Coltrane is the man.
Advantages: Some of the all time best jazz saxophone ever.
Disadvantages: Some ommissions.
...The Very Best of John Coltrane
Some folks in commenting on a previous review wanted me to review some 'hard jazz'; well here goes.
This was just one of the 'best of' or 'greatest hits' type albums, of several that have been issues since the great mans death at the tender age of 41. It seems that the saxophone 'greats' die young and tragically; Charlie Parker, Albert Ayler.
Although primarily a tenor player, he also played an awful lot of soprano (as on much of this album) and occasionally alto and clarinet, though I've not heard much of this.
He was an absolute giant amongst jazz saxophonists, and along with Parker, probably (though in different ways) the most influential saxophonist ever. He played with many of the greats too, in fact some of his collaborations with Miles Davies (trumpet) such as Bye Bye Blackbird, have...

Review of Very Best Of John Coltrane, The - John Coltrane

John Coltrane
Advantages: One of the most talented jazz saxophonists ever!
Disadvantages: Towards the end of his life, his work got more "way out"
...John Coltrane is definitely one of the greatest tenor and soprano saxophonists ever, having also written many jazz standards, such as Blue Trane and Impressions.
At first, Coltrane started out as a clarinettist, and horn player, but at school he was influenced by hearing players including Lester Young and Johnny Hodges, causing him to switch to alto sax before switching to tenor sax after doing military service during world war two and playing in the U.S. Navy Band. Throughout his life, Coltrane was an alcoholic, and a heroin addict (finally dieing from liver cancer in 1967), but he managed to overcome this, and it was during overcoming his heroin addiction that he wrote perhaps his most important and prolific work - A Love Supreme - a four part work in which Coltrane tried to express his love for and worship of God, with Coltrane...

FREE DVDs
Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review
...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them.
∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊
Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

Robbie Williams Live At Knebworth "Without Me" : (
Advantages: An Excellent Live Album!
Disadvantages: None!
...Hell is gone and heaven's here,
There's nothing left for you to fear
Shake your arse come over here
Now scream!
I'm a burning effigy
Of everything I used to be
You're my rock of empathy, my dear
"So come on let me entertain you"
"Let me entertain you"!
Reasons For Purchasing:
Well "Let me entertain you" with my review! I am a huge fan of the Pop Star Robbie Williams and I have every single album he has ever released in my huge CD collection. I think most people are aware who this great star is, but I will include a little bit of information about him, for those who do not in the next paragraph.
Robbie Williams was born on the 13th February 1974, in England, in a little town called Stoke-on-Trent. His pop career started when he was just sixteen years old, when he was chosen to be included in a UK boy...

Escaping Into Robbie's Membrane
Advantages: Some good lyrics and songs, with "Come Undone" being my fav song
Disadvantages: Didn't convince me that he deserves all the praise he has gotten

INTRODUCTION
******************************************************************
I?ll be honest with all of you: I?ve heard very little of Robbie Williams? music; I?m American, and I had first heard of him while I was in England. Ironically, I arrived in Newquay soon after ?Escapology? (his fifth album) was released and selling like hotcakes across the country. One day I was in a pub with some friends who were in the Royal Air Force and one of them made a joke about Williams which made me ask the question: ?Is he...

Robbie & Friends
Advantages: It's Robbie (the good one)
Disadvantages: None
...his signature keyboard sound, which adds sonic texture this is counter pointed by Robbie's solo guitar playing along with Rick Danko's from Robbie's old group The Band back ground singing.
The next track in the running order was co-written by the great pianist Bruce Hornsby, this song is one of the standout tracks of the album with the organ playing of Art Neville and the horn arrangement Wardell Quezergue making it stand out from the previous songs.
"Soap Box Preacher" should make followers of Neil Young stand up and take notice because if you listen very carefully you will hear him singing background vocals on the track.
"Day of Reckoning (Burnin' for You) " is another of the tracks on this album that benefits from the Paul Moore of the Blue Nile fame playing keyboards, along with the horn arrangement of Mark Isham, Mr Isham is...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54
Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.
...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied.
On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

A poor masquerade of a Robbie Williams album
Advantages: Erm.............things can only get better!!!
Disadvantages: Many of the tracks are poor
...As I start this review I have to make it clear that I am a Robbie Williams fan. My better half and I saw him live in Paris last year and it was, undoubtedly, the finest 2 hours of live entertainment and showmanship that I have ever seen.
He is, without question, the finest performer and "popstar" that the UK has produced in the last twenty years, building a career on musicality, pop songs and performance, which is why "Rudebox" seems to have been a genuinely bad idea!! It's a departure into electro-pop, hip-hop and rap that is as unwelcome as it is unconvincing, and I worry that Robbie is starting to sink with his demons again! It is backed up with unusual images of Robbie in tracksuits, staring at us with hip-hop "attitude".
The Background
Robbie Williams' meteoric rise to stardom with Take That, the apparent acrimony behind...

TAKE THAT!! Robbie
Advantages: Successful Artist
Disadvantages: Just Dislike Him
...-in-all he has been nominated for a Grammy and has won the singer/songwriter Brit Award on a number of occasions.
I?ve taken it upon myself to research just how many albums Williams has sold. Including both a member of take that and his solo career athe amount of single/albums/dvds etc exceeds 100million.
I?ve gone through my mums entire Robbie collection and found a few, I?m pretty sure it?s not the lot but I?l briefly explain the albums I?m in possession of, that way you?ll get a feel of what he?s about and the success etc.
?Life Thru A Lens?
Moving on, Williams has had success with many singles/albums. His first ?Life Thru A Lens? felt the wrath of both the ups and downs of music. When the album was first released it failed to make an impact with the public and you would?ve probably found it lying on a sale wrack in most common...

Inside Robbie's pants
Advantages: Classy book, great photos, a few revelations
Disadvantages: Too much about the band and tour
...I received an e-mail from Amazon supposedly from Robbie himself, promising me deep dark revelations about himself in this book. The first page of the book promised me ‘Robbie Williams, inside my tour, my head, my pants’. Instead I found it disappointing.
‘Somebody, Someday’ is not a biography of Robbie Williams, despite the hype and marketing material - it is a diary of a tour. It is a nice looking hard back book, heavy, glossy and with a great cover – sultry Robbie on the front and check chappy Robbie on the back. There are dozens of pages of quality photos inside, both colour and black and white. A few of my favourites are one of Robbie peeing up a fence, lying in bed showing his fluffy chest and tattoos, and rows of lighters at a concert being waved by fans during Angels (reminds me of the Milton...
