminium roasting pan, the heat dispertion is not fantastic in my opinion but this is to be expected with a pan at such a reasonable price.
This is, in my opinion money well spent. A high quality, very durable, entry level roasting pan....

Roast potatoes for couch potatoes
Advantages: No peeling involved
Disadvantages: There are better and cheaper frozen potaoes around
...Roast potatoes, the food of the Gods, more important to a Sunday roast than your family members. Is there anybody on the planet that can deny how great they are? Well, there is always a catch to anything so wonderful and with roast potatoes, it is of course the preparation. More importantly, the peeling. Show me someone that suggests that they like peeling spuds and I?ll show you a nutcase with his own collection of potato peelers! This would probably explain the popularity of the humble frozen spud. Created for lazy boys and girls everywhere.
The frozen potatoes that I am reviewing are from Marks and Spencer?s. I bought a pack weighing 300 grams for £1.59 and they are described as "fresh maris piper potatoes, butter basted for extra flavour" One thing to remember about this product is that it is currently part of a special offer...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I?m not very good at cooking roast beef, and am even worse at slicing it, yet frequently have a craving for a roast beef sandwich. I solve this problem by occasionally buying some pre-packed sliced roast beef as although it?s rarely, if ever as good as the real thing, it?s often an acceptable substitute...
