Technology that survived the flood?
Advantages: very original concepts
Disadvantages: non
...There has been a flux of books in recent times presenting a new angle on the evolution man, his rise to civilization and the steps that took him there. Some are very off the wall and offer massive re-thinking in our veiw of the past, often relying on extra-terrestrial interference or lost lands such as Atlantis. Others are more reserved in the ideas they present, David Rohl and his new chronologies of ancient Egypt for example, ideas that are able to nessle into what we already accept with a minimum of fuss in the grand scheme of things. What Knight and Lomas offer us here is something close to the later, but a book that takes loose ends from sources as varied as the Book of Enoch, the Dead Sea Scrolls and Kenniwick Man and uses them to lead to a yet undiscovered use of Technology in prehistoric times.
Firstly I must point out that by...

A romantic whodunnit from Nora Roberts
Advantages: An absorbing read
Disadvantages: A little predictable
... ANGELS FALL
NORA ROBERTS
In this book - "Angels Fall" - Nora Roberts mixes mystery and romance.
This book, published in 2006, contains three main subplots in the story -- a murder mystery, Reece's romance with Brody, and Reece's struggle to gain back normality.
Ms Roberts manages to incorporate the three aspects together resulting into and novel.
The story starts with the heroine, cook Reece Gilmore, as her car has broken down in Angel's Fist, Wyoming.
Reece decides decides to stay in the little town for a day - but that day turns into months as she takes a a job as a cook in the local diner, rents the apartment upstairs and settles into town life at Angel's Fist.
It is then, through dreams and flashbacks from Reece, that e learn that she hasbeen the victim of a viscious and brutal crime in...

Robert Post
Advantages: good tunes and really catchy
Disadvantages: only one really outstanding track
...This is a self-titled album by singer songwriter Robert Post. He comes from a small village in Norway called Langevaag and he got together with two friends, Tor and Alf, and set about to record an album. Tor does the drums and Alf plays bass for Post. Mike Hedges is the producer of the album, who has produced work for many different artists such as the Manic Street Preachers or Travis. This album looks like it could be set to be big in due time.
Again, I first heard some of his music through a friend, when he downloaded one of the songs though iTunes. Once I?d heard this song, I wanted to hear more as it was so upbeat and yet seemed to be different to general pop music that you would hear on the radio. I listened to the album with enthusiasm waiting for more wonderfully crafted songs that really make you want to sing along. I...

Robert Fripp Exposed
Advantages: Brilliantly creative, inventive, innovative... etc. album played by a stunning list of musicians
Disadvantages: some might find it pretentious
...The chances are that you?ve heard Robert Fripp?s guitar even if you?ve never heard the name. Ever wondered whose amazing guitar that is on Bowie?s Heroes? What about Scary Monsters? He?s played with and produced Peter Gabriel, the Talking Heads, Brian Eno, David Sylvian, The Future Sound of London, Blondie Andy Summers (of the Police), The Orb; also The California Guitar Trio, Trey Gunn, Bill Rieflin (for those who know who they are) and is married to Toyah Wilcox of all people, but otherwise better known as the only remaining founder member and force behind King Crimson.
Fripp has made a vast array of solo albums, mostly his ambient soundscapes that are themselves beautiful. He?s had other bands too beyond Crimson: The League of Gentleman (back in 1980), Robert Fripp?s String Quintet (1994); but there is only one available solo...

Robert Heinlein, First and Best
Advantages: A very entertaining thoughtful reat
Disadvantages: Not to every ones liking
...Starship Troopers by Robert A Heinlein. Published in 1959.
Very brief synopsis:-
With this book you follow the life of one Juan (Johnny) Rico from his enlistment in the Federal Service, Mobile Infantry, up to his command of a platoon of these troops in an Interstellar war. Mankind is facing a Bug like alien species, something like a giant ant crossed with a spider.
Johnny Rico comes from a background of wealth and privilege and through peer pressure and naivety he signs up for service. Only a person who has completed a minimum two year service has the Right to vote. Not everybody wants to serve and thus vote.
A good part of the book is taking up with his time at boot camp and the training he undergoes. Running in the background that we are not aware of is the situation that is getting steadily worse, going from normal peace...

The first of a great series (The Recruit by Robert Muchamore)
Advantages: Great story, characters, exciting to read
Disadvantages: None
...The Recruit written by Robert Muchamore is the first book of the CHERUB series and is a brilliant book and has made me want to read the rest of the series which I hope are as good as this book.
This book is and the series are about the secret organisation CHERUB. This organisation recruits young people to catch criminals. They use children to spy on criminals as they are not expected to be up to something and spying on them. The book is similar to other spy books like Alex Rider and you will like this book if you have read that and enjoyed it.
James is fed up with school and he is part of a bad family and we learn about his younger sister Lauren. Their mother dies and Lauren goes to live with her cruel father while James is sent to an orphanage and recruited into CHERUB. James is then sent on basic training which lasts for 100...

Robert Swindells: Stone Cold
Advantages: Giving a better understanding of homeless people and their situations
Disadvantages: Dual-Narrative-often confusing, lack of direction.
...The book, Stone Cold, written by Robert Swindells, evolves around a teenage boy nicknamed Link, who is having an extremely difficult time dealing with family life, due to his mothers relationship with her rude, arrogant boyfriend Vince. The book follows the 16 year old throughout his journey, showing both the advantages and disadvantages of freedom.
It is clear from the start of the book that Link feels uncomfortable in his home. He does not appear to have a close bond with his mother, although, it seemed that Link had a good relationship with his sister, Karen. Her boyfriend, on the other hand, stood in the way of their relationship and they therefore grew apart.
The short introduction at the beginning of the book gives a good impression as to what his life is like. One quote from the first page which is extremely touching is as...

The man who invented the 20th Century
Advantages: A new piece of truth
Disadvantages: None
...There is a book telling maybe an incredible for many, nevertheless true story. It is the story of Nikola Tesla. The book is “ The Man Who Invented the 20th Century”, by Robert Lomas (Great Britain engineer and teacher).
Nikola Tesla was born in Serbia, at Smjlian, in a region named Krajna, near Belgrade, in the XIX century. He was a Genius, one of the greatest inventors and scientists in the 19th – 20th century.
Here I am commenting, in good part, this optimum book, but I feel I must add something mine, too, since I have studied about Tesla, in the way you will be able to glimpse in the following…
At the end of the ‘800, when he had already found out many interesting discoveries in the electromagnetism field, he went to America and began to work with the “great” Thomas Edison. During this...

Not the best vision Nora Roberts ever had!
Advantages: An easy read
Disadvantages: Very predictable and nothing happens!
...I was very excited to take a brand new copy of this book home from the library having had my name down for a good few weeks. But it didn't take many pages for me to realise that the book was a little disappointing to say the least.
Vision in White is the first in Nora Roberts' new series, known collectively as The Bride Quartet, set around a wedding planning business which is run by four friends who spent much of their time in childhood playing at weddings. Now, all grown up, one of them is a photographer, one a cook, one a florist and one a brilliant administrator who owns a fabulous house. How convenient!
Synopsis: Mackenzie (Mac) Elliott discovered in childhood that she could capture moments of happiness using a camera, given to her by her absent and uncaring father. She is the product of a broken marriage, both parents having...
